- Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has pledged to bring relations with Malaysia to greater heights, when he takes over as Prime Minister next week. Mr Wong hosted breakfast for Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim, who is in Singapore for his first overseas state visit since he ascended the throne. In the afternoon, Sultan Ibrahim visited the Singapore Parliament, which is in session. Later in the day, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat took Sultan Ibrahim and Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah for an MRT ride on the Thomson-East Coast Line.

In secondary school in the 1980s, I learned history of Singapore and I think Singapore once belonged to the Johor Sultanate. The British bought Singapore for 10000 of currency and the rest is history. Singapore might be just an unknown part of Johor and history of Singapore would have been so different now.

Johor consumer products are not cheap but due to the triple exchange rate ppl from SG cross over to shop and save more just like ppl from MY cross the border to earn more salary.

Imported consumer goods are priced in USD. I go to Malaysia regularly and was shocked the coffee and meals are so expensive due to inflation. If you think you can buy 3 cups of coffee in MY compared to 1 in SG, then you’re gonna be shocked.
On the other hand, working in SG earns you not only a higher wage compared to MY but also a stronger SGD compared to MYR. That’s why I say Johor wished they are part of Singapore 😂
