great video but as a cali native i do wanna refute one point. You mentioned bud wasn’t cheap in california and i would agree, a lot of name brand top tier weed is overpriced. However, there’s a lot of smaller brands or black market growers who grow similar quality for substantially cheaper. I can get half oz’s of quality indoor from a dispo for 50-80$, and oz’s of top shelf from a black market vendor from 100-160$. In my opinion, a lot of these cheaper options are only 5-15% worse, but can be half the price or less. I assume something that leads to your cali being extra expensive is the fact that people are mostly shipping name brands that already are tax in cali. Basically, i think the branding and hype of some cali is causing shippers to prioritize that and thus filtering out a lot of FIRE that would be substantially cheaper. Keep up the bangers drew

I’m from Cali and there’s plenty of brands being faked out here too. I’ve seen clubs purchasing bulk of these “top tier” and it’s really your homegrown hippie with a billion Mylar bags with different strain names. I’ve always stuck to jungle boys cuz i have a childhood friend who grows with them in east la. But I’ve found plenty of street buds that are just as comparable to the top shelf in a dispensary. Way cheaper. It’s like buying the Apple products of bud. You know there’s other ones out there but the “Cali” packs bring people in more.

There will be a day when the UK realises what its leaving on the table in terms of revenue. When that day comes 'Britweed' will be just as prominent as any of the American offerings. Imagine all the OG growers just sat, patiently for years, waiting for their time to shine. The best in the UK is almost always in small, closed off markets, where only friends get to experience the very cream of what a strain is capable of. You will never see certain strains unless you are local to these markets in a way which puts you in that friend group. Of course, there are levels to everything, and no one area is better than another in terms of what they are capable of, but honestly, there are many, many 'pheno miracles' all over the UK, held by people who often are not impressed at the sight of a 'cali weed' bag and its contents.
The best thing you could do drew is buy some cali genetics from the likes of in-house or compound etc, set up a small grow tent in your room there and grow them out, you might be very surprised at the results.

What blows my mind is that Cali is still considered to have the best herb. Having been all over the US hunting the best in the world, I put Cali like, 6th at best. I personally think Washington (not dc) us number one for best herb AND most reasonable prices. Colorado had some top indoor, lots of small craft artists. Michigan's got a killer scene too believe it or not. Cali is too flashy, too expensive, too overmarketed, but still pretty damn good herb.

Their dutchberry is really good, one of their best that they "control" but I swear to God on everything, I can grow that shit 1000% better than they can in their shitass coco setup they run at their main facility. Dream City wasn't exactly Ballin on their setup, but we had better genetics because we were one the only facility under their umbrella that had dedicated canopy space to sizable phenohunts. Our headgrower was the best grower in Washington, I ran the mom room and literally lived at the farm. I left right after the headgrower did, wasn't the same after that. He started up his own company, bought a farm around the corner and is now pumping out probably the best herb in the world. It's still only a tier 1, but he has noone telling him what to do so he's killing the game quietly. His new company is called "Sacred", look him up. I'm not dropping names here.

im still trying to figure out what he does with all the bud in each bag he bought... all the time i get bud here in the states it comes in some type of quality sealed bag with a shop or growers branding but not all the cali pack type just what the dispo has and grows usually but still like anytime i get it in a sealed bag you can feel the bud in there and actually see it like the bag is pressed out... all those bags seem totally flat.
The main thing which makes cali better is the fact they dry, trim and cure it properly. Over here the process is focused on dry it and fly it. I believe I can prove that cali isn't better than 'proper' bud here and how we can start to stamp out the cali fakes.
From my experience a bag of good UK grown by someone who knows what they are doing is more often than not better than these packs , everything that gets imported is probably stuff rejected from their market
The cali packs that do get backdoored from dispensaries, get backdoored bc they always have an excess amt of stock compared to what they sell legally. So it's usually not rejected stuff, or stuff that didn't sell, just stuff they had too much of. On top of that, nowadays most of the stuff being "imported" isn't even from Cali to begin with, Spain has a huge market for fake Cali brands and seems to supply quite a bit of it especially now that so many cali vendors stopped international orders.
will never forget how the coffeeshop greenplace in amsterdam was selling fake cali packs for 100€ couple years ago but now they have legit import stuff but still crazy expensive

Id say a big problem with Cali is its usually homegrown with a lot of PGR plant growth regulators so the buds are super dense hard nugs that dont look like organic growth
Not really mate, I don't doubt there are people selling PGR as Cali to people who don't have a clue but PGR bud Isn't common at all in the UK anymore. It can be spotted a mile off and has next to no smell, it would be very hard to pass off as Cali. The "big problem" is basically that UK growers have got so good that the majority of people can't tell the difference.
Drew what are your plans for 4/20 if you have made any? When I was younger it was just a day out with mates. I quit for 6 years and started again last year because of a workplace injury, it was the only thing to help me cope. I want to be involved in a push for legalisation and I'm hoping there are some kind of political movements happening 4/20. Would be cool to know what you're intending on doing and whether or not your community here would/could get involved.

My mate grew some of the 1st purple punch in the UK about 7 years ago. In house genetics were the 1st available seeds I saw and he bought up pretty much all the packs from urban green Birmingham. I was getting 220's at the time for jaffa cookies, jaffa glue pie, viper cookies etc but we said 280 on the PP. That was down the line, 80 zeds to 2 people in 24hrs. They ended up in manny and Notts where it was lapped up and loved as cali at 650's. You literally couldn't tell the difference

i very much love as an American smoker being able to get an inside look at European canna culture. it was fun trying to find diffrences. like minus the scratch off on the suave the palm trees were made with a different kind if reflective color and was more RGB vs the silver base. crazy the fake one makes me want to grab it more XD
The UK does get real Cali but its normally b or bulk grade, thats how they start making up the difference in price.A grade goes straight to the dispensaries. I have seen better buds in lower grades since most do it by size not quality. Any cookies brand could come from anywhere in the US they grow local to each dispensary. Some brands you will never see legits of over there, they dont distribute the same way as the bigger brands. Yea QRs are the best way to keep em legit but if its worth it someone will set up thier own codes.
Now, why would a person that has Columbia & Mexico on their doorstep, waste their time with a KG of bud, when a KG of white is worth a lot more for the same weight? You only need to ask yourself that to work out real Cali is nearly non-existent. Aside from that, UK growers grow indoors. The best Cali bud is grown indoors. Provided both are grown to the same standard, there's no difference.

Correction, theyre putting some cheapo not so moldy, usually still moldy/rotted bud in them and selling a ton of old, sprayed, bleached, moldy crap as standard..
Is worth noting u can cop older batches for reduced prices at dispos . You do see some good flavours from good growers but you notice why they are cheaper. Also it's rare u see backdoor as good as the same flower (from the same grower) from a dispo bag. Places like colorado have some crazy loose that is way better value than even most top dispos. JB and cbx do some cheaper bits but most top shelf is 70$+ after tax.

in some sense it dosn't looking at it as whats being called legit cali from brands as if these people selling it dont have that brands actual product its not really reducing there profits as i imagine most of the people smoking the fake if it is wont get the chance to try the actuall legit product
Theres a guy who goes around with a THC tester. Hes tested 20 - 27% regularly even in Scotland. Pretty sure that UK crow is quality enough and Cali is now just overpriced due to transport etc but not much better in general

I got some cali not long ago and it was definitely nice, the price hike and the risk of just getting ripped off doesn't make it worth it. As long as it gets me there, I don't mind what strain it is

Ive been sourcing my stuff from good growers for years, so very little interaction with whats going out on the streets for the most part. I was stunned to find that people are paying 100 a quarter cause it comes in some little foil bag that people claim is from cali....... People have lost the fuking plot lol
As a smoker for 20 years and a friend of distributors for many years I find it very hard to believe that mass quantities of weed are being imported from America. Likely 90% of 'cali' is fake if not more. The logistics just don't add up. It's just a very clever marketing scheme to charge more for the same weed...
I wouldn't say mass but every real dispo does some sort of backdooring to a plug, usually a darknet one who can then do whatever with the real backdoored packs, but the amount of international vendors i've seen is def going down and down so yeah i'd say a good 20% is maybe old cali and the rest is either uk grown cali seeds or boof imported from spain

You’d be lucky to find some nice flower that hasn’t had a PGR additive that ruins the flavour! Bring back the old skool strains!! Some old skool cheese or Rhino. I miss the days of just high grade or bog weed, much easier!
Luckily for me being strictly a hash smoker I don't have this problem. Tbh alot of these newer cali strains taste great but tbh have 0 special qualities to them really in alot of cases.

I can get half oz’s of quality indoor from a dispo for 50-80$, and oz’s of top shelf from a black market vendor from 100-160$. In my opinion, a lot of these cheaper options are only 5-15% worse, but can be half the price or less. I assume something that leads to your cali being extra expensive is the fact that people are mostly shipping name brands that already are tax in cali. Basically, i think the branding and hype of some cali is causing shippers to prioritize that and thus filtering out a lot of FIRE that would be substantially cheaper. Keep up the bangers drew

You will never see certain strains unless you are local to these markets in a way which puts you in that friend group. What blows my mind is that Cali is still considered to have the best herb. Having been all over the US hunting the best in the world, I put Cali like, 6th at best. I personally think Washington (not dc) us number one for best herb AND most reasonable prices. Colorado had some top indoor, lots of small craft artists. Michigan's got a killer scene too believe it or not. Cali is too flashy, too expensive, too overmarketed, but still pretty damn good herb.

The main thing which makes cali better is the fact they dry, trim and cure it properly. Over here the process is focused on dry it and fly it. I believe I can prove that cali isn't better than 'proper' bud here and how we can start to stamp out the cali fakes.
From my experience a bag of good UK grown by someone who knows what they are doing is more often than not better than these packs , everything that gets imported is probably stuff rejected from their market
The cali packs that do get backdoored from dispensaries, get backdoored bc they always have an excess amt of stock compared to what they sell legally. So it's usually not rejected stuff, or stuff that didn't sell, just stuff they had too much of. On top of that, nowadays most of the stuff being "imported" isn't even from Cali to begin with, Spain has a huge market for fake Cali brands and seems to supply quite a bit of it especially now that so many cali vendors stopped international orders.

Not really mate, I don't doubt there are people selling PGR as Cali to people who don't have a clue but PGR bud Isn't common at all in the UK anymore. It can be spotted a mile off and has next to no smell, it would be very hard to pass off as Cali. The "big problem" is basically that UK growers have got so good that the majority of people can't tell the difference.

My mate grew some of the 1st purple punch in the UK about 7 years ago. In house genetics were the 1st available seeds I saw and he bought up pretty much all the packs from urban green Birmingham. I was getting 220's at the time for jaffa cookies, jaffa glue pie, viper cookies etc but we said 280 on the PP. That was down the line, 80 zeds to 2 people in 24hrs. They ended up in manny and Notts where it was lapped up and loved as cali at 650's. You literally couldn't tell the difference

The UK does get real Cali but its normally b or bulk grade, thats how they start making up the difference in price.A grade goes straight to the dispensaries. I have seen better buds in lower grades since most do it by size not quality. Any cookies brand could come from anywhere in the US they grow local to each dispensary. Some brands you will never see legits of over there, they dont distribute the same way as the bigger brands. Yea QRs are the best way to keep em legit but if its worth it someone will set up thier own codes.
Now, why would a person that has Columbia & Mexico on their doorstep, waste their time with a KG of bud, when a KG of white is worth a lot more for the same weight? You only need to ask yourself that to work out real Cali is nearly non-existent. Aside from that, UK growers grow indoors. The best Cali bud is grown indoors. Places like colorado have some crazy loose that is way better value than even most top dispos. JB and cbx do some cheaper bits but most top shelf is 70$+ after tax.

Tops at upto 7 a lb is a risk when the pack don't land. Issue is people landing the food know what band it is but most just try and price it and move it as if it's primo batches. Theres a guy who goes around with a THC tester. Hes tested 20 - 27% regularly even in Scotland. Pretty sure that UK crow is quality enough and Cali is now just overpriced due to transport etc but not much better in general

only problem with QR codes is the people can put a test link from a real item on their bags , so it's still not 100% legit all the time
Most QR canna verify bags I've seen log the date it was first activated. Makes a copy n paste link a bit useless after the first person scans it. If people could fake block chain I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be using that skill to make fake, knock off bags mate 😂
I got some cali not long ago and it was definitely nice, the price hike and the risk of just getting ripped off doesn't make it worth it. As long as it gets me there, I don't mind what strain it is

As a smoker for 20 years and a friend of distributors for many years I find it very hard to believe that mass quantities of weed are being imported from America. Likely 90% of 'cali' is fake if not more. The logistics just don't add up. It's just a very clever marketing scheme to charge more for the same weed...
I wouldn't say mass but every real dispo does some sort of backdooring to a plug, usually a darknet one who can then do whatever with the real backdoored packs, but the amount of international vendors i've seen is def going down and down so yeah i'd say a good 20% is maybe old cali and the rest is either uk grown cali seeds or boof imported from spain
