I’ve worked in the tech sector for over 15 years. These orgs rather hire a foreigner on a H1B visa than a black US citizen with comparable skill set. There’s no one talking frankly about this.

They are very well known for getting into management and then only hiring their own. How idiotic does our country have to be to not have laws against this and enforce them?
The question we all should be asking: As America becomes more diverse, why is it becoming harder to gain employment? Especially when there is a skills gap needing to be filled within the workforce? People already don't want to be bothered and now we are being encouraged to find a kind individual who is willing to help. This is just modern nepotism. He's already said these spaces are very insular and small. America is starting to treat employment like secret societies. Unfortunately, it's truly giving the unwanted truth: Racism.
Not racism. You can network yourself into these spaces. Some of these folks are looking for minorities. You have to make yourself visible. They’re not going to seek you out.
@@josephjohnson1057 They're only looking to fill that quota. That doesn't mean you'll be invited to the fight club. @@josephjohnson1057that heavily depends location. Racism is definitely full steam in some places more than others. These places who look for minorities you speak of only want to use them to say they aren’t racist. Why seek people you’re going to lay off? Black people are the first to be laid off, even with the same education level there is still a wage gap because for high positions white are chosen more than black. It’s the same with blacks hit with harder crimes compared to white. With all these things that are only a few on the list (not even getting into housing, the resource guarding) you mean to tell me you’re still going to claim no racism? Racism or not, it depends. All I know is near where I live, there are a very large number of brown-skinned tech workers at all levels, but they are not black. Most the tech workers around here aren't even white...most from India and China. They are the ones that are creating a new stronghold on who gets hired, etc.

Very good conversation. There is definitely a backlash across the board in all industries. Some school districts are re-re-naming schools after confederate soldiers/persons after removing these names. I think companies are caving under political pressure regarding diversity. There is a concerted effort to make some people believe that diversity/affirmative means that jobs are given to Black and Other People of Color just because.... i.e. they have no education or experience in that field. I agree with David that some entities don't want to do the work however there are some companies and institutions that don't want a diverse environment. They are missing out.

I told folks during pandemic. It was an emotional response to Floyd. Get it while you can, the sympathetic angle is fleeting.
Agreed. This country is performative... Pathetic.
Sympathy is easy and fleeting - empathy is hard and challenging. We never reached empathy ... hence, we're right back at the beginning... again.
Some of the hiring during this time was sketchy at best. Hiring could have been better during this time.

I’ve been networking with a 4.0, no luck.
Lots of folks w high GPA. Need to demonstrate how you can make them rich.
Focus on being an educated friendly like minded person that can make people money. GPA doesn't matter.
