@tekodoraudor Decibels are not measured in a linear scale, but it’s based on orders of magnitude. 10dB is ten times louder than 0dB, and 20dB is about 100x louder than 0dB. 30dB is about 1000x louder than 0dB, and so on. I might not have been completely accurate about a sperm whale being 200x louder (can’t remember how I ended up with that number), but there’s an extreme difference between 220dB and 230dB. Sperm whales are said to be able to signal to each other from two different parts of the world, however, perceived sound has a saying too, as well as the effects water has on sound.
For example, a baby’s cry is about 110dB, which is half the dB of a rocket launch. Knowing how much louder a rocket launch is compared to a baby, you can imagine the difference 10dB makes when it’s up in the 220-230dB levels.

Which is amusing because their whaling industry survives off of subsidies, it isn't even profitable. They kill them just to kill them while selling the meat to a market that has very little demand for whale meat because it is part of their "culture."
