Time Definites or “TDs” refer to a type of service offered by FedEx Express where a customer pays a premium to ensure that a package that they ship gets delivered by a time corresponding to service that they purchase.
For example, if someone purchases FedEx Standard Overnight, the package is guaranteed to be delivered by 10:30 a.m. the next morning. If not, the customer is entitled to a full refund of the shipping cost.
If a contractor has a package to be delivered that has a guaranteed delivery deadline, like 10:30 a.m.,the package or the stop is then referred to as a Time-Definite package or stop.
FedEx Ground will be getting these packages from FedEx Express as part of the merger of the two companies. FedEx is combining the operations in an effort to become more efficient, which ultimately results in significant savings for the company. The name for the project is Network 2.0. FedEx executives announced the project nearly 2 years ago. The project is said to take another 3+ years to complete.
This initiative is of tremendous importance to the company. It eliminates redundant stops made by 2 different FedEx branded trucks at the same stop, among other things. It will combine the linehaul networks and combine operations under one roof.
If the people of FedEX can come together to make this happen, what is now FedEx Ground will benefit greatly from the new organization. This will ultimately provide higher settlements for contractors as well as higher wages for contractor’s drivers.
Not only will the addition of “TDs” increase obvious things like revenue, but it will also create the need for many more contractors. This will provide opportunities for BCs to become contractors and drivers to become BCs as the FedEx companies continue to be combined.
Ground will not only grow through the movement of Express packages to ground, but as the combination of the companies lowers costs, FedEx will be able to become much more competitive from a pricing standpoint. This means it will be able to win business from competitors like UPS and the Postal service that it cannot compete on today.
The sky is the limit for FedEx’s growth, and the growth of all its people for the foreseeable future as FedEx’s ultimate goal is to be the WORLD’s largest transportation company!
