I really like the music and the anime... Toshizo Hijikata is a beautiful character!!!
Some more historical information: Hijikata Toshizō (土方 歳三?, May 31, 1835 -- June 20, 1869) was the vice-commander of Shinsengumi, a great swordsman and a talented Japanese military leader who resisted the Meiji Restoration.
In the anime Chizuru is the heroine of the series. She comes to Kyoto in search of her missing father, Kodo Yukimura, a practioner of Western medicine. Unknown to Chizuru, her father under orders from the Shogunate develops the Water of Life, an elixir that increases the drinker's healing abilities, speed, and strength yet could turn the drinker into a mindless killing monster called a Rasetsu. At the beginning of the series, she witnesses a fight between Rasetsu and members of the Shinsengumi. The Shinsengumi take her into custody and, once learning she is the daughter of the doctor they are searching for, decide to keep her close at hand. Chizuru follows the Shinsengumi in their battles to help the shogunate. Chizuru has a secret unknown to herself: she is in fact a pureblood member of the Oni Ichizoku (the Demon Clan), and the head of the Oni of the East is of Yukimura descent. Because Oni have scattered and declined in numbers over the centuries, Chikage Kazama seeks her out to create a lineage of pureblooded Oni.
Hijikata is the Vice-commander of the Shinsengumi and makes most of the Shinsengumi's decisions. He is called Oni-fukuchou (Demon Vice-commander) and is both feared and respected by his men. He is also often referred to as "Toshi". Hijikata is the one who brought Chizuru back to the Shinsengumi headquarters. He is responsible for her welfare, and even though he acts as if this were to his dismay, he cares for Chizuru's safety and is often shown protecting her during battles. In the last episodes he declares his love to Chizuru.
Hijikata drinks the Water of Life and becomes a Rasetsu in order to defeat Chikage. - Фільми й анімація
And Chizuru is now alone. her father, brother, friends died just to keep her safe and happy, but they didn't realize they made her hate herself and left her alone

That is so true now she has no one and is alone. I was so mad and sad when basically everyone died in the anime.

this was a beautiful tribute to these two. Made me almost cry this was so sad but a beautiful couple. Chizuru and Hajikata.

YES FUCKING PERFECT!! LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I love Hakuoki and Within Temptation! Since day 1've shipped Chizuru and Hijikata. Sure he was rough around the edges but he warmed up to Chizuru and eventually risked his life for her. I admit I cried every time these two had their moments together. During the final episode of season two, ugh so many fucking feels. Hijikata had been so focus on his work, it took him a long time to finally acknowledge Chizuru's feelings and vow to always stay by his side. That right there is loyalty even when she knew she would be sacrificing herself. She did it for the man she loves. She didn't care he was a "Fury" because she was worried about him rather than herself. PURE GOLD!

I choose to believe that Hjikata is alive. I see compelling evidence either way, but him being alive makes me happy. Therefore I will continue to live in my happy (*maybe*) delusion :)

He was alive in the anime version too, just more ambiguous. If you look at his red injury on his face when he got shot and fell off the horse and look at it again when he was lying on her lap, notice it was completely gone? There are a lot of hints that indicate he's alive.

I just finished Hijikata's happy ending route. Even like this, the story is soooo sad :'( so tragic! I wanted to play to Hakuouki SSL to cheer me up but they didn't translate it in english :(

it's hard to did'nt cry when we watch the video
i know i’m hella late cus this anime game out 10 yrs ago but hijikata doesn’t die in the end :) came back to this edit cus it was what got me into hakuoki but in the game, at the end of his route, hijikata lives after killing kazama. though, his lifespan obviously decreased, the game ends with chizuru and hijikata sitting underneath a cherry blossom tree discussing abt their future and abt how they want more time together. none less, i still cried like a baby watching this and playing the game haha

I never did understand the ending of the anime is he alive or did he die?? I’m like so confused and even after watching it twice I still can’t figure out if he’s alive or dead. I’ve watched this video idk how many times before and yet I still don’t know if he’s alive or not so can someone please tell me if he’s alive or not bc I really enjoyed this anime it was one of the first ones I watched when I first started anime and I knew from the very beginning that they had feelings for each other bc it was obvious at least to me it was bc I’m a huge fan of romance and this was a great series but the ending really confused me. this anime is based on real history with fantasy spice, according to the history of Shinsengumi, Hijikata and all of Shinsengumi's members are died except for Saito and Shinpachi, but Saito and shinpachi left shinsengumi and died in old age.
