  • In this powerful video, we explore one of the most iconic speeches in history - Winston Churchill's "This Was Their Finest Hour" address to the British people in the House of Commons during World War II.     During the Battle of France (10 May - 25 June 1940), the German invasion of France and the Low Countries during WWII that led to the evacuation of British and French forces from Dunkirk, Winston Churchill gave three speeches in the House of Commons.
    The first was "Blood, toil, tears and sweat" speech on the 13th May 1940. The second was "We shall fight on the beaches" speech on the 4th June. "This was their finest hour" was the third of three speeches during this period.
    The speech, delivered to the Commons at 3:49 pm, lasted 36 minutes. Churchill revised his 23-page typescript up to and during the speech.
