Dude I love your channel! You deserve wayyy more subscribers. Awesome playing, tones, songwriting, and production. As a fellow believer and an old school metal head, your channel is a great find and a breath of fresh air. Keep up the excellent work my friend!
Thank you so much for the kind words Gabriel Hersey-Sanders!
bro i legit tried shazaming the song at the start not releasing you wrote it. I love it so much 🤘the video was really helpful aswell, going to buy some 9-42 nano web later this day. Great video
Thank you so much for the kind words @remiseminara!
Just got a set of optiweb 11-49 for an sg in drop c, love em. Came from NYXL 10-52 used since i bought the guitar. The string tension is perfect!
Awesome!! That's a win win, perfect string tension in drop C. NYXL's are great also, I am just really digging the Elixer's! Hope you love em as well!
Dang man you really caught my attention with your playing, you can clearly tell you put in the work to make some complicated chords and rhythms sound so clean and natural. And then you dropped lamentations on me I literally shouted with joy. I love finding gifted Believers, may the Lord bless you
Thank you so much for the kind words @nathanmena284!
Great vid, been watching your vids for quite a while, firstly with your EVH head comparisons for research and currently own a 5150 III 50w 6l6 & El34 and love my 6l6 as my main gig rig through a mesa traditional slant 4x12. Also a long term (@ 15 year) Elixir string user. My gig guitars are both Ibanez 2120xxv prestige models (one used only for gigs, one only for practice) with seymour duncan blackout pickups. Years ago I tried a lot of different string brands (all .009-.042) and at the top end of market the main difference for me was down to feel and longevity as the "tone" was minimal. I change strings between 3-4 gigs (4 hour "sweaty" gigs at the top end of humid Australia) and am a bit heavy on the trem stretches at times and never broken a string. The tone stays, they stretch/tune well and the feel stays constant. I prefer the nanoweb, I do not use "finger ease" or anything similar as I slide a lot when lead playing (slide as in finger movement not with a "slide" guitar style) and they detract from natural feel. For me, the Elixir nano are my favourite, great tone, perfect reliance for gigging and tone quality. My only recommendation is they may last for 10+ gigs but... for 4-5 they are perfectly reliable. Golden rule, never break a sting at a gig!!!!! Love your vids man, look forward to what you shoot next.
That is the best I've ever heard an ENGL sound
I just bought the Elixir 09/42 OPTIWEB guitar strings package with the acoustic string set. The acoustic strings feel and sound great!! I love them. I haven't tried the electric guitar strings yet and I'm thinking on using the 09/42 OTIWEB set on my EVH Standard guitar. Great review and thank you for the info!! Awesome guitar jam as well!!
Glad you love them @metalfreak4791! Thank you very much for the kind words!
Great content!!! Helped a lot !!! Keep the great work going and hope to see you at Million Sun mark 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Hey ESA Auto Solutions thank you so much for the kind words! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 🙏
Great playing!
Thank you so much for the kind words @alidalkus3853!
Hey dude, Thanks for the video.
just got a pack of 09/42 nanoweb.
Gonna try those on my Ltd mh-10.
T2-metalzone dist - MS-70cdr - RC-5 looper,
Much fun 😎
Awsome track btw 🤘
Is it me or does the elixir optiwebs feel more stiff/tigher? Was using nyxl 11-52 but when i used elixir 11-52( 11-14-18-32-42-52 mixed 2sets) i feel they are a bit stiff. Tuned to drop C.. might try a 10-52 opti
Not just you, me too! thinking the nano's are my favorite at this time,
I know most folks like 10s on Les Pauls but for the sake of trying it, I put 9s Nanoweb on a Les Paul Tribute. To me, it seems like a match made in Heaven. They sound and feel incredible. It seems to play effortlessly.
Excellent info @thomasrowan1235! Goes to show that trying something new can bring amazing results!
I restrung my strat with elixirs back in 2019 and the e string only broke yesterday. And I don't piss about either. I love two tone bends and play with thick picks.
LOL that's good stuff!!!
currently using nanowebs 11-49 on my ephiphone sg usually on low tunings like e flat, D standard, and up to B standard tunings my guess prolly will last around 6 months or more since i do play everyday for more than an hour usually
I'm using Nanoweb, last time I changed my strings was 3 years ago. They aren't rusted, they still have a good tone to them. I've only had to intonate them twice since putting them on, they don't sound dead yet. The coating is just now barely starting to peel underneath. Just barely. Strings will last a long time as long as you oil your fretboard and strings every 3 months or so with some lizard spit or some lemon oil/orange oil. I live in a high rain, high humidity area where regular strings like D'addarios would have corroded and rusted already, even with fretboard/string oiling and care. I picked up another pack of Elixirs 2 days ago. I'll probably change the strings after I break one of them or after I notice actual corrosion on the string. I can't believe they still have gloss and shine to them. If it were another brand like Ernie Ball or D'Addario they'd have corroded and broken already. I use to use D'Addario a lot, and I swore by them. But then after my experience with these strings I think these Elixirs are my go-to.
have u tried daddario xs?
I hate clicking all these reviews that are more into galloping off into random stuff before reviewing the dang product
Hey Brad, thank you so much for the feedback. I am learning and striving to provide better content. I just watched this video and agree that I could have dug in way sooner than I did. Are there any other areas that I can improve on for future videos? Thank you again, Eric
@@X9Eric I think you did fine honestly, the riffs and composition was pretty nice, but yeah maybe save that stuff for the middle or the end of the video
@@X9Ericjust do what you put in the title and thumbnail. do you not realise how annoying it is when you're trying to find consumer advice and you instead get a video that is 75% someone playing their own music and then a piecemeal review at the end?
Great job as always Eric. I think strings, after a certain level of construction are subjective like most anything else guitar related. I use Curt Mangan strings and have tried the Elixer also. Great strings and as usual it's personal preference. Thanks for the video man.
Thank you Eddie Lykins! Yes very subjective for sure! I love learning about what other players like and use. What are your thoughts on Elixirs and what made you choose Curt Mangan strings?
@@X9Eric, Sorry it took me so long to reply. I've been out of town working (to pay for my strings...lol) I like Mangan strings for the variety. Materials... Monel, Nickel, or Stainless...any gauge. They build you custom sets with any gauge you want including half steps..9.5, 10.5 etc, etc. So you can have equal tension if you want, cater to your body resonance if you are that detail oriented or fine tune to the pick-up resistance on a string by string basis as well as dealing with how each players amp responds. I tried the Elixers when they first came out and the coating peeled pretty quickly for me. I just had a bad taste and never went back.
@@X9Eric...Oh and let's go back to the materials. You can order a custom gauge of 3 different materials and have 3 totally different tones based only on the strings....it's a really cool tool to have if your pick ups are dynamic enough to play with that.
@@eddielykins LOL !! WOW Mangan strings sound awesome. I will check them out thank you for teaching me about them!
Thank you for your time and reminder to us all of how good the Lord is. 🤝🙏
Awesome playing as always Eric! I've been undecided between these strings so I went with the NANOWEB 9-42 For my RG565 Vampire Kiss, should be here is a few days. Thanks for doing this video!
Thank you so much Johnny Romero, means a lot coming form you! Awesome, let me know what you think! If you don't have it already the Nano's plus fast fret...... Unbelievable, forgot to mention that in the video.
@@X9Eric Yes! got's to have the fast fret to.
Can you make a metal/heavy distortion jam review on the OPTIWEB & NANOWEB strings? Thanks Brother!! New subsciber here!!
Hey cool intro.. I always use Elixir on my acoustic guitars. I have made crap acoustic guitars sound priceless with em lol..and they last for eternity. Looking at trying some for electric..thanks.
Hey thank you so much for the kinds words. Excellent feedback, thank you for sharing your experience. Please do and let me know your thoughts on them?
Barely see anyone posting from Lamentations, that’s a very heavy book of the Bible for sure! Right on man, praise God!
I bought my first set of 9-42 Nanowebs in the early 90s, I believe. I haven't bought anything but these sense. I like to play guitar, not maintain guitars. These last an insanely long time, even playing metal.
Yep. I've always had super sweaty hands that rot strings within hours.
I've always thought daddario make the best quality strings.
But elixir have the best coating and are good quality.
Tried daddario coated and the coating started to shed within a week.
Music sounded amazing.
ha ha thank you so much for the kind words @diegoriveira3579! Do you have a favorite Elixir string set?
@@X9Eric yeah, I think I use two sets:
1 set 9-42 optiweb on my Kiesel guitars
2 set 10-46 optiweb on my two strats
I wish there was a demonstration in sound just clean
Strumming the guitars unplugged IMHO the Nanos are dull sounding and the Optis are louder and a bit brighter on the wound strings. I can not hear a difference on the unwound i.e. smaller strings. I have also found the nanos to have more coating on the wound strings making them easier to play and very easy to slide, however after time the costing tends to peal where you pick. If you pick like a caveman like ME! ha ha
Hope that helps a wee bit. Try em I think you will like them!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I use Optiweb 9-42 on my 25.5" guitars and 10-46 on my 24.75" scale guitars. I use 9.5-44 on my 25" PRS, sadly Elixir doesn't offer that gauge so I have to go with D'addario or Ernie Ball. :(
Come on Elixir, give us a nice set of 9.5-44 please.
And 11 - 56 like D'Addario. Love them on my 24.75" scale guitar in Drop C and Drop B.
I'm considering elixir strings for the 1st time, but the bending thing worries me. So optiwebs are harder to bend, & nanowebs easier, yes?
yes, I really dig the Nanos more for ease of playing and doing vibrato bends. Hope that helps
Just tried Elixir 9 42 for the first time Optiweb, and yes, I can confirm they are stiffer for bending, so I will go for the Nano, as I tend to use lot of fast bending in solos.. for scales, arpeggios, sweeps, tapping, they feel so soft and easy, just the bending is a bit harder for me, comming from Ernie 9
Been using Nanoweb since 2010. Tried other sets but won't change from elixir. The tone and life you get out of them is unmatched as far as I've tested.
Nanowebs are my favorite Elixers! What are you running them on, and would love to earn what your favorite guitar?
@@X9Eric currently on my Ibanez SAS32FM. My PRS has d'addario coated strings on because they didn't have elixirs, but pretty happy with those so far.
i use elixer green pack
Do Nanowebs and Optiwebs have same plain strings or different?
Hey @petyapyatochkin9630, great question. I am not sure. I do not feel a difference.
Great vid! I'm my experience optiweb have LESS tension than nanoweb
Thank you so much @TropicalFuzz. Great feedback. I use Nanowebs exclusively now as I prefer having less tension,
i‘d rather see back to back soundtest straight to the point. But thanks for the effort :)
next time, thanks
Just subbed, the only thing I hate about these strings is they're expensive vs other strings, just got them for my leo jaymz lp copy (skull n bones graphic),after I pick it up from shop, came from amazon w the b and g string slots too low from the factory so I bought a pre cut bone nut and glued it and the string height is too high so took it to a shop I trust so it'll be ready in about a week
Totally agree @gearhead2017, pricy but I sure an in love with the nano's right now!
The Polyweb are terrible, coating feels thick and they peel from pick wear. Nanoweb are fantastic and are what I use. Haven't tried the Optiweb yet.
Thank you for sharing some feedback! Thinking at this time my fave is the Nano's,
Nanoweb 9.42❤️
Which one do you prefer? Nanoweb or optiweb ?
I’ve tried both, personally I prefer the nano webs, they feel and sound better to me
Hey M D music 21, Nanowebs, though I have found that the Optiwebs last longer. IMHO the Nanos have more coating on them, which when combined with GHS Fast Fret offer an incredible playing experience and is very easy on your fingers! Give em a whirl and let me know what you think?
the optiwabe last almost 1 year and 4 months playing great ............
How long did your nanoweb elixir last?
It varies, but in short, they last twice as long as other strings.
@@X9Eric maybe your nanowebs last 6 months buddy?
@yurijovanka5823 yeah, depends how much you play. I recently used up a set in one month doing some recording 😳. But on other strings I would have to change them out during the session.
But the main reason I like them is because of how much easier it is to slide on the wound strings! Hope that helps
Answer starts at 4:14
Thank you @ocelotl23. I like to talk and play ALOT. LOL
Genius idea to not have a segment with undistorted sound in a demo that's about the strings...
Next time,
Elixir optiweb is BY FAR best sounding clear string. Tried various EB slinky's, cobalts, Daddario NXL, Hgs Boomers, and others... gauges 9-46, 10-52... NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO ELIXIR. Thing is just that you haveto replace them often... afterall who the f* plays same strings for two months?😮😊
I dont think you shared any useful information on these strings, i think you spent more time playing guitar and talking about your guitars than the actual strings and the differences.
Hey The Real Michael Phelps what info were you hoping for?
@@X9Eric Whats the real differences between the strings....
