It's nice to see someone that adds a bit of reality to the troubles encountered in DIY stuff. You should be proud of the results, Thanks for showing all. If you are still concerned about not having a larger reservoir for the urine you can empty the smaller unit manually into the larger bottle that you can store behind. For a small amount of effort, you gain a larger capacity plus you get a visual of your capacity every time you use it. No chance of overfilling. Stay true and keep positive.
Gorilla hot glue a little dab of that would’ve kept that wood on their while glue dried … Best DIY composting toilet I’ve seen yet !
BTW, you can replace the bucket handle with a narrow rope or paracord handle.
Awesome job
Awesome
I finished my toilet 3 weeks ago and it is fantastic another thing I thought of is u take a bottom half of a real toilet use that of a night stand. Also onine since I'm using only a 5 gal bucket I have a bucket lid with a handle that seals the stink in pine pellets cat litter pinesol will keep stink down just throw the bag out couldn't be easier but your design is great beats spending a 1000 dollar.
Great turn out! Are you using a bag with cat litter for #2's in the bucket? I'm researching now as I'll be needing a dry toilet option in a few months.
From what I've found, if you use a drying component like litter, wood shavings, sawdust or pellets in the bottom then covering solids when done, you can get a 2-3 days with no smell before tossing the bag even without a vent fan.
The detergent bottle is a great idea!! I'd suggest getting a second one so you never get caught with overflow between dumps.
Thanks for the video:)
You did a great job! You are amazingly creative!
This has been 9 months ago so you may have this all figured out by now but you could run the urine hose under your RV into a small 5 or 10 gal tank or into your gray tank. Then you wouldn't need to dump your urine bottle everyday. Plus urine can be poured on the dirt, grass, on trees just add a little water to the urine to keep the urine acids from being to strong for the plants. This is good fertilizer for the plants. Also urine is sterile nothing in it is harmful to our environment or us humans. So dumping just the urine is pretty easy and safe. I wouldn't dump it in the middle of Walmart parking lot but in the city/counties across the USA there are water grates for flooding in parking lots and on the side of the roads where you can dump gray water or urine tank. Urine tanks can be poured urine just about anywhere with in reason dirt, grass, woods, things like that is fine or just dump the tank into any toilet. Dumping a urine tank won't be a problem.
You will find using a urine tank or your gray tank under you RV is a lot more convenient then a little pee jug.
Best Wishes
Ps you did a Great job on building the toilet it looks really good and I like that its not big and bulky like a lot of diy compost toilets most are a big bulky box your is nice and sleek to looks more like a regular toilet.
Great Job 👍 👍
Great! Thanks for sharing!
Door skin is cheap and flexible as well. And you can seal it with paint or varnish.
I'm not saying anything bad about your build but I i think I have a good idea for a toilet you get a reg bowl from homedepot 39 dollars you put a fan where tank goes to ventilate then use a bowl inside and bag u do #1 and 2 then seal up bag and dispose of or use diverter and short enough bucket.
Most people don't have the space but u could make 2 haves one side 1 other side number 2 I built a toilet out of a bed frame I found in the trash only with one bucket for 1 & 2 I'll have a 5 gal urinal diverter and cranks not needed
That is aa attractive as a homemade composting toilet ca be. Good job.
Looks good. I’m glad you showed your struggles and how you worked through the process. I will need to figure out how to add a bigger urine collecting jug. Thanks again for posting.
Thank you! As long as you make a bigger base there will be more room for a container. Or tall enough to do an external container and use a tube to connect it. I didn't plan enough ahead lol
I like ur DIY compost toilet.
That's what you needed to do was make your toilet taller if you're not a short person I'm making my own for real cheap but I think my idea of using a reg porcelain bowl is genius but I haven't built one so but I like your video I think I responded already but good luck with your own build
If you wanted to use the flooring now, you could just glue it over the wood slats around the outer side of your toilet. It would also finish it off. ???
All that work just to make a comfortable seat. Just line the rim with some foam conduit and the bucket can double as a seat instead of taking up all that space.
Hi there wondering how your diverter is working out now that you've had a chance to use it for a while. I tried a similar set up and found urine misses the collector some of the time. wondering how yours does?
I feel your pain! I have been re building a 1960-something Bedford Bus out for the past 4-5 years!!! On my own- no experience but am finding I am building EVERY part of it- 3 TIMES before satisfied with result! LOL ! Youre doing amazing! Just think- "next time around" you'll only need to make once? ... lol. I'll keep keeping on if you do. Deal? Love and respect from australia from one frustrated female to another
Also it looks great! :-)
You could have the cap on cut a hole it then you could see when it was full and prevent spills or find clear container but I give u lot of credit if u had when to engineering school it would have been easier. But good job cudos to u.
This is actually the best looking one I have seen. How is it working?
Thank you! Unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to test it out, but I'm sure it'll work just perfect after practicing a little aiming lol
I bought the same urine diverter and absolutely hated it. As a female is was so hard for me to use it. I ended up giving in and buying the kildwick klassic and I am so happy I did. I hope yours works out for you
Oh I totally missed this comment! I still haven't tried it, but thank for the feedback. Hopefully it works ok for me 🤞
@Samantha Nash, was that the regular size or the larger one? I just bought the larger one for mine. I haven’t built it yet.
@@theresahartman7465 it was his newest one I’m not sure the size
That turned out amazing in the end! Did you vent/fan it at all? I'd love to make a composting toilet that I could remove from a shower space when I wanted to shower, but then I probably couldn't use a fan.
Thanks! No I didn't vent it. My intentions were to just empty it every day (or after a #2 lol) and just use it as a glorified bucket. That would've worked fine for me since I would always be near an option to dispose it, and it wouldn't be sitting in the rv for any amount of time.
@@TheDiariesofDevin gotcha! I want to eventually convert a school bus once I can find the right bus to buy and I'm trying to avoid paying for a Nature's Head toilet and I think your video got me one step closer so thanks!
Does it work ok no smell, I'm thinking of doing same thing in my airstream.
Since there's no venting, it would probably smell if not cleaned often. I can't comment personally, cuz I have yet to use mine. But I was planning on emptying it after every one or two uses, plus it's small so it wouldn't hold much anyway.
