What a tragic, yet unexpected, backstory! Great video, though!
As usual, I would like to recomend the following video: "Thrawn: a COMPLETE Life story (Canon) Part 1" by the channel: "MetaNerdz Lore". You will not regret this One! Trust me...
Maybe someday when we can run those LLMs locally. Right now, paying a monthly fee for small talk just doesn't make economic sense. Maybe it's more of a whale product?
Every time you think Simon’s story can’t get any sadder, it keeps getting more depressing. This is not as deep as his sorrow goes or will grow.
No reaction to dogpacks new video?
"I Remember You" is one of those Adventure Time episodes that you can't skip. It's truly remarkable. Seeing how Marceline essentially lost her real father because of his use of the crown, which I am sure is a metaphor for dementia. It's heartbreaking seeing someone who you once loved become a completely different version of themselves. Despite what Simon has become, Marceline still tries to maintain the relationship that her and Simon once had, albeit a new kind of relationship.
There’s a reason why cn posted it on their UA-cam.
Unless it's TVSins. then you SKIP! the entire episode
"I remember you" is a MUST in Adventure Time, it's so immtional and perfect. It just so gooooood 😊
Perhaps they skipped it because even they knew there was nothing wrong with it lol
@@HoDoBoDo it is a kid friendly metaphor for dementia
Now you know why Marcy was extremely upset when her ex sold teddy bear to a witch, it was the last sentimental item that Simon gave to her, and for the plush to survive over 1,000 years really shows that Marcy really cared so much
Especially considering its color
I’m pretty sure she has repaired the Teddy over the years.
Her last piece of the dad she lost.
@@MatthewTeachout-xj4yyYep, we see her repairing in a bunch of different scenes actually
Fun fact. If you go back to the christmas special where simon was first revealed, in the end where everyone gethers every year to watch Ice King's tapes, Marceline is the only one outside and frowning. Make sure my man sees this
He actually did went back and checked, you can watch the full reaction in his twitch Vods
He was more on top of it than chat was and went back and called it out himself :)
I just went back and saw that part of the episode and it makes me sadder to not have noticed it before, the fact that she was there knowing she was still unsure if she could confront him even after he saw his past self knowing full well she could never get her father back is just heartbreaking 😢
One of those things that was almost certainly not intended at the time, was probably just intended as a callback to her first episode where she showed up at the window and did the same thing after Jake was telling Finn scary vampire stories, but with later context adds some major extra layers retroactively.
@@neoman4426 another layer I didn't think about until now is how this explains why she keeps moving around all the time. The first episode with Marceline establishes that she's lived pretty much everywhere in Ooo. She's been trying to avoid Ice King because it hurts to see him like this, so after he finds her living space and starts visiting, she moves somewhere else.
I love how Ice King is just jamming along until "But I remember that I saw you frown, I swear it wasn't me, it was the crown". That look of concern and confusion at that line, like Simon is just under the surface, having a moment of near lucidity, then right back to jamming as Simon slips back to the depths
the weird: "wait! why did i make her sad?"
and then he slips away again
The way he smiles again as they go back into the refrain always hits me right in the heart
The lines he gets under his eyes as he says "The Crown" are so impactful. Just that bit is him peaking under the veil for a moment, and then it's gone.
I took it as him being confused. Like “my crown? What do I mean my crown?” And then right back to forgetting his concern and singing again
@@neoman4426 it's not only that, marceline notice this too, she leans forward to see if somehow reading the letter is gonna make simon remember, but when ice king just starts smiling again is when marceline finally starts crying
The detail why marceline watched the Christmas movies outside the treehouse was so she wouldn’t interact with ice king
Not only that-it’s just further heartbreaking proof that Ice King barely remembers Simon and certainly isn’t the same person anymore. The only thing he’s really held onto is his obsession with finding his “princess”
Also that BMO analysis of Ice King's tears, the letter M that forms Gunter (probably a hint to a future episode where Simon calls Marcy Gunther)
@@cloudsareriddlesare you in blind or you know about other episodes?

He's not wrong, ICE KING doesn't know who marceline is, he never said anything about simon
@@mekiherring2088 No, he does. The Episode starts off with him, knowing who she is
I find it hilarious because honestly my first reaction was, "oh no Ice King gonna try to rizz Marceline now" I wish I wasn't right.
@@RennHans I was refering to ice king not knowing marceline's past
@@mekiherring2088 yeah but this isn't the first time they have met after the war. "everytime i move eventually you'll find me and start hanging around, just another lame excuse to see me, man it's getting me down."
When Ice King sings it hits particularly hard because it’s Simon saying his last written words to Marcaline.
The fact that, despite not remembering, it still seems to make him sad and uncomfortable proves that there’s still something left of Simon.
@@JacksonVoet or Ice king is just concerned while not knowing who marceline is
@@mekiherring2088 He doesn’t know that what he’s reading is anything more than lyrics he wrote, but those feelings are the one thing the crown can’t, and never wanted to erase.

MAJOR SPOILERS IF YOUR NAME IS NUX DO NOT READ
the reason Why Winter King was a sociopath and Candy Queen was insane and obsessed with Winter King in that alternate timeline is because of that emotional connection Simon has. Ice Kings insanity is driven by Love. The only way he wouldn’t be crazy is if he didn’t love anyone. It’s implied from this in particular is that the Crown drives everyone crazy in specific ways. The Crown wish was to be what Gunther Imagined Evergreen to be a powerful Ice Wizard who loves Gunther but also loves to boss him around, pile that core part of the crown with the strongest aspects of anyone who wore the crown that can’t be erased and everyone is their own version of the Ice King.
Ice Finn went insane with his obsession of saving people, The Hero Heart fighting against the Evergreen just like Simons love fighting against The Evergreen.
Nah you definitely see ice king's facial expression change for a moment like he almost remembers and then inmediately goes back to usual Ice King😭
Fun fact: Ice King's voice actor used to babysit Marceline's voice actor when she was a kid.
😭❤️
That’s a very wholesome fact about Tom Kenny, thanks for sharing.
That's actually crazy lore
Another fun fact: Hudson Abadeer va is Marceline's va dad irl. He is good friend with Tom Kenny thus the reason for him babysitting Olivia
Was that an inspiration for the episode?
The line "Please forgive me for whatever i do when I don't remember you" makes me cry every time.
same...
SOBBING
First time hearing it today…
…dang…
Ice King finding the Enchiridion was kinda fate, because raising Marceline in a post apocalypse was a hero move.
Despite losing his mind, he still tried helping where he can. Man this story is so tragic but I'm glad we get Simon's story
Learning what happens if he didn’t use the crown. Simon’s sacrifice for Marceline didn’t affect just her. It affected the whole world. He kept the crown away from others.
@@infinityheart_tm9270 The fact that like... he's as ineffectual as an antagonist as he is is a blessing in disguise. The man he once was was so sweet and loving and caring that he even when it brings the worst out in him, he just winds up being a bit of a creep and that's mostly it. The fact HE wound up with it, when someone would have used it to do far, far worse things... yeah. Yeah.
@@JetBalrog “She’s 13 years old now.”
“Ah dang it, well I’m outta here. Goodbye everyone.”
Since this episode came out, I lost my grandmother to Alzeimers and it hits so much harder now that I have that experience.
Yeah now seeing my grandpa in the middle of loosing his memories this hurts so much more. It’s not always this bad just yet but there have been times when he’s been almost as bad as ice king. Especially when we are not always around constantly reminding him who we are.
He’s just so confused a lot of the time.
Yup, my grandpa passed away this January and he was losing his personality and some memories before he had a stroke and had to be moved into hospice after his condition worsened after the surgery
So you notice how sometimes Ice King is extremely thin and other times he's fat? Apparently, since Ice King is magically immortal and doesn't need to eat to survive, he goes long stretches of time without eating and becomes thin. When he gets "dumped" by a princess, though, he'll often start binge eating ice cream out of sadness and gets fat for a while.
its totally not jsut incosistent character deisgn : D
@sarafontanini7051 no because that wouldn't be just inconsistent it would be an extremely unprofessional lack of any care in your characters, which just isnt the case as seen by other long running designs in the show
I really liked your theory, but Ice King never gets fat on the show, is just his robe fabric that's really thick and pass this illusion.
@@carlosgomes6295 he literally lifts up his shirt and is fat in this very episode, that's why I mentioned it. This also isn't a theory, it's from the creators.
Now you know why Marceline had all those territories marked when she was introduced. Anything to stay one step ahead of her past
Genuinely don’t know what is sadder, the episode itself, or the fact that we’re never gonna get another show like adventure Time EVER again
And yes, I know about Fiona and cake, but that’s besides the point
I’m talking about well written shows with genuine emotional moments as a whole
I think they are rare but stuff like this does come around every once in a while
There a few good stuff, avatar, adventures time, Steven universe
Where one chapter ends a new one begins.
Indie Animation is where it’s at now.
If you're talking about animation with pure emotion I would suggest watching Arcane. But yeah, having a kids show with moments like this is rare for sure.
a really cool detail that I love about this episode and that is not that noticeable is in 19:54 when ice king is reading the letter, he almost look like he is remembering, so marceline leans forward and then ice king smiles again, which is when marceline finally starts crying. I always took this as the moment marceline realized that simon was really gone
Anyone ever notices that Ice King hurts everyone but not only immediately apologizes for pushing Marceline, but I don't think he has EVER laid hands on her. It's as if the Simon inside of Ice King is incapable of hurting her (on purpose at least)
Another element to this is that the VA for Ice King used to babysit the VA for Marceline
Oh twist the knife further in why don’t you
Ye just had to make hurt more
Why would you say that? 🥲
All of us are going to actually cry when Nux gets to the Simon and Marcy episode
Isn't it next ?
@@giannicolamatteo8155 I don't remember what season it's in 😅
@@giannicolamatteo8155 It is not. The Lich is next which is a whole other world of crazy for Nux. Simon and Marcy is like 15 episodes away. Followed closely (2 episodes) to my personal favorite of Puhoy.
Facts…😭
Honestly that episode hits but this one _messes me up_ . There’s something about seeing the desperation and grief in Marceline this episode that just guts me each time.
This is just a repeat of Holly Jolly Secrets all the way down to Nux saying that he was gonna quit.
WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT NUX
Dude, Tom Kenny going from happily singing to sad to mad is amazing.
Honestly I never fully appreciated just what a talented voice actor he was until I saw this show.
He went from “that guy that voices SpongeBob” to legit one of my favorite voice actors of all time.
(Finding out he also voices Raimundo from Xaiolin Showdown certainly didn’t hurt either)
Its always interesting to see when Nux is so shaken or taken aback by something that even HE is not willing to make any joke that may be disrespectful to the characters in the moment
the fact he shares the fact he lived a loved one having dimentia really contextualises that too. Of course he wouldn't joke about something that he lived through.
Fun fact. This episode is born out of a earlier mistake. Early on in the show, they had ice king sing Marceline's fries song. When fan pointed it out, they ran with it and created their shared backstory.
Another neat thing, in Marceline's episode where Finn goes into her memories, he actually sees a young Marceline from during the early time after the mushroom war.
and jsut like here in that flashback she was alone...
In the closet episode you can also see a notebook with “Gunther” written on it in her room.
Ice king doesn't know who he or marceline is, he just knows that he cares about her.
20:56 There is also something quite sad happening from Finn's perspective, a point of inflexion of sorts, he may say he didin't understand the situation, but eventually does, as this is the part on the series where Finn stops calling him the Ice King, but Simon
He used Simon and Ice King interchangeably since the Christmas episode, but after this he pretty much dropped Ice King entirely
You can also see later on he really dials back the aggression on him. Like they don’t tolerate his nonsense when he manipulates or tries to kidnap people, but they also don’t outright hurt him nearly as much.
Kinda cool to see Finn adjusting to a situation he used to think was black and white and develop a bit of empathy.
Dude at 12:25 I’ve never seen nux actually frown before. Makes all this hit even harder
i didn't think his avatar was capable of frowning, it really hits harder
Ikr
I always love watching Marceline's jaw drop that extra bit once she first sees the lyrics. So many years and she still cares for Simon, but thought he left nothing of himself to her all those years except for hambo, only to find lyrics that persisted from that ancient time.
The VA for Jake using his batman voice, as Jake, is hilarious.
"I Remember You" is a miracle of television. While this episode expertly expands the worldbuilding and lore of Adventure Time, the real and and genuine relationship displayed between Marceline and Ice King in this episode sticks with you more than anything else. I feel like just calling this episode "lore" doesn't do justice to how powerful this episode is on a relatable and emotional level.
Is character driven, and it happens to have lore.
I honestly hated ice king before this episode, thought he was a horrible joke of a character but after this i couldn't help but empathize with him
Watching this episode again after knowing all the Marceline and Simon lore makes this all the more impactful.
The plushy that marceline holds as her most valuable item being the one Simon gifted her as a kid is such a painfully beautiful thing and the tragedy that he doesn’t remember anything but in his heart he still knows what’s important to him and still goes out of his was to find and protect it is amazing and you come too see how good of a person Simon is despite the crowns influence when you see how other who had worn the twisted crown ended up
I feel you as far as having a grandfather with a memory degenerative diagnosis. I found Adventure Time and Ice King shorty after my grandpa was diagnosed and in a weird way Ice King helped me come to terms with it, as well as helping me through my grief after he passed.
I hope you continue to appreciate Ice King (as you've done so far) for the amazingly wonderful and heartbreaking character that he is.
This episode is why the princess kidnapper is everyone's favorite character
Nux lore just dropped and its making me sad 22:52 😢
😥
Shit I read this just as the video got to this point...😢
Jeez, yeah.
3:15 not the first time we've seen him do that. In holly jolly secrets episode, we watched him sing it in a different version lol.
The line "its keeping me alive but its driving me crazy and i need it to save you but WHOS GONNA SAVE ME, pls forgive me for whatever I do, if I don't remember you" is good and hits hard like even he knew he would forget his "daughter" and slowly as time went on forgot less and less like dementia A TRULY GREAT Sacrifice indeed
Everytime I watch this episode, it just leaves me saddened, and the Nux lore at the end with his Grandfather just broke me all together, it's stuff like this that really make you appreciate the people you have a lot more
Hunson was her father, Ice Ki- Simon, was her dad
7:24
That soft "no" really hurts in hindsight.
A whole millennium of trying to make him remember and she failed. She finally gives up and tries to forget the man who saved her. She can't... Not if he keeps coming back...
3:46 technically, Marcy's dad is king of the nightosphere, thus as his daughter, she is the princess of it, making her queen of vampires and princess of demons. So ya
Though, Simon was the father Marcie needed. Avadeer was just the dad she got. Still, they do patch things up. But, it’s pretty clear she has a little more chemistry with Simon than her real dad.

Fun Facts about this Episode:
In the Ice King's "The Past" room, several Mushroom War-related things appear, such as:
In the bottom left in a box, there is a picture of a meteorite heading for Earth.
One of Betty's scarves hanging from a box, which could have contained other things that belonged to her. This box also has a pink shirt and a picture turned backwards.
An army helmet.
A ripped up stop sign.
Towards the end of the episode when Ice King is singing about "Slipping away" his facial expression begins to show regret, hinting that he may have a brief moment of lucidity.
This marks the 3rd time anyone has referred to Ice King as Simon, with the first being Finn in "Beyond this Earthly Realm" and Ricardio in "Lady & Peebles."
When the Ice King lifts his tunic, he is shown to be fatter than in prior episodes.
When Ice King climbs on the fridge, he says "someone," still thinking about his song.
While he is crying about being alone, Ice King says, "Grod in the sky, please tell me why!" referring to Grob Gob Glob Grod.
As Simon Petrikov moves towards a young Marceline to comfort her, a Scientific Parasite can be seen in the breast pocket of his coat, meaning that Simon's intelligence and sanity was still that intact that time.
In the corner of the picture of Simon Petrikov holding the Enchiridion, part of Betty's face can be seen.
In the episode's ending flashback, as Ice King discovers her by herself, Marceline appears to be muttering "daddy" as she cries.
Ice King's keyboard has a sticker of a red Rainicorn with a blonde mane.
In the original storyboard, when Ice King is ashamed of himself for pushing Marceline and decides to "just stay out of her way," he climbs into Marceline's freezer instead of just on top of her refrigerator.
Ice King also said that he was an artist, instead of a lyricist.
On Simon's news article, when the saturation is turned up, the Ice King's tears mentioned earlier in the episode become more visible.
On the newspaper, it is said it is written by Bruce Guese.
Marceline's song Nuts mentions that "Every time I move eventually you'd find me." This indicates Marceline has had a lot of houses probably because Ice King found them all. Marceline knew the crown affects the Ice King as revealed in later episodes.
One segment of the song that Ice King sings sounds similar when compared to the second and third stanza of the semi-extended version of "We Are The Crystal Gems"; the opening song to the show, "Steven Universe". This may be due to Rebecca Sugar's contribution to writing both of the songs.
On a piece of paper in the "The Past" room is the marriage date of background artist Santino Lascano (8-18-2012). These numbers are hidden in several other episodes.
This episode's title card foreshadows the events of a future episode.
This episode might be an allegory to the Alzheimer's disease. As Ice King's inability to remember his identity and his past is strikingly parallel to the symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease.
This episode is known for being one of the most emotional and gut-wrenching episodes in Adventure Time.
Episode connections:
Ice King sings a variation of the Fry Song in this episode; he was revealed to know of the song in "Holly Jolly Secrets Part II." In this version, most of the song's verbs and a few words are replaced with the word "gunt," as he was singing this variation to Gunter.
Gunter can be seen eating the Ice King's Marceline wig, causing it to gag. Gagging on hair becomes an important device for defeating the an enemy in a future episode.
This is Marceline's second appearance in Season 4, since "Return to the Nightosphere" and "Daddy's Little Monster."
Marceline's stuffed toy, Hambo, that she received in this episode, was first shown in "Memory of a Memory" when Marceline was replacing its missing button-eye.
Little Marceline appears to be wearing the same clothes she wore in "Memory of a Memory," although not torn and faded.
There is a newspaper clipping with the Ice King (then known as Simon Petrikov) discovering the Enchiridion, from the episode "The Enchiridion!"
Simon Petrikov's speech in "Holly Jolly Secrets Part II" mentions that the power of the crown will save him. In this episode the letters to Marceline mention that the magic is keeping him alive.
The title itself is a reference to the Skid Row song "I Remember You."
The book Mind Games by Jay T. Doggzone from "Reign of Gunters" appears again, advising Ice King that "Chicks dig bros with tortured pasts."
Ice King's ruined bass drum from "The Chamber of Frozen Blades" and the "EAT" sign that appears outside of the diner in "Memory of a Memory" can be seen in his "The Past" room.
When Ice King goes to the "The Past" room, the stairs look like the stairs Finn and NEPTR fall on in "What is Life?"
A sticker on Ice King's keyboard resembles the Rainicorn on Princess Bubblegum's shirt in "The Real You."
This episode introduces a second pair of glasses that Simon wears with a crack over it's left lens; this isn't the same glasses he wears during his video diaries as shown in "Holly Jolly Secrets Part II" and "Everything Stays".
Cultural references:
Marceline is wearing a No Smoking T-shirt.
Ice King mentions prog (progressive) rock, a genre of music that became popular in the early 70's. Innovative prog rock bands include Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Rush, Kansas, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Before Jake picks up the Ice King, he speaks in a similar way to Batman, from the series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, to tell Ice King, "Your constant harassment of the female gender makes me sick!" The storyboard calls for him to speak "Batman style"; this is reflected in the closed captions. Jake's voice actor, John DiMaggio, has also worked on Batman: The Brave and The Bold voicing Aquaman, Gorilla Grodd and many other characters as well as playing the Joker in Under the Red Hood.
Multiple shotgun shells can be seen on the last scene of the episode scattered on the floor.
The instrument that Marceline and Ice King play throughout the episode is an Omnichord, a keyboard like harp that was made popular by the Suzuki company in the 80's. This is also what Rebecca Sugar uses to play the background melody for Oh Bubblegum, Nuts, and I Remember You.
The colors and the letters of the destroyed logo of the shop Simon takes the teddy bear from match the Toys "Я" Us logo.
The war wreckage at the end has a sign that says "01 N". This may be the Highway 101 North sign, which runs through California, Oregon, and Washington.
Storyline analysis:
Marceline states while singing "Nuts" that Ice King always eventually finds her no matter how many times she moves, referencing her many homes.
Notes in the storyboard suggest that Simon Petrikov and Marceline had met prior to the scene shown in the episode, but Simon had left her alone for some reason.
The lyrics to "Remember You" were taken from letters written by Simon Petrikov to Marceline, explaining why he does not remember her, and that he needed the crown to stay alive even though it was making him insane.
When Marceline yells at him and calls him "Simon," Ice King replies with "What-mon?" demonstrating that he has forgotten that he was Simon Petrikov.
It can be seen that Marceline is younger in the flashback at the end of the episode than she was in the first memory from "Memory of a Memory." In the former, she is a toddler, and in the latter, she appears to be closer to 7 to 10 years old. More evidence that time has passed between these two points is that Hambo's color has faded in the latter time point, along with Marceline's clothes appearing to have faded color and been tattered.
Production notes:
The original title for this episode was "Help."
Errors:
While attempting to untangle his cords, Ice King's drums are to the right of the ladder behind him, but when Finn and Jake bust in, his drums switch to being on the left side of the ladder and the omnichord is gone. Also, when Marceline is carrying Ice King both the drums and the omnichord are gone.
Ice King's crown is abnormally large for most of the episode. It remains that way until he falls off the refrigerator.
When Finn and Jake bust in, Ice King's head is positioned away from his drums, yet when Jake is chastising Ice King for harassing females, his head is next to his drums. Ice King's head is positioned away from his drums when Jake picks him up only seconds later.
When Marceline was singing "Nuts" it zooms to a ceiling view, and the window that looks into the living room is gone.
In the same scene, Ice King's crown has six points, instead of the usual three to four.
The tile Marceline sits on changes from white to black and back to white.
When Marceline and Ice King are singing "Remember You," the window that looks into the kitchen has mysteriously closed.
When Marceline was playing her axe bass on the couch, the two candles over-top the couch were not lit. However, when Marceline was standing in the door way yelling at Ice King to get out, the candles were lit up.
When Marceline exits her house she stands near the grass, but when she is talking to Ice King and leaves Gunter outside she is not near the grass.
The scrapbook Ice King throws by the destroyed drum bass is not there when Gunter 'tells' him Marceline now lives in a cave.
There are various continuity errors regarding Marceline's fangs.
The kitchen's floor changes while Marceline and Ice King are there.
After Ice King tells Marceline "Yeah. Yeah, that's good! Keep doin' that!" she and the omnichord are now closer to the ladder.
Ice King is not seen through the window when he enters Marceline's house.
Holy shit this is impressive

I'm sorry that you had to experience your grandfather's dementia journey. I've gotten a bit numb to dementia at this point; I work at a nursing home where 60-70% of the population has dementia.
Simply being kind, patient and understanding means the world to someone who can't quite connect the dots.
One of my residents refers to me as John, and I just don't correct her anymore. We talk about how her dogs are in the kennel downstairs, how annoyed she is at her neighbor, Who she is going to give a piece of her mind to when she sees them next. I listen to her and reassure her when she insists her kids are in danger.
We have another resident - not on my floor - who survived the Holocaust as well. The days when this resident is remembering when her younger sister was taken away are ... hard.
If anyone reading this has dementia in your life, I recommend a book called "Creating Moments of Joy" by Jolene Brackey.
Be patient with folks with dementia. Hell, learn how to have an off the cuft, stream of consciousness conversation. Improv skills allow you to just go with the flow when you're talking about stuff that happened decades ago, with people or things who may be dead and gone for as long, or who never existed.
can't wait for the NEXT lore drop with marceline and simon
Is this the best episode of Adventure time of all time? Potentially. You could argue that it is, you could argue a few others to be better too, all is valid. But damn, is this my FAVORITE episode of Adventure time? Absolutely. Glad you finally got to experience it with us!
This is up there. It may be one of the most pivotal episodes in the show's history, but there are other equally amazing episodes.
I personally think Princess Cookie is my favorite episode. It might not be in everyone's top 10, but it struck a chord with me, particularly.
@@Aflay1 I can absolutely understand how memorable Princess Cookie can be under right circumstances. Certainly an above average episode for me, and above average is pretty nice in a show as good as this.
its not the most fun episode, as it becomes very sad and emotional, but its a powerful episode and very important for the story and characters
When Burning Low came out, I didn’t think any episode in this season would top it. Then this episode came along and kicked me right in the nuts.
8:04 "Whatever you are into." Lmao!
MEN AND WOMEN
I thought Nux was just getting one of the best lore in Adventure Time but it turns out we are getting some of Nux Taku lore too
This episode hits even harder after watching the whole show and its spinoffs, their relationship & story is both sad and heartwarming.
He finally made it! The episode that rips out your heart, smashes it to pieces, while confirming the mind blowing horror that Ooo is a post apocalypse. And all the fantasy and magical creatures is a result of horrific mutation.
Nuxa your a absolute GOD for not censoring this one art needs to be witnessed and enjoyed by the world and you added so much to this recap
I was a fulltime caretaker of my father who had dementia til he died in 2020. This episode was sweet when I first saw it on CN, but now it is sweet and heartbreaking. When your father gets to a point where he can't remember your name or who you are but still wants to be with you and talk to you, it is horribly sad.
So sorry for ur grandfather, Nux. He must've been a great man for you to care that much about him.
Some would call immortality a gift, while others would say it’s a curse. The crown offers extraordinary power, but at the cost of one’s sanity. Simon is still alive, but the madness of the crown has already warped his mind to the point who he is keeps being buried, only fragments resurfacing. When they’re singing in this episode, I’ve heard that there’s a split second where Simon barely recognizes her, but he’s just beneath the surface.
Thank you, Nux. I can’t remember the last time I cried.😭
Nuxanor is the first reactor ive ever seen to actually remember Hambo!
And thats why i love watching him, he actually takes the time to remember what hes already watched and it makes hia reactions so much better
I hope the next few episodes will be calm and not an emotional roller-coaster.
😂😂😂😂😂
Dude… Nux. I am so sorry brother. I can even imagine having that level of heart break. I feel you though, we’re pretty close to someone who unfortunately is slipping. She didn’t remember spending time with my wife literally hours after they were together.
"I Remember You" always makes me cry. It's jsut such a heatbreaking song....
and yeah, that final flashback at the end really recontextualises what Ash did to Wambo and makes you realise how awful that was. He sold her most precious item, the last thing she had to remember Simon before he became Ice King, for a cheap spell.
This episode also retcons why we don't really see Marceline interact with Ice King but its a great retcon cause it makes so much sense and adds so much to the both of them. we never see them interact cause marceline is actively avoiding him because she can't bear to see him like this.
She was just a lost, lonely little girl with seemingly noone around to take care of her during the apocalypse, and he was a man searching for his lsot love who finds this little girl and decides to be the one adult who can take care of her, for as long as he can until he loses his mind. he was more of a father to her than her biological dad and we can see that jsut from this one episode with only context clues and that tiny flashback.
This is the saddest episode of adventure time and noone can get through it unscathed.
Huntsman Avadeer was the father she got. But Simon was the father she needed. Ice King finding Marceline every few years, and him throwing the paper clippings at her, telling her “It’s all here in song baby!”, I think that’s the small part of Simon in Ice King, trying to say to Marcie: “I may be gone, but he’s still here. Don’t be sad anymore. Please”.
Seeing nux struggle to determine their relationship is gold.
15:49 father daughter. Back during the ooopacolypse, before ice king was ice king, and Marcy was the vampire queen, ice king was Simon, and Marcy was just the demon princess. She was a small defenseless kid. Simon found her and became her guardian. The crown kept him alive, and allowed him to protect Marcy, but it was also driving him crazy, and stripping him of his memories as Simon.
One of the most goated episodes in animation history! This should've broke the internet if social media was as prevalent back then! I can't even begin to say how much creativity went into this show! Glad I went to school with these guys cuz seeing how this show was crafted behind the scenes was insane enough!
Holly jolly secrets was the tip of the cursed ice burg this is dipping into the waters
When I first saw this episode in 2012, I knew that Adventure Time had gotten to another level and was a committed fan since.
this has always been my all time favorite adventure time episode and ive been waiting for this episode from the begining. also this is a great representation for people who suffer with alzeihmers and dementia
Bro..
as someone that grew up watching family members be affected by either alzheimer or demencia this episode was devastating for me.
like no joke, the day i saw Marceline singing with the Iceking for the first time on TV because i first saw when this episode aired on tv, that day made me think of my grandma because my grandma was alive during the episode and she was terribly affected by alzheimer.
now after a few years and my grandma is now gone i see this again through Nux and the memories hits me like a Block of cement thrown to my face.... god this hurts.
I’m a 23 year old man and i’ve seen this episode many many times that I still cry like a baby one of the best episodes in television history
FINALLY ITS HEREEEEE THEEEE EPISODEEE!!! THE ONEEEE THE ONE WHERE WE CRYYYYY!! THE ONE WE'VE BEEN ALL WAITING FOOOR
Actually adventure time lore not just the crown but Magic in general makes people crazy. The Crown lore and magic before the mushroom war is wild
I couldn't remember the episode list, so to see this episode again as the one we were all hyping up just made me go "Oh *_THAT_* one..."
12:25 i honestly think this is the first time ive ever seen his avatar stop smiling
One interesting know about the song is that the voice actor goes near deadpan robotic at the line where he says I can't even remember the things that makes me say. Which is the first line that Simon reads off that directly alludes to the idea that the crown is manipulating his brain
Glad you were here. I'm glad every time someone gets to know adventure time and the stories they brought to life.
Female gentleman here I clicked SO FAST when I a saw that tittle
the song always hits different whenever I hear it. Marceline gets so much closure in this episode
3:40 He shouldn't know anything about marceline... (coughs)... ahem well no she's not a princess, but she is Marceline the vampire Queen, also technically a princess, since Hudson Abadeer, lord of evil, is also the king of the nightosphere, thus making her princess of the nightosphere. She's a princess AND A QUEEN!!!
Can you be both the Princess and Queen at the same time?
I'm crying man😢, this made me cry the first time and now its back for round 2. Such a creative way to storytell and some tragic nux lore to top it off, i feel you man, my grandma is forgeting more things everyday one day i too may be forgotten
I can't believe you're already on this episode so soon, it truly is one of the most heartbreaking and I've been anticipating this one since you started reacting to adventure time, it's one of my favorites for sure
When this episode came out, my nana was starting to forget the people close to her due to her dementia. This hit really really hard at the time, and continues to to this day, but it made me really want to spend more time with her. I'm so glad I did.
Fun fact as an adult Tom Kenny Knew Marceline Va as a kid which is such a funny coincidence with the characters they voice in the show was a older man and young girl
Damn, the story of your grandpas Alzheimer’s about made me cry, reminded me of my grandmother who also had it. Thank you for sharing Nux
I remember getting speechless at the reveal, it's such a beautiful and tragic backstory
- I really love Marceline’s relationship with Simon but as the Ice King it seems that its like she has a father-figure that has Alzheimer’s disease which music can help bring memories to the surface, & it makes it even more incredible because Tom Kenny & Olivia Olson have a very close relationship
- Jake doing a Batman voice is maybe a reference to his voice actor John DiMaggio also voices in the series Batman: The Brave & the Bold as Aquaman, Grodd, & others
- The shop that Simon gets Hambo from maybe Toys R Us & a highway sigh says “01 N” which runs though the states of California, Oregon, & Washington
No one points out the reason why it's called the land of oo and tied to the name from mutants oozers,
Mutaganic ooze
The lichs lair from that one episode, the mushroom bomb from episode finn the human showing it too
I lost both my grandmothers to Alzheimer's and dementia respectively. This episode hits so hard
This is the one I was waiting for. 😁 It's such a sad story, but also a hopeful one because all this time we thought that Simon/Ice King was alone. Then we discover that he does have someone who cares about him but his madness keeps separating them. Ice King might be the villain of the show, but he's also the hero and Marceline has known him long enough to understand that. The next big one is about half way though Season 5. I hope Nux keeps do these even though I know they're a problem for his channel.
ITS HERE
Already watched it on twitch
@@youdontneedtoknow7548 How far behind is UA-cam from Twitch?
yeah, this episode hit hard even when I only watched a few episodes here and there when it was TV
Magic Madness and Sadness so wild to see that it plays out even this far back
I had a grandma who had dementia and other mental health issues near the end of her life and i can sympathize with Marcelle losing a loved one like that it was more tragic and painful for me and my family to watch her forget me and our family and bring powerless to help her remember us then her actual death god it sucks
