Don't count on it. The Israeli public health system does save lives, but when it comes to mental health it is as bad as in most of the West. There's is a three-months wait to see a Psychiatrist for five minutes, and the patient leaves with a prescription, usually for some of the cheaper SSRI's, that usually are inadequate and do not alleviate the condition in any way. This will have to change, however, because this war has caused a dramatic increase in the numbers of PTSD and related ailments sufferers, and something must be done in earnest.
Grateful she came along this compassionate woman. God bless them and the wonderful daughter. Hope that Lutfia received no victim-blaming or shaming from anyone in the family or her town.
It’s mentioned that she had had mental health issues in the past. It seems she had a breakdown of some kind. It’s actually more common with people who are traveling abroad, than many realize. The travel itself - being in such an unfamiliar environment, with regular routines disrupted- can have a triggering effect and bring on a mental health episode, even when the person wanted to travel and was doing fine beforehand. Sometimes it’s because they stop taking medication they’re on, like lithium, because of the side effects. Maybe that was the cause in this case. When people with bipolar disorder stop taking lithium they often have a manic episode and do impulsive things.
