It took my Dad 18 months to get home. He was serving down south in Italy and because of the heavy bombings all his family thought he was dead. I have a letter that his family sent through the Red Cross trying to find him but he only got it when he finally got home. Thank you Paul for your great effort putting Italian Week up. I have grown up hearing lots of stories from my Dad and Mum who both experienced a lot during that time. Great work from all your guests.

What an incredible presentation by Claudia! This is the first time I have heard about how the Italian civilians thought about the bombing of their country throughout the war. I highly recommend this show!

Paul/Claudia. Many thanks for another fantastic presentation highlighting Italy in WW2! Having watched this presentation, I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I wasn’t aware of the extensive bombing on mainland Italy. As with bombing, the civilians suffer. Such a shame. The world has not learnt when you consider the events currently happening in the Ukraine. Regards, Bob

excellent show: Dr. Baldoli is a superb Italian historian and speaker; I really enjoyed her presentation. Lots of information here in this gem of a show about the bombing of Italy and also the armistice with the Allies.

My village was bombed on 23rd august 1944. (Ponte San Martino, Aosta, by 340th BG USAAF) for many years people, think was an english bombing, who made the attack after a request from local partisans, the same history is repeated in many other towns on North Italy. I made a long research, i found order of missions, (the history was exposed at Duxford USAAF Museum, with B25), i wrote some books, but a part of population still considered partisans as guilty.

Some WWII have still some currency: the explosive toys scattered by allied aircraft, the lone renegade nigh pilot, etc.

    interesting
I agree, in fact the RSI airforce (ANR) wasn't connected to the RSI, basically they were pilots from the Regia Aeronautica that tried to defend Italy from the Allied invasion and bombing.
Same goes for the RSI but by land.
