Brothers Quay - Eurydice 2007. 10.10.24. I should imagine the bros Quay would direct their oeuvre at uncultured oafs such as myself... I mean, they don't want to be preaching to the converted....
@@JJONNYREPPWell, it said at the beginning that it was made to celebrate a 400 hundred year old opera. That is a big clue in who it was intended for, though, it doesn't limit who may stumble upon it like Eurydice stepped upon the serpent that took her life. Orfeo's attempt to sway the mind of the unfeeling lord of the dead is a metaphor for all artistic expression. This is why the story has persisted for so long and is especially cherished by artists.
@@IIImobiusIII Brothers Quay - Eurydice 2007 0410am 11.10.24 it is intended for those who have ears to hear. or eyes to view this film. i listened to an interview they performed for BMI the other week. they seem to suggest they are given a synopsis or script and then cast it to the four corners, so to speak, allowing their imaginations to take over the running of the piece... a fact which i like immensely. artistic expression should fear no unflinching or unfeeling lord. as for stumbling through life coming upon things in a seeming random fashion - that also appeals to me. this is how i usually wander through life..........................................................(pause for effect) a large spiral of non events peppered with bits (art) and stuff (music) and nonsense (loch ness monster) which might take my fancy amidst the rattlings of b.s i am supposed to be attending to... one thing leads to the next etc etc etc... however vast the time it takes to instigate those other things..... or kindles some reference to other things - however obscure. i like bros quay (pronounced key in my household, no reflection on them or their moniker) and i enjoy their bits. i often feel them peering over my shoulder when i write as if censoring my obscure time to write (john cooper clark and some strange italian poet iterated something along those lines, not specifically pointing out bros quay as a point of reference, when he and his mate discussed poetry)... as for serpents. i have been bitten a number of times when walking on the moor. one will often find teeth marks in one's leg and suffer strange nausea. about as mighty as the serpent gets over here.... good luck!!!
Wow thank you for sharing this, just beautiful - how did you get it?? Some of the Quay's films are near-impossible to find, outside of the dvd collections.
If any art ever caught the sense of this Myth, it was this. Masterfully done. My heart aches for all who have lost what cannot be replaced.

This short is included on the Insitute Benjamenta DVD. Both films are beautiful, I love watching the Brothers Quay work with flesh and blood.
Very beautiful. But I didn’t see BROTHERS QUAY in the credits. What did they have to do with this film??
They were in the end credits.
