Excellent video. I've had the X4 for a few days and have made most of the mistakes in this video. I'm glad that someone summarized it so nicely and confirmed the right path for me. Thanks.
Great tips. At risk of repeating myself, I would strongly recommend users to carefully test the sharpness settings. The default is 'medium' which personally I think is best, but YMMV. In many situations, the low setting seems to lose detail as well as sharpness, and it seems to throw away the 8k advantage. Also, when reframing, I do suggest making good use of the option to cut from one direction to another rather than panning. Too much panning can be quite unsettling. Reframing without panning can make it look like you had multiple camerapersons with you - impressive!
@@oppenheimer11 The way I do it perrsonally is to use the Studio app to reframe the video and in that app there are "buttons" which control whether the image goes around at a steady speed, or at different speeds to begin and end, or whether it cuts straight from one direction to another with no panning at all. Is that what you were referring to?
Thanks for the tips. I am new to 360 cameras and wante to inquire further about one of your tips. You say, hold the camera about arms height in front of you. Are you saying also to keep it level, (parallel to the ground) or does it matter if it is slightly pointed upwards or downwards?
Your footage actually looks awesome, I've seen some videos where the image looks blurry, do you know anything about this porblem, or is a upload setting some of youtubers are missing ?
Wow thanks almost made the mistake of getting one of these, thought it would be nice to have a 360 camera. With these minor issues with how to hold etc.. I don't want to have to think about all that. So guess I'll get the pocket 3.
I'm looking into getting an action camera in the next month. We have a tropics vacation coming up in which I plan to snorkel and possibly try diving. We also ride sxs's around home. I like the idea of a 360 cam for the ease camera angle management and recording on both sides. Can a 360 cam give you a flat camera image or will it always be obvious you are filming on a 360°? What would you recommend for my needs?
I noticed a much improved design and UI on the 4. I have the 2 and the round screen with swiping all over the place is confusing and results at times in wrong settings.
I've been using the premium lens protector caps. Have you tried them or heard of people constantly getting dust slipping through the covers? It's super annoying but is happening soooo often and they're properly locked on and everything
@jayare3062 could you make a thin silicone ring just to go around the base? It doesn’t seem like a difficult problem to solve and if it’s really thin then I can’t image the camera would pick it up on the footage. Maybe someone can try it
You got some good pointers there in all sir .. thanks .. but one point that you made which goes contrary to the Insta 360 core value is that don't point and later reframe? But Insta360 is all about point and shoot first then later reframe. So meaning don't worry about changing positions, shoot then later do the reframing. So how does that become a flaw? Please explain further.
No and no. Yes. Problem is or the fact is, if you point and shoot and never move the stick and just rely on the key frames, how could you possibly make the image look more interesting than others?
Thumbs Up! These tips are awesome!I'vee been telling people that advicemyselff. But most are very hard headed and start to shout at me with cap letters about this X4 being a 360 camera and how it doesn't matter in which way the camera is facing because you can adjust it in post. But....... then you hear them complain about how it looks way to curved on the edges with the fish eye look, and im like, well..... i tried to tell you how you have to position your X4 so you get the best possible image out of it, but you said you knew what you were doing so..... 😅 🤷♂️
Thanks for the video sometimes I have the line of the pole in my videos I have the lenses on the side. And I run the 368 View. Can sometimes see in the video some kind of a line from my pole. What would be the best way to get rid of dust
You have different stitching options in the studio where you can use A.I as well to solve the stitching. But if dust is the problem... clean it with water 👍
Thanks for the tips, Robin. You forgot one tip - don't forget to press the record button after switching the camera on. Yes - I did (or didn't) do that and stupidly missed capturing something I really wanted while travelling. Of course I'm kidding when I say it's a tip you might have added. Hitting the record button is an obvious requirement.
Am I imagining that there is a setting that causes the camera to begin recording automatically when it is turned on? Maybe I am thinking of another camera...
I have seen, that you dont use the lens guards for filming. Is that something that you would recommend as well for better quality or is is more of a personal preference?
the weight can also be a positiv thing... walking and running: heavier 360cam tends less to "bounce" around, up and down.. i notcie that with my X3 vs. 1inch360... the image of the 1inch360 is more stable/smooth when walking/Running because of more mass of the camera
Hi 👋 maby you can help, I have really bad stitching in my insta 360 x4, I have premium lens protection, all settings checked, but still bad results And also my 3m stick not 100% invisible..
I was hoping there is a hint on how to deal with the noise, artefacts and bad picture quality, especially with less than perfect (bright sunlight) lighting conditions. I have not found a way to deal with the crappy results and am considering returning it. An important aspect I would've add is to change the bitrate to high. If anyone has an idea about how to deal with the quality issues I was mentioning, I'll be grateful!
I'm on the same boat, good thing I bought it from Costco as their return policy is great ( I've had the camera for over a month because I was wait8ng for my bike attachment to arrive and now that I tried it on all possible settings I realized there's no way to make the video look good in low light conditions, what's crazy is that it could be noon and if a cloud blocks the sun a bit the image quality drops like crazy, worst POS purchase I made all year 😢
Thanks. Helpful indeed for this newbie. However, I’m getting not so great resolution even at highest resolution downloading it from camera to my iPhone and for social post. Any recommendations? Thank you.
You got some incredible shots there with both cameras. How much difference in real world use and results are there between the X3 & X4? Is it worth paying 2x the price for an X4 new, over an X3 used but in good condition? I'm thinking there's a bump up in resolution and clarity and max frame rates in some modes, and processor speed, but that's about mostly it, nothing super game changing.
Thanks for the tips, Robin! I’m planning to buy the Insta360 X4, and I’m wondering if using a lens guard would compromise video quality. Is it worth it to buy the original lens guard, or should I leave the lens unprotected?”
Awesome! No i don´t, or i do, but only when i ride my bike. There will always be some compromises when putting plastic/glass in front of a lens, so for basic use i recommend to leave them but for anything at speed i would suggest testing the included ones first to see if you´re happy with the quality and then decide later if you need the upgrade
question... should we film with the lens protectors on?.... or take them off during filming... just got my x4, and haven't used it yet.. can't find anyone explaining the yes or no to this... thank you
@@RobHK okee doke.. I'll be doing mostly real estate vids... so you're saying lens guards off for things like that... but action stuff is okay to leave guards on... I'm assuming to protect the lens from water spots.. debris etc.... correct? and THANKS for your response!
In Insta360 Studio you can turn on dewarp and get rid of the curved horizon. No need to worry about how high you hold the camera. It is a 360 camera after all.
Just got my X4, i was a GoPro fanboy, but sold my Max and Hero 9 and this has replaced them both and so far is very good, and editing is a breeze compared to GoPro. Ive kept my Hero 5 Black with divesuit for water based shots though.
Wish I knew about the cleaning the lense And protective lense thing before I traveled, did over 500 Gb on the Insta x4 about 50% of it is near enough to unusable due to fog, finger prints and generally things that would have been easy to avoid.
How can I make my footage don't look like a shit? Because even in the daylight the footage from x4 has a lot of noise, this is so annoying 😢 Please help me.
My footage looks bad because this camera is a piece of garbage. I put it in motorcycle mode and go for a ride and looking at my footage through my phone as soon as I take my first turn the camera just starts wandering all over the place.

Set to dewarp mode on single lens for standard recording.
This is definitely the best and the most useful insta360 x4 pro tips vdo.

It needs to be 16K to give 4K footage after reframe.
