I have one of the best memory with my dad listening to this song in his truck when I was young. Lenny Kravitz made my dad move and get loose, always! My father passed away two days ago and tears are coming down my eyes listening to this song Thank You Lenny!
I have the same memories man, my dad used to hear this song on his Beetle and he always loved Lenny. Unfortunaly he'd also passed away last year... i miss him so much, but listening this song i can feel happy again remembering my dad.
You know how when you first hear a song that you love, you play it so much that it gets old really quick? The chorus loses its catchiness and so on. Well for whatever reason, I’ve never gotten tired of this song, ever. I can listen to that chorus forever. One of the few songs I can say that about.
I think it doesn't get old because of it's simplicity. The sound editing on the vocal track is subtle enough to not make it sound very edited, but it gives it that extra edge, and he also uses a very relaxed and controlled voice, it's not so show-off-y... And the added vocals on 'yeah yeah yeah' are just perfect.
My Brother passed away at age 30 when I was in Middle School. This song reminds me of him so much. It came out a couple months before he passed and he played it all the time in his truck. Sweet memories!!!
Came back to this after i went to fill up my gas tank and listend to this song at the counter. Reminds me of the music class when i played the guitar riff of this song.
This video reminds me of exactly the 80s parties we used to throw man nothing like it. Nothing will ever be like it. If I could go back there, I would never leave all other people from the 80s. You know what I’m talking about.
@fez! lmfao. The riff is literally just strumming power chords. It can barely even be called a riff. The vocal melody and harmonies are what make this song.
My childhood. One of the most iconic songs of the 90s, just so free spirited. I think about it all the time when I really don't like the situation I'm in, and it gives me optimism. I don't like my job, I want to get away, and I will fly away someday.
Everything about this song is just flat out perfect. The riffs, the lyrics, the video, everything. You can feel this song if you're angry, sad, happy, anything. Applies to almost any mood. Lenny Kravitz is one of the most underrated rockstars of our time.

I actually produced this music video. What a fun job that was! We shot for two long days in the ballroom of an old Los Angeles hotel. I can’t recall the name. The dimly lit room and the one main source-light throughout the video, is as a result of us not having enough money in our budget to properly light the entire room. It was very large and would have taken too many lights and manpower to properly light the entire room. Director Paul Hunter, had the brilliant idea of placing one light on our film camera along with minimal lights in the background (yes, we shot in 35mm back then). This would mimic a home VHS film shoot and serve as the eye of a voyeur. The vertical, tri-colored lines were added during the edit and served to enhance the overall psychedelic feel of the video. (Harvey White was our editor and happens to be Mega-Director Hype Williams’ cousin) Back then, I produced about 200 videos over a seven year period and this was definitely in my top three most enjoyable and satisfying jobs (projects). Now I produce mostly big-box commercials. Man, I was so lucky...
J L Not really. It wasn’t Lenny’s crew. The record company hired the director (Paul Hunter), and I used to produce 95% of his videos out of the production company (HSI Productions). They give us a finite budget and we had to work within that amount. In this case, we didn’t have enough to light the entire room, since that would have probably cost about $40-50k additional, when you factor in the extra grips (+3 guys) and electricians (+3 guys) and two extra days of work for them to help set-up and strike the lights and monstrous amount of electrical cable, the day before and after the shoot. These guys make about $600 for a ten hour work day. Add payroll taxes and overtime and each person eventually costs about $1100-$1200 per day (we’d typically work 14-16 hours). And, we already had six electricians and six grips working. Oh, we’d also have to pay for the location rental and parking (big $$ in downtown Los Angeles) for an extra two days if we did this and downtown locations tend to be very expensive. This was actually pretty common budgeting on videos back then. Rap acts like Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott would spend tons of cash on their videos and acts like Deftones and U2, would wisely spend less. Maybe they didn’t need the publicity to sell records? Anyway, that’s what happened. I know about the budgets for the above names, because at one time or another, I produced music videos for them. I actually recall a conversation with Busta Rhymes, when I suggested that he spend less on his next video. I don’t recall if he took my advice. @Ryan Marvees actual yikes
Cause Lenny is an equal opportunity plagiarist. He steals a little something from everybody instead of just "covering" songs outright, like the artists who've done "voodoo child", until Hendrix is rolling over in his grave. :~(
*Forever 90's* 🐐
Forever 70's!
Something nice about when UA-cam recommends a great song you haven't heard in years.
thats right friend
yes it is nice I'm with you
Lenny needs to perform fully at the NFL Super Bowl and the AFL Grand Final!
Yes
This is a hell of a song and that looks like a hell of a party!
Free concert in Boston, October 15, 1998! AMAZING!

I was there
This was a song to take a nice ride to
Cindy Blackman on drums. Wow. She is gooooooood.
Great song.
This is his signature song for sure.
man they dont make music like this no more
Nope
He knew that when he grew up listening to Hendrix =9
No they don’t
I ask cause I'm not sure, do anybody make real shit any more?
Claude Booyzen I wish they did, I miss the good old days too! I think everyone does. All of the people who make music today really don’t know how to make music!
I love this song so much.
Ok
I love music again
For eternity
Me too
I agree to u mr.ssibarl^^
When I was a kid I remember my neighbor playing this on his boom box for the whole street to hear and now I’m sleeping on the same street tonight before I go to rehab. Via Santa Maria. Bless the Diaz family.

That party looks like the ultimate vibe.
Lenny can write and perform a great rock song. This would have been a hit in the 60's and every subsequent decade.
