I have a 2002 Impala (3.4L v6) with 365,000kms on the odometer, and it's still going strong! It literally never lets me down. Not even during wintertime, going uphill on an unplowed highway in early morning darkness.. With no streetlights.... And all-season tires. Best car ever.

Back in 09 my buddy needed a >cheap< ride and payed me to find him a reliable car. Found him a '02 Impala 9C1 3.8 police car. it had 215K miles but was only $2000. He drove it for 3 years and sold it to me for $500 @ 275K miles. I drove it for a year till A/C went out sold it for $1500 with 300K miles. NEVER any engine or trans problems !!! Lucky you. My dad's with the 3.8 vibrates violently anywhere above 50mph. Only 90K on the odometer. At 82K the fuel pump had to be replaced. The old fuel pump gave it too much fuel and ruined the catalitic converter, so we had to replace that as well. I think they look nice but poorly made.

But honestly if i were in your shoes id get the 2005 impala because itll be a v6 and be less harsh on the gas and itll also be quicker and more nimble than the others. The motor equipped in those is the 3800 bulletproof motor and theyre great. The transmissions are the weak link in those cars but if you got the money, install a transgo shift kit for some upgraded performance in the trans. Mine broke due to the transmission. But of course, because of a cost cutting culture, they instead went with the FWD W platform, just like what they did with the cost cutting when they developed RWD versions of the W cars on the RWD V and then RWD Zeta, and then an order from the CEO put them (later on, kept them) on the W platform.

This is a very outdated vehicle. Belongs in the 90s, not the 2000s.

TheTechCguy you buggin. The 3800 V6 was one of the best and most reliable engines GM ever made. Lightweight pushrod design and smooth seamless operation made it one heck of a motor!

No way, if maintained properly, the 3800 V6 is a engine built for torque, I drove a Buick 3800 OHV, and when everything was new on my car, that damn car hauled ass!
