Rhaenys was watching Rhaenyra this whole episode because she wanted to see how she was going to handle being Queen. Her smiles throughout the episode slowly got bigger and bigger because she was seeing exactly what she wanted to. She was seeing Rhaenyra be calm, collected, intelligent, and strategic. She was also taking charge, and unlike Alicent, Rhaenyra wasn't playing by the men's rules.
Rhaenys is wildly loyal to her husband, so she wasn't kneeling or bowing because without Corlys, she wasn't going to make the decision to support Rhaenyra.
I'm team Black for the simple fact that Rhaenyra is Viserys' chosen heir. I understand Alicent and have sympathy for her, but regardless of what she thinks Viserys meant, Otto and the Green Council were going to usurp and murder Rhaenyra all along and that's where I can't even give an inch.
As for the childbirth, Aemma told us in the very first episode that the birthing bed was the woman's battlefield. It's also something Rhaenyra, although she absolutely adores her children, is terrified of. And in this moment all of her fears seem to be coming true. Her father is dead, her brother has usurped her crown, and now she could die birthing a stillborn child.
She gets that baby out because if she doesn't it means death for her.
I always find it so interesting that as a society we get so grossed out by childbirth but can watch beheadings and battles without the blink of an eye.
Agreed on all points. I will add though, it would be totally wrong for Rhaenys to bend the knee to Rhaenyra without Corlys. Corlys is the head of her house and she has to follow him (outwardly). Even if she wasn't loyal I don't think she would have done it cos it's not her place to do it. It would be like Daemon declaring war without Rhaenyra. It's not his place while she's head of their house.

I know right… then they say who’s the other dragon flying off as they miss so many details lol Even complaining how Rhaenys didn’t nuke the greens previously, but didn’t listen to her reasoning why she didn’t. I’d say Rhaenys looked at Rhaenyra with an unspoken pride leading as a woman not led by the patriarchy which was why she looked at her like she did and when talking to Corlys swung him towards Rhaenyra. I mean I got all this first watch… these guys just talk for the sake of it rather than just react to what they see
I had a stillbirth at 24 weeks and you bet your a$$ I held my son. For four hours. The nurses were forced to take him because of hospital policy after that. That's the only time I will ever hold that child. Once I let him go he was gone forever. It may seem weird, morbid, or gross to you, but that was my child. I felt Rhaenera's pain here. I felt it hard.

this is so funny. aemma said "the childbed is our battlefield" in episode one. men have no problem seeing war, people getting brutally killed, etc. but god forbid showing the struggle of women going through childbirth while being put under brutal circumstances.
I'm a woman and i work in the medical feild i've seen all kinds of surgeries and also childbirth and even i was horrified by that scean and had to look away when i didn't during Aemma's gruesome birth it has nothing to do with gender like you seem to beleive this wasn't a normal childbirth the girl was deformed with scales and a tail just like a dragon

I’ve seen lots of reactions to this episode and it’s funny to note the differences in mens and womens reaction to the miscarriage scene. 😂 Its a sad tragedy for us but it’s mostly a horror scene for the men.

Both dragons felt their rider’s core and emotions. Vhagar was chaotic and aggressive as reflected by Aemond’s lust for vengeance, Arrax was scared and stressed out mirroring how Luke was feeling, not to mention the effects of bad weather on the dragon pup. RIP Luke and Arrax😢
Arrax & Luke learned the more you fuck around, eventually you find out.
I don’t get why people keep repeating this headcanon. Probably because they heard someone say it with confidence and went “That sounds right”. But no, the whole point of the scene is that the wants of the dragons and their dragonriders were not in synch when they disobeyed them. Vhagar was playing with Arrax just like Aemond wanted until it got a face full of flames, then it got aggressive and Aemond didn’t want that. Similarly, Arrax got aggressive when it was being chased and Luke didn’t want that.

Rhaenys can't bend the knee because she's not the representative of Driftmark or House Velaryon, Corlys is. She's just his wife, so she can't decide for him if they're on board + Rhaenyra said she was hoping for their support because Corlys was coming to Dragonstone.
And let's try to stay civil and nice with subjects like childbirth and miscarriages. Like yes it's gross but let's try to think and not say disgusting things like "Don't touch it, it's already dead" 🤝

It’s amusing to see how different most men and women react to the birth scene, most women either cry or get teary eyes and are genuinely sad for her, they see loss and a suffering mother.
While most men find that disgusting, the scene is disturbing for sure, but the difference is most men find it disturbing cause it disgusts them while most women find it disturbing because it’s too sad to see.
Gents - I hope y’all never have to experience your spouse or partner birthing a stillborn baby and then remember you calling it a freak. Yes it’s a fictional show but real women experience this daily, some of those women watch your channel.

The dragon Daemon was singing to is Vermithor, a 100 year old dragon, 2nd biggest dragon after Vaghar, it used to be King Jaehaerys dragon ( King Viserys and princess Rhaenys grandfather we see in the first episode intro )
What Aemond has in the eye is a sapphire, its his personal sigil, Aegon's is a naked woman and Halaena's is a spider :)

I hate the label people paint that Targaryens are mad because of that stupid line the show reiterated and people took it way too literal. Out of over 100 Targaryens, I could count on one hand how many were mad. Just like other houses. Starks had crazy rulers too as did other houses.
Well to be fair, the majority of the Targaryens prevalent in GoT went mad, and at least a few in this show aren’t quite right in the head. For people who’ve only really watched the shows, yes a very large portion of Targaryens are mad. We don’t see the hundred others that aren’t on screen

The third dragon flying away from Dragonstone was Rhaenys going to secure The Gullet. The dragon Daemon went to see was the old king Jaherys's.

So I have the same favorite Targaryen as George R.R. Martin. So what? He creates these characters. His favorite dragon is Balerion which would be my favorite dragon as well. Tyrion Lannister was his favorite from Game of Thrones who was also my favorite. Well, at least up to S4.
Among book readers, Viserys I is not exactly regarded a good king. In fact , many readers blame him for the civil war breaking out. But Paddy added so much layers to him that he raised the character's stock from the TV show. Paddy truly deserves an Emmy.
There is a Blu-ray version that will add some deleted scenes. I believe once this Blu-ray version is out, this longer cut should be the only version that HBO should keep re-airing. The version we just watched is the Make-Daemon-A-Demon cut.
Sick and tired of HBO writers trying to dirty GRRM's favorite Targ that Matt Smith has to come up with improv to prevent them from assassinating his character. I'm aware Daemon isn't good but at least give him a fair shake and stop insulting his fans thinking we are all morons.

You might find it interesting that the birth scene was actually toned down a bit. According to the source material, and an early edit of the episode this child was a lot more deformed, covered in scales and with wings just like a dragon. Not the only time a Targaryen woman had a still birth/miscarriage in the history of the family. i.e. that's how Danny's child with Drogo supposedly looked. A lot of lore fans consider this clues that Targaryens, or all Valeryan dragonriders are capable of bonding with dragons because they LITERALLY have some blood of dragons in them. In HotD before Alicent remodeled the Red Keap almost every single room and corridor was decorated with depictions of orgies, and some show humans and dragons doing it together.

teamdaemon because he is the only one who knows that the hightowers have been the problem from the beginning he told his brother I will take care of anyone but his brother I never trust him and there is the result that is what I like about daemon's character because that he can be good or bad with anyone but the only thing that matters to him is his family and he does everything possible to protect them

I died laughing! Welcome to child birth guys lol. They lucky the show puts on at least a few breaks and doesn't show the faeces as pressure and pushing cause the mother to lose control of her bowels. Or the tearing from vagina to anus that can sometimes happen. On the good side medicine has come a long way from those times and the births shown in the show are the ones that go wrong. Show didn't bother to show Rhaenyra's other perfectly fine 5 other births afterall.

Swearing 'fealty' to a HIGHER Lord is a BIG DEAL. The Senior Lord (in this case the Crown itself) actually OWNS your land and can give control of it away to someone else should they chose. This how the Tyrells became the Lords of the Reach and why the House of Hoare (Harrenhal) no longer even exists. If Rhaenyra wins her battle for the Iron Throne, all those that went against her stand to lose both their lands and their lives (usually just the Senior Lord/Lady and their families). Plus the 'Baratheons' are related to the Targaryens by blood, which is why the Queen didn't think her son would be in any danger.
RIP LUCERYS, and arrax was still a baby dragon.. 😢😢😢😢 was like wtf when daemon choked rhaenyra 😂😂😂 but at the same time I think he just doesn’t want her to be as weak as her father. Viserys is too nice to the point where he doesn’t even have a backbone anymore 😢 and I think rhaenys didnt bend the knee yet because she has to answer to corlys 1st the head of house velaryon. I wish they showed that Daemon likes being with with commonfolks I wish they emphasized on his other nickname; such as why he is called Lord flea bottom, prince of the city... obv. he prefers them than sitting with the small council. Also with the job of Master of laws and coin he wasn't that bad he was just not good enough and not suitable but for the commander of the city what he was just the right person, a job with actions I wish they showed the context of what he was doing, going right into it made nonbook readers misunderstand & think he was just out there dismembering people, wish they showed or pointed out that there were no gold cloaks, daemon invented it, they were just soldiers or guards of the city considered as a nobody, there were crimes & the city was quite chaotic especially since passing of the good queen Alyssane, but daemon organized'em, gave them a purpose made a name for them, it was quite brutal yes but as corlys said necessary, even viserys, hence, crimes decreased people love daemon for it.

I agree with how the pacing was sometimes too quick or slow. Hopefully we get more with the characters. Wish we had more interactions like Rhaenyra with her half siblings or the children.

The Tullys and the Freys aren’t related. The Freys are just a vassal house of The Tullys, who are Lord Paramount of The Trident.
Lord Lyman Beesbury was the Master of Coin that Criston Cole killed. Old Maester Mellos died and his apprentice Maester Orwyle from the earlier episodes replaced him.

I think if Daemon ordered Blood and Cheese 100 times, he would still be the most popular. Daemon can bring Rhea Royce back from the dead 100 times and kill her in 100 different ways and he would still be the most popular. He's everyone's favorite Targaryen rock star.
Daemon could do what Rhaenys did killing hundreds of innocent people in the Dragonpit 100 times and he'll still be the most popular. He can snap his finger like Thanos wearing the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half the universe and he'll still be the most popular.
What's his appeal? He's an alpha. He's a charismatic badass and antihero. Maybe Sara Hess only dated nerds or beta males. But lots of women are attracted to bad boys. Look at Scott Peterson, a wife-killer like Daemon. He got tons of love letters and marriage proposals. Same with Charles Manson when he was still alive.

Think about this for a moment. Vhagar (the largest dragon), Caraxes (the most ferocious dragon), Aemond (the most badass Green), and Daemon (the most badass Black) all crash into a body of water. And among those 4, only Daemon might have come out of it ALIVE!!
That's GOAT-level. I can't think of any character from any popular franchise who exits a show as BADASS as that. Not even Iron Man and Darth Vader exited a franchise as cool as that. 😎

Maybe we will get Alicent and Ottos reaction to Aemond killing Luc but they might skip the reaction. I think it’s unfortunate. It would have been cool to see a bit of that juxtaposed with Rhaenyras reaction to Daemon telling her about Lucs death. That’s a lost opportunity to me.
I think we will see Daemoms daughter claim the big dragon Daemom was singing to. That’s Vermithor- the second biggest dragon to Vhagar
I wish they showed that Daemon likes being with with commonfolks I wish they emphasized on his other nickname; such as why he is called Lord flea bottom, prince of the city... obv. he prefers them than sitting with the small council. Also with the job of Master of laws and coin he wasn't that bad he was just not good enough and not suitable but for the commander of the city what he was just the right person, a job with actions I wish they showed the context of what he was doing, going right into it made nonbook readers misunderstand & think he was just out there dismembering people, wish they showed or pointed out that there were no gold cloaks, daemon invented it, they were just soldiers or guards of the city considered as a nobody, there were crimes & the city was quite chaotic especially since passing of the good queen Alyssane, but daemon organized'em, gave them a purpose made a name for them, it was quite brutal yes but as corlys said necessary, even viserys, hence, crimes decreased people love daemon for it.
Ofc other things such as deleting lots of scenes of daemon that reveals his redeeming side, for no good reason, they only show his rogue side

I feel like the birthing scene this episode was just for shock value, the other ones were bad but didn't feel like they were just there to shock you. I still really liked this season though, so just a small complaint.
@Bla Bla I like it from a story point but it was a little gratuitous. As an audience member I already understand the emotion and severity of a stillbirth as well as the significance of it in the story. I don't need it to be that graphic.
