    STORYLINE:
The submarine 'Kursk' was raised to the point of its waterline on Wednesday, where its conning tower, with its shattered glass windows and red Russian eagle seal, could be seen above water.
With the Kursk fully out of the water, Prosecutor-General Vladimir Ustinov, top Naval officials and a team of about 40 investigators observed a moment of silence before stepping onto the submarine's deck.
Ustinov sent clear instructions to investigators as to what they should do once the submarine has been dried off.
Russian authorities promise that in two or three days the Kursk would be sufficiently dry to begin investigating its interior in the hope of finding the exact cause of its sinking.

It was murder to not let the UK team help when they were still alive. Putin refused help and the sailors paid the price.

It was help or compromise the entire military. Us American have the same issue at bikini atoll.

Russia doesn't care about murder. They put their own people in harms way all the time and keep it a secret unless it was like Chernobyl where United States and others discovered the deadly disaster.

It was a joint effort. The US Navy was the first to see the sinking Kursk which was relayed to the Joint UK/US command in London, where in Scotland was a recovery submersible.

@@xXHoratiuTheBobXx That's right...they are there for viewing the ocean surroundings when on the surface, to protect the officers from the swell and spray. When the Submarine submerges the conning tower is filled with water and the pressure is the same inside to outside.

    • @dongately2817

I think they raised the sub just on the off chance someone could ever sneak a submersible in there. The Kursk carried nuclear weapons and the Russian Captains procedures for authorization and firing could have been discerned from the wreckage. Plus it was only in 100 meters of water so the warheads could have been retrieved if someone wanted them, and if they could get in without anyone knowing.

They found fragments of the Kursk's torpedo tube door the fat girl was in a short distance behind the wreck. It's what helped determine that it was an internal explosion from the practice torpedo that caused the live ones to blow simultaneously. Russia was taking a gamble using these very volatile torpedoes that no other country had been using for quite some time before the year 2000, a gamble which cost the lives of 118 sailors.

It may forge an existence as a producer of oil and gas for China in the next 100 years...with China's help....but the Russia that was once seen as the second most powerful country in the world is now finished thanks entirely to Putin.
