yeah I like that to. I'm getting so sick of a protagonist or however whoever is clearly stronger in a fight taking it easy on whoever else just to advance the plot and I'm not saying I don't love the triumph but still enough is enough, come up with an actual reason the character is holding back his power like it's been sealed or any valid excuse that fits the genre.
he literally had one fight with an opponent who could even scratch at his super op level and with two openings he didn't move in for the kill and in both instances, he was ready to actually end the battle to talk a little more. in every other instance, he was like a child crushing ants (notice the irony of an ant-creature crushing humans?) until he randomly changed his entire persona during his games and that fight.
Meruem is really something else. Not just a king by title, but a king of character development, going from monster to man, mirroring Gon's descent from man to monster.

I JUST REALIZED! Netero never used his right arm and left leg when he was playing get the ball against Killua and Gon for the very first time. It's fact, and Killua stated that. Netero looses his left arm and right leg when fighting Meruem and his right arm and left leg were the last ones remaining! Maybe Meruem noticed this detail and that's why he choose to take off those limbs first as they are Netero's dominant? Togashi is a genius.
Wouldn't it be the exact opposite? Meruem took off the less dominant limbs because those were easier to take? And that way Netero was giving Gon and Killua a bigger handicap by not using his dominant limbs.

Am I the only one that IMMEDIATELY thought of Cell from DBZ when I first saw Meruem? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the character, but there are just so many physical resemblances to Perfect Cell, most notably the fucking tail.
All of humanity should express gratitude to Netero by making statues of him worldwide and establishing international holidays on both his birthday and the day of his passing. Without his sacrifice, the king would have enslaved mankind. No amount of friendship BS power could something about it.
Ironically no, Netero alluded that to Meruem himself, he never stood a chance against humanity. Netero could barely scratch him, what got him is just a single low budget bomb that humanity produced by the thousands. He could've been ended at any time, it was just a matter of pissing off the humans hard enough, for we are capable of much more malice and destruction than the ants could ever compete with.

Very similar to Yu-Yu-Hakusho. If Yusuke's father just devoured souls instead of not doing so, he would of been a god. Same creator, so not surprising you see the same premise in both stories he has created.
He is already stronger than most of them in his basic form (and he easily beat Netero), after absorbing 2 royal guard, he is without a doubt the most powerful character in HxH (by far) so what's the point of being stronger when he can already crush everyone else? @@nzbg1132 yep, definitely HxH is one of best written series out there. Sure take your time, durarara is also one of my favorite. It has 2 season, and 2nd season it self has 3 cours (shou, ten, ketsu) Total 60 eps combined from all season. While monogatari is about 96 eps in total + 3 movies, but you need to do research before starting monogatari in order to watch them correctly.

Meruem's strength was his defence, his attack was probably on the same level as Netero, that's why he called Zero Hand "a magnificent attack", without mentioning for humans or something like that

So many never realized Meruem's a Specialist-Nen-User and overly-mature, contrary to his mothers belief. Hence the whole "I dont want you to be born yet!" and "Shut up. I'm born when i feel ready:' Situation. Meruem missed out on making his own Hatsu, and the same goes for many Fans. Missing out on the Fun.
By the end, Meruem's superiority in respect of humans (along with his experience with Komugi), paradoxically allowed him to transcend the basic drive for power and dominance that is the evil side of human nature. His experience with Komugi didn't change him cause "he found love", he found love because, through Komugi, he realized there is beauty to be found in the complexities and multifaceted deeps of humans. And this beauty is not defined by violence and brutal strenght. I don't recall the exact quotes or segments, but it is presented, in the story, the dilemma that maybe, because of this, he might represent a possible best ruler for humans. I mean, dictators and men of power in general don't t really care or see beauty in the weak or powerless, they're too busy trying to prove their dick is big. Meruem doesn' t have to: it is. Has he completed his journey when he met Netero? No, in fact, he still hasn't realized the value of every life, only exceptional ones. Which is why Netero is able to go through with the plan, although he feel doubts and esitations (I recall there's one moment when he thinks something like "This is not what I expected, I have to do this now, or I won't have the heart to see it through the end"). Still, Meruem was at the beginning of his journey, and we'll never know how far it would've taken him. Oh, well, I guess that's the tragedy of the chimera ant arcs. Humanity wins again, in the end.

Very similar to Yu-Yu-Hakusho. If Yusuke's father just devoured souls instead of not doing so, he would of been a god. Same creator, so not surprising you see the same premise in both stories he has created.

He is already stronger than most of them in his basic form (and he easily beat Netero), after absorbing 2 royal guard, he is without a doubt the most powerful character in HxH (by far) so what's the point of being stronger when he can already crush everyone else? He will be a moutain of nen, if he move a finger too fast and everyone will die

Sure take your time, durarara is also one of my favorite. It has 2 season, and 2nd season it self has 3 cours (shou, ten, ketsu)
Total 60 eps combined from all season.
While monogatari is about 96 eps in total + 3 movies, but you need to do research before starting monogatari in order to watch them correctly.

Meruem's strength was his defence, his attack was probably on the same level as Netero, that's why he called Zero Hand "a magnificent attack", without mentioning for humans or something like that
He ate a military hunk guy with nen so maybe he used that ability maybe that guy is just an ordinary enhancer

To this day Meruam is the only overpowered undefeatable villain that I've actually liked
So many never realized Meruem's a Specialist-Nen-User and overly-mature,
contrary to his mothers belief. Hence the whole "I dont want you to be born yet!" and "Shut up. I'm born
when i feel ready:' Situation.
Meruem missed out on making his own Hatsu, and the same goes for many Fans. Missing out on the Fun.
By the end, Meruem's superiority in respect of humans (along with his experience with Komugi), paradoxically allowed him to transcend the basic drive for power and dominance that is the evil side of human nature. His experience with Komugi didn't change him cause "he found love", he found love because, through Komugi, he realized there is beauty to be found in the complexities and multifaceted deeps of humans. And this beauty is not defined by violence and brutal strenght. I don't recall the exact quotes or segments, but it is presented, in the story, the dilemma that maybe, because of this, he might represent a possible best ruler for humans. I mean, dictators and men of power in general don't t really care or see beauty in the weak or powerless, they're too busy trying to prove their dick is big. Meruem doesn' t have to: it is. Has he completed his journey when he met Netero? No, in fact, he still hasn't realized the value of every life, only exceptional ones. Which is why Netero is able to go through with the plan, although he feel doubts and esitations (I recall there's one moment when he thinks something like "This is not what I expected, I have to do this now, or I won't have the heart to see it through the end"). Still, Meruem was at the beginning of his journey, and we'll never know how far it would've taken him.
Oh, well, I guess that's the tragedy of the chimera ant arcs. Humanity wins again, in the end.
