    Your pronunciation of Knepex is right on, however I can't say the same for your pronunciation of the Utica. I'm sure the folks from Utica, NY got a good laugh at your expense.

      I expect only us old guys knew how to say "Utica" correctly. I think they have
      been out of the tool business for quite some time but they used to be a major
      player.

      @@jswift1942 totally agree about Utica, but he also pronounces Knipex wrong too. It a German name and not a regularly used English word. Check out their videos, they do pronounce the K.

    Robogrip pliers work great for doing the things an adjustable wrench, or monkey wrenches would do. I've never even thought about using Robogrips as a pipe wrench.

    • @narutobroken

      Exactly, they are a replacement for those annoying adjustable crescent wrench

    There is nothing to compel appropriate, civil, even courteousness on the Internet, unlike standing in front of someone physically. Thus, it is doubly important to conduct oneself with civil courteousness. Just like giving your word is not very enforceable legally, but is even more important to keep once given. (Sorry if this is a shock to anyone, but I'm an old school great grandmother and feel it is somewhat of a responsibility to instruct/help those who do not apparently know these things. It is done with compassion.)

    There are some over-designed and underwhelming tools out there - like this Rigid. Channel Locks (especially the GL series) works really good. Knipex Cobra's are a more sophisticated version with more range, but the simplicity and the low cost of Channellocks are definitely excellent points.

    I mean, if you're gripping a pipe I suppose. I just used my RoboGrip to unscrew a stripped bolt with minimum force at all. Bending odd shapes, pulling etc I think RoboGrip is a 1000X more versatile tool, I'm not a fan of unit-taskers.

    No inadequacy your a very good tool reviewer. I also believe you know how to use the tools. Where the heck do you find the rare tools that you show? Like the ones you showed in the Knipex wrench pliers video.

      Thank you for your comment, I spent years hunting around flea markets and such and I've always had an eye for tools. Always needed to save money by buying used which is nice because then you get exposed to all sorts of tools you never knew existed.

    The Knipex Cobras work like the Channel Locks. There are videos out there with people standing on them while gripping a pipe fixture. At the price I guess they should. Channel Locks are hard to beat.

    • @Marcel_Germann
      @Marcel_Germann 6 років тому +1

      The Knipex Cobras are overpriced in the US, I suppose it's the shipping and customs. Here in Germany you pay 20€ for them, that are 25 US$. And the german price already includes a VAT of 19%.
      Channellocks are hard to get here, but if you get them they've the same price as Knipex here.

      I think a lot of these hand tool companies should learn some lessons from DeWalt and Snap-on on how to sell tools internationally I see so many videos in non-english speaking countries using DeWalt tools now it is surprising. The same goes for Snap-on I was watching some non-english video and they were using a DeWalt cordless impact wrench with a Snap-On socket.

    • @Marcel_Germann
      @Marcel_Germann 6 років тому +2

      Getting DeWalt here is absolutely no problem. Milwaukee too. The plumber which lives in my street here uses DeWalt. I use Makita or Bosch.
      Knipex is a family owned company founded in 1882, they have 1900 employees worldwide (including subsidaries like Rennsteig, Orbis Will. It was founded by Carl Gustav Putsch, and now the head is Ralf Putsch. 1200 are working in their production plant in Wuppertal, and they only have this single plant and all pliers are made there. So I think it's the same size as Klein Tools, which are now trying to come over here. But it's a bit bumpy for them, trying to sell wirestrippers with AWG-sizes here is not very smart. The wire sizes here are the cross-sectional area of the conductor in mm². That systems advantage is that it not making differences between solid, stranded and fine-stranded wires in case of the wire sizing. So it's much simpler for an electrician, because you now 2.5mm² can be fused with 20A under these condictions and 2.5 is 2.5 not matter if stranded or solid (for comparison: AWG 12 has a csa of 2.6mm²). The AWG system contains too much information which is useless for electricians and is only useful for the cable manufacturer. And it's not open to future production methods. But back to the tool manufacturers, some american manufacturers haven't understand that there are other standards in other parts of the world. They have to accept them if they want to successfully sell their products there. And some have understood this, like DeWalt for example. But not DeWalt alone, DeWalt is a subsidary of the Stanley Black&Decker company since 2010. And you can get Stanley tools here too. Take a look at the acquisitions:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Black_%26_Decker
      Knipex Plant:
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Luftansicht_Knipex_Wuppertal.jpg
      They even have their own museum:
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/Knipex-Museum.jpg
      And it's all about distribution. You need a distribution grid in your market. This sometimes lead to cooperations between different manufacturers. Between S&W and Walther for example. S&W can use the distribution grid of Walther in Europe, and Walther can use the distribution grid of S&W in America.

      So true, I wanted to try some Klein screwdrivers, everyone saying that for the price they are awesome, yet the price here in europe skyrockets into an awful lot of money, to a point were even wiha and wera are cheaper

      You're right, the Klein screwdrivers are very expensive here. Except the set of slimline insulated screwdrivers, but they make them here in Europe and they don't sell them over in the US. And for insulated slimline screwdrivers the price is acceptable, slimline are always more expensive than standard insulated screwdrivers. They look like a set of insulated screwdrivers which are made by Hazet, except for the colours.
      www.kleintools.de/catalog/screwdriver-sets/5-teiliges-set-mit-isolierten-schraubendrehern-nach-vde
      Hazet, but these are not slimline:

    I hope you don't think I was upset. I was not upset, and I'm sorry if it seemed that would be the case.
    Everyone is making mistakes, and I made the exactly same mistake too. And I've ruined finish, and I was very angry on myself making that mistake. I tried to prevent you from making the same mistake. Who says he never made a mistake is lying. The thing is you can not only learn from your own mistakes, you can also learn from mistakes of others. It's really annoying when you try to make something and damage it because of the wrong usage of a tool, and I tried to prevent it by telling you that this is the wrong way.
    The other method would be letting someone "run into the open knife" and let him see for himself what he makes wrong, but then you would be upset because you've damaged something.
    All I wanted is an exchange of experiences. Not to annoy someone! I'm still learning many things here on youtube (actually everyone is learning during his whole life), and I want to give something back and share my personal experiences. I think it's not a matter of intelligence, it's a matter of experience.
    Ok, the Ridgids are not self-locking. Sometimes it's a bit hard to explain something in a foreign language. That was my fault, I normally use Knipex which are self-locking (even the automatic I've shown you in the comment on the other video) onto the object:
    ua-cam.com/video/dTL38C1Nhg0/v-deo.html
    The Cobra pliers are very common here, they've got a good price/value ratio. You pay here round about 20€ for the 250mm version, that are round about 25 US$.
    And by the way: Thank you for your videos! Keep up the good work!

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  6 років тому +1

      I did not mean to call you out and disrespect. I genuinely appreciate your comments because they are well thought out and detailed, and the fact that you live in Germany means you are a valuable resource for my channel for information.
      I was making the video to properly correct myself as well as correct obviously incorrect usage information. Because the previous video had received a few views I thought it was more effective to make a correction video with a small comparison rather than delete and redo the previous video.
      I genuinely was using those pliers backwards but still surprising that you have to keep pressure on them and self-locking is a good description of them there just happens to be trade-offs between how well something locks and how versatile the tool is. That's why the cobras and channel locks work really well but have less range then the robo grips for the same weight and size of tool.
      Thank you so much and please keep up the good comments.

    I’m not a fan of Robo Grips you are right you do have to put a lot more pressure whenever you’re turning something with them which isn’t good I’ll take a regular pair of Channel Locks over Robo Grips any day plus Robo Grips cost more money.

    I have the Husky version of those robogrips, and I honestly think they kinda suck. Though it could be due to user error and the fact that they’ve seen tons of use before I found them abandoned in an empty house, my impression is that they look far meaner than they actually are lol. Still a fun tool to play with though.

      I would be considered a jack-of-all-trades.

    "u-TICK-uh"? Its not "YOO-tuh-kuh"? Utica, NY? how do they prounounce their city name? My RoboGrips are Craftsman U.S.A. wouldn't use them for that type of application on metal pipe, where I think they excel is where you need better than hand grip on strange round things like plastic landscape and plumbing fittings especially when working with different sizes of tubes, since-they auto-size instead of having to re-channel them.

    Leave it to a group of lazy, apathetic Homers to defend a tool that doesn't even work! If these Armchair Complainers Knew Channellock was founded in 1886 by a guy (George B. DeArment) who began hand-forging farrier's tools and selling them from town to town out of the back of a wagon that he would later sell when he ran out of tools, they wouldn't even own a pair of Rigid pliers!
