Wow… I’ve been working in the 3D industry since 2010 and seeing illustrator turning a flat image into a 3 dimensional object is blowing my mind right now. This is insane

why though? There is absolutely no need for Illustrator to be able to do this. Instead it would be great if they would overhaul some of their other features that have stayed the same for 15 years. If I want to use 3D, I want to have control over what exactly i'm doing. This feature in illustrator only scratches the surface of what's possible. I guess instead of improving on their software, they'd rather add useless features that look cool in a tutorial
@@TheGodlike300 its very useful for a quick mock up though
@@TheGodlike300 because it can allow graphic designers who don't have extensive knowledge of 3D software to make a nice work with mock ups. 3D modelling and graphic design are two different subjects and lead to different jobs. A graphic designer doesn't have to know 3D modelling software, but they have to know Ai and having a way to make simple 3D mock ups is really useful.
@@EllyseaAndDolls I get where you are coming from, but imo there are better tools for simple 3D like spline. Sure, if it's built into Illustrator it's an advantage, but it can't hurt to learn a little bit more than the core Adobe programs (Blender is free and beginner friendly). That wasn't even my point though.. They can add whatever they want but the fact is that the core features of Illustrator are not improving. Many people I know switched to Figma for simple vector work (which I wouldn't since Figma is missing some features too). But what does Adobe do to combat the fact they're being overtaken by other companies? Buy the company and add 3D to Illustrator..
woah! I've been using Illustrator for over 15 years and that was one of the most exciting and well put together tutorials I've seen. It's really amazing how fast technology is advancing.

Yeah right, I'm familiar with this tool when they introduced it but it has evolved a lot. Its really amazing.
15 and 12 years? Very inspiring. I am new and have been wanting to learn Illustrator for quite some time. I have let intimidation get the best of me. But hopefully no more. Glad to see experienced users on here. That’s very impressive. Curious to know how you all made objects look three dimensional without these new features? I could only imagine the creative use of features and technique you’ve developed to do so.
I made this in about 2-3 hours. As a newbie to Illustrator, being able to accomplish this really boosted my confidence in my ability to use the Illustrator. I appreciate this tutorial and after having watched it a few times to correct my errors, I now see how I can accomplish this effect quickly. Thanks for sharing this.

Neither did any of us! That's because the tool was introduced in the newest Illustrator Update of 2022 :)

This is the 2nd video of yours which has come my way - loved it! Thanks! Just one thing - at the end, when I added the blush on the cheeks, the black from the gradients left white "halos" on the cube. To remedy that, on the black end of the gradient slider...I gave the black 0% opacity - worked like a charm!!! I'm relatively new at this- and I never realized I could work with separate entities, making each with its own 3D parameters! THANKS so much for the lesson!!!! I really enjoy your videos!

Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! I'm working with Illustrator 2020, and seems there aren't much options in that version... at least pretty much all the 3D options you use for givin the sushi a three-dimensional texture. I need to have your version, or I can do the same even with an older one? How can I make the same shape, brightness of your model? Thanks!

Yes. Take direct selection tool and select the element where you want to change the color and change it
