The EX30 was hyped to the roof by Volvo. It’s actually a pretty awful EV. We paid the deposit , took the test drive and immediately asked for the deposit back. I have real concerns for the Kia EV3 as well, lots of hype, silly prices and the only spec worth considering in the GTS but even demands more for money for an optional heat pump !!! Looking the EU spec the UK spec is pathetic and plain daylight robbery.
Its a shame that the World isn't full of Ecomentalists with money to buy and trade this lot between themselves. The rest of us will buy sensible cars that fit our everyday needs.
Most people are not aware of the fact that the advancements of the ICE design is maxed out aside from the many inherent flaws of the design that cannot be re-engineered out, there's just not much more to do with it On the other hand, Electric motors have plenty of room to advance Battery and electricity storage technologies are limitless To dissuade EVs is so unlogical
The technology and efficiency of manufacture is improving so quickly, reducing cost while improving quality, it's impacting resale value. Reminds me of PCs and smart phones.
A colleague has an uncle who has a Corsa EV which should do 180 miles, it took him 11 hrs to go from Congleton to Birmingham in the winter. He didn’t dare go past Hilton Park services, he was at 30 miles range but there was 5 cars waiting to charge so he had to wait getting increasingly irate as he missed a pre booked meal with rest of his party and his wife giving him grief. Every days a school day.
I don’t get your point. It’s simple supply and demand. The manufacturers made too many and are trying to get rid in ways that aren’t optimum economic decisions. End of the day consumers don’t have to buy if they don’t want to. The price will be the price when the buyer thinks he is getting a satisfactory deal.
no, what they are doing is registering the car (looks like a sale but isn't as it sits in their lockup) - this 'sale' goes toward the shitty gvt quota - they then sell it used with little to zero miles to a real customer at a cut price because it is cheaper than fines from the gvt. the point being made is this is absurd behaviour and bad for the industry, however it is even worse for the private buyer market as the 'new' 2nd hand prices are being slaughtered thus anybody trying to sell ICE or 2nd hand ev are f'ed out of value that they should hold. Take that 22 model car going for 15k - i don't want an ev but that is tempting, and when i came to sell it i would sell for even less thus degrading the market further.
Some major dealers will have to go out of business in a blaze of publicity before the government will even consider u-turning on the fines policy - if even then. And that would really blow a hole in their netzero policy.
The only message I am hearing is that you recommend holding off buying a used vehicle because there is about to be a glut of cheaper cars on the way? I'm so confused 🤔
I’ve had Toyota hybrids that have averaged 300k + Never had issues with either apart from service consumables in the states they are well in excess of 500k … if hybrids were inferior they wouldn’t be do popular .. my brothers 2010 Audi a5 needs a new box at 100k ?
Similar thoughts...If I really were to buy an a 2nd hand EV, say 6 years old with 70k miles, I'd tell them to give me £3-4k towards the replacement battery it would need in 4 to 7 years. In effect I might give them £1k in total, as the car minus the battery has some value! But then I probably wouldn't pay anything as I have no way of charging at home and would want the £1k towards using charge stations/coffees and doughnuts.
I'm not sure I understand your point. Surely massive depreciation is good for the secondhand buyer which most of us are. Most ordinary people don't buy new, so EVs are now a bargain. Brilliant news.
So ... People who have access to a driveway and solar panels ... can afford to virtue signal with their second car. People who would buy small cars don't have a driveway and can't afford premium charging. More reverse Robin Hood.
Tesla has you by the balls and you have no clue, Cost price lol, sure all business gives away after sales service, it shows how little you know about business, they have to make money to stay in business to be there for you. Keep Dreaming.
In the future, in order for dealers to get around the rules, they will register all EVs on the first of December, then sell them to another dealer who will deregister them a month later for "export". These cars will then take a short trip outside the country and then come back as "new" cars. In this way, they will only lose on handling costs, which will be less than the depreciation of the cars. What do you think? Is that a possible scenario?
We have this car situation because the media, UA-camrs like you and Geoff and the Macmaster relentlessly give negative press to EVs then wonder why the market is in turmoil. Much of what is happening is because big oil is trying to protect its own position. Finally list prices are in absolute fantasyland, so when they are later sold at what was a fair price in the first place it gets highlighted as if it’s bad depreciation. The market is indeed effed up.
Although everything you have said about EV pre-registered sales is correct - the same is true of many ICE cars as well; SMMT are lying about ALL car sales, not just EVs. BTW; the crossed arms signals a defensive posture; so why are you feeling so defensive?

Love the honest review, it’s a mucked up market where more transparency is needed so we all know what’s happening.

Many thanks for a very balanced thoughtful discussion
I noticed on auto trader no photos on new EV cars. Thanks for the info. Interesting stuff. Hope the next year ahead goes well for you.
thank you for that, i think it is going to be very bad next year, and i am taking the opportunity to work less and enjoy life more

It should be freedom of choice
Exactly... if the Govt is forcing or bribing you its a Bad Thing.
What you say is spot on. If Iwere to buy a new car I would want the latest reg.
brand new MG MG4 £25k 0-60 in 3.77 secs or £20900 for a standard model
0 -60 in 3.77 seconds and you still have speed limits and people that drive slow. go back to the funfair.

How much is that EV over there?
It's free, were giving them away.

I’ve been saying this for months, if you think it’s bad now wait till after the budget. EV prices are going to tank, new and used.
The cost of EVs is just too high across the board. Without subsidies they are simply not an attractive buy.

Why are electric Audis keeping their price so well?
TESLA has no EV dealers. There is a big hint on how to do it. The manufacturer also does the after sales service at COST price.

Just sell EVs at a reasonable price at the start.
They would have to change the VIN.

Barrie tried to like the video dut it won't register and says likes is N/A is somebody having a go? 👍🇬🇧
Yes if you can charge at home...but 50% odd can't so as much as a superior technology an ev is it's just not going to happen for the masses
Great content. But please a lot louder really struggling here.
Good points but your video are just too long and boring, as a potential buyer of an EV its clearly good new for me.
then you havent got my point, buy one if you want to lose a fortune
