Not sure if it's because my D6 is older (it's really the D4 now) but with slope assist I just change grades using the joystick instead of thumbwheel or buttons. It kind of gives me the best of both worlds and keeps me learning to "feel" the grade while keeping me from porpoising. Basically it's a "safety" from making too big of a mistake. The worst part is if you idle too long it will kick you out of AUTO and if i'm not paying attention when I get back into it my blade will dive and ... yea, you know the rest, lol.

There's nothing wrong with letting slope assist or other tools guide you as you learn to cut grade. The big thing I wanted to emphasize here is to not use technology as a crutch. At the end of the day we still need operators on the job.

I’ve got the slope assist down but on my new D3, I can’t figure how to shut it off and be able to go back to the gps

You have to have the GPS component installed on the machine in addition to the 2D system. Not all dozers have the 3D component installed.

Nice demo. I assume the CASE CO-PILOT works pretty much the same?

I would assume it is a very similar procedure. I'd have to spend 10 minutes messing with it to confirm but the concepts should all translate over to the Co-Pilot system.
