- We see the final cut of the first field at Plas Farm, Bancyfelin, Carmarthen (B&B here, lads) with DanYRheol's big John Deere 7950 and what looks like the John Deere 7810. The big Case 210, in the charge of Rhys, is waiting but he has to go to the next field. There he loses his trailer to Bobby, on the 7950,who wants it for the opening up.
Brilliant video again. You gotta love the use of independent brakes by the harvester driver!!
Thank you for the information on what the process is for. Doesn't matter to me if it's corn or maize, it's all the same thing, just wondering why it was all being harvested in that way.
excellent video alan
Don't know for sure - it was nearly a year ago. But it's usually October, and can run into November (it did last year).
Well, if you looked at a few more films and the comments you'd soon realise. First, it is not corn - it's Maize. Only Americans call it corn (Google it?) and in europe we all call it Maize or Mais or some such. Corn is a generic word for wheat, barley, oats etc.
Second, it's harvested this way to ensile it for feeding to cows in winter. you can feed just the grain but the leaf is useful as well and this way you get both. And they love it!
@stro1962 The blue barrels hold either an acid or biological silage additive help preserve the crop in the clamp faster. The both work for the same purpose but one type of additive is bacteria based & is better to use because it's not corrosive & doesn't give off nasty fumes. Preservatives help by protecting the ensiled crop in the early stages of fermentation when the crop is at risk.
amazing!
hi alan, nice vid.
it strikes me that all forage harvesters at your place have those blue barrels at the back.
I didn't encounter them here on the harvesters,so I wondered ,is there any difference in the breed of maize or something else.
have our first hail today, and a lot of rain with sleet.

It's an additive for helping fermentation. I've never asked why they don't in Holland - can you?

Right - quite determined wasn't it? Certainly got him round and in that quagmire I doubt if it did the tyres any harm!
she is a 7950 with an 8 row header so cant blame him pushing her when theres like 850hp behind her ;)
at 1:25, looks like he had the stick a little too far forward, showing off for the cameras maybe? ;)

Thanks Steve.
What the hell!
Huge machines!
I don't know maize.
Excuse me,Is it corn?
For humans or for animals?
Maize, or Mais, or Meiz is what it's called all over Europe in 10 different languages. Americans choose to call it corn. In Britain, corn is Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rye and any other grain crop.
Gonna ask a dumb question, but what is the purpose of harvesting corn this way?
Racing maize :O High speed.
@balmesh He was pretty determined!
