- Made by ear listening each channel of the .vgm file separately and transcribing it to midi.
BTW, this was made with Genny VST. FL Studio version has note bending support and vibrato, wich makes it a bit easir to achieve a more closer sound to the vgm file. Thanks to the dev. Have a look:

you forgot the noise, and the lead from the second part sound longer than usual, but its 100% apart from that

Hi! It's a free YM2612 VST called Genny. The link it's on the description. You can import the instruments from the soundfile.
What soundfont did you used?
I need a Sonic soundfont, but the ones I downloaded sounded muffled, what can you reccomend me?
I didnt use a soundfont. You can find the link to the vst in the description.
How did you get the Sonic 1/Sonic 2 drums? I have Genny, but I can't find the drums anywhere. I can only find the Sonic 3 & Knuckles drums.
i think he used samples for the drums. I use them and in genny as you are saying there are only Sonic 3 & Knuckles drums. So i think you have to search for those

What instrument is channel 1?
Which Genny version are you using?
I can't remember. I was using an older beta version before. I don't know if this project uses the old one or the latest 1.16 for FL Studio.

If you have access to Genny, try importing the Special Stage vgm file, that will give you all the FM instruments that music used

They're not in the initial presets. I'll post a link with the presets for genny.
Maybe it's late to answer, but there is a trick in Genny that allows you to import a vgm file and get its instruments
