Out of every movie or TV show I have ever witnessed in my entire life, Carol very well might have the absolute best character development I've ever seen. I especially love the relationship between her & Daryl. It's not defined as the very tired romantic relationship Hollywood constantly portrays, it's not defined as a BS steyotypical surrogate mother son relationship. The relationship is completely platonic & it's based off of simple friendship. The writers struck gold when it came to the interactions between these 2 characters!

I started watching the Walking Dead with my mom. All though I only seen 2 1/2 episodes of season 1 and watching clips from UA-cam, I can tell that Daryl and Carol cares about one another, even in the toughest of moments. I saw the clip of Daryl telling Carol he loves her before leaving, and that warmed my heart. The point I’m saying is I want them to start a romantic relationship, and spend the rest of their lives together. Even though they’re not a couple, I still ship them. Through everything. When she left, He felt abandoned all over again. The pain Norman Reedus was able to bring to the screen was amazing. It honestly hit me like a truck. Their dynamic was 1 of my favorite things about this show. Love me some 'Caryl'.
Their relationship goes far beyond friends, they have been fighting together for years. Daryl knows Carol's pain in not being able to be a mother in the long term, protecting her son, just as Carol knows Daryl's pain. Daryl doesn't touch other women like he touches Carol, the tight hug, wiping her tears, holding her chin... With Leah it was sex and a dog, with Connie it was just care, but with Carol it was respect, love, emotional support and loyalty. The feelings of both, especially Daryl's, evolve before our eyes, they don't stay together because it would be too painful if one of them died. I don't think there's any romantic desire here. Not just saying this because of the age gap, but it's more of a parent/child relationship. Carol lost a child and Daryl obviously has parental issues, so they were drawn together from those feelings. At the beginning of their relationship, neither of them were in a place where romance was an option. They became family and that's how their relationship is defined now.
