    My family has been in the US very long, and have slowly lost many traditions that were a big part of family life when I was a kid in the 50's. Thank you for reminding me of how I loved those traditions.

    Loved this Karencita, it brought back happy memories of Christmas in Mexico. I remember the amazing nacimientos people had in their homes, and they would invite you to come over and see them. Some of them were so big and filled with all kinds of details, and you can only imagine all the work that went into making them. Here where I live in southern California, there is a lot of Mexican influence and you can experience some of the Mexican Christmas customs. For example, la Placita Olvera in downtown L.A., would have a huge, larger than life nacimiento in the central kiosk, really beautiful. They also celebrate the 8 night of Las Posadas there. Some people organize posadas in their homes or neighborhoods. I'm a musician, and I know all the beautiful Posadas music ("entren santos peregrinos" etc.) and have had the pleasure of participating in many posadas, and there was always a piñata ("dale dale dale, no pierdas el tino"). And champurrado of course! Muchas gracias Karencita por este lindo video! Feliz Navidad!

    This is great content, I'm in my sixties (Georgia) and this is the first time I've heard about this topic. I have lived in Germany in the past and some celebrations are similar, i.e Christmas eve being the big day. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    Love it! I didn’t know about the maratón Guadeloupe Reyes! I love the idea of that tradition. I was lucky enough to witness the Cabalgata de Reyes in Madrid a few years ago. It was such a beautiful tradition that I had no idea existed until my son performed in it. Didn’t know half the world celebrates the Día de Reyes!

    This is a wonderful explanation of Christmas in Mexico. I've come to really enjoy spending Christmas season in Mexico. I was in Guanajuato the first week of Jan in 2019 and loved how the panaderías had little personal roscas de reyes. Christmas is so special and so much more spiritual in Mexico :) I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Año Nuevo!

      I agree with you that Christmas is more spiritual in Mexico. In the U.S. it is spiritual for some people, but has become so commercialized. And many people don't even say "Merry Christmas" anymore, but "Happy Holidays".

    • @stephanielucas8203
      @stephanielucas8203 2 роки тому +2

      @@margaritakleinman5701 just to be clear, I don't have any issue with folks saying "Happy Holidays" 😊 as there are other non-Christian holidays this time of year. When I mentioned "spiritual," I didn't mean necessarily Christian, but focused on reflection, family, fellowship, and beauty - and not material things.

    I visited a Catholic church in McAllen, Texas (near Reynosa, Tamaulipas) a few years ago in December, and remember seeing a lot of piniatas (even in the Christmas tree) and wondering about that! I also saw a lot of nochebuenas....I didn't realize those were indigenous to Mexico. As always, thank you for your video!

    Lovely video!! I moved to the US from Mexico when I was 10, thank you for your lovely video reminding me of Christmas in Mexico! I never realized just HOW MUCH Catholicism and religion played a role in the celebrations. Makes me wonder about people who are not part of Christianity and how they feel about Christmas in Mexico 🤔 just a thought!

      I wasn't raised Catholic and I'm not Catholic. I didn't celebrate La virgen de Guadalupe and I would go to Posadas just because it was fun.
      My mother would let us celebrate día de Reyes Magos because nothing related to Catholicism was involved.
      I should've mentioned that in the video. Thanks for watching.

    Yes a Guadalajara Christmas for me, you are mistaken, in Europe it starts December 1st (advent) and finishes on the "12th day of Christmas" the difference is most people in Europe are not religious anymore, and in UK many churches are closed or are nightclubs/discos, the German Christmas markets last for a whole month

    The smell of the the fruit piñatas is one I just can’t forget. I remember they would fill them with limas, jicama, sugar cane, tejocotes, oranges, mandarins, and peanuts. I really miss going to posadas since where I live here in the US they just aren’t very common.

    AWESOME VID BUT I THINK ITS SO KRAZY THAT SO MANY PPL ARE BRAINWASHED TO BELIEVE THE MEANING OF XMAS WAS CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST WHEN IN FACT HE WAS'NT EVEN BORN IN DEC.. THE REAL JESUS IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN BORN BETWEEN SPRING & FALL & THE ORIGINAL REAL CELEBRATION WAS A PAGAN ONE CELEBRATING THE WINTER SOLSTICE..
