The HJC i100 is a worthy modular option for your next ride. It uses an advanced Polycarbonate Composite shell with a chinbar that rotates fully out of the way. Additional features include an HJC's Advanced Channeling Ventilation System, a removable/washable interior, eyeglass grooves, and a rapid shield ratchet design. The HJC i100 can be upgraded with a HJ-36 face shield Pinlock for anti-fog, and it is ready to accept Sena's Smart HJC 10B and 20B. (Pinlock and Bluetooth units sold separately).

My review: The materials feel high quality. At a speed of 60 km/h there is a lot of wind and noise inside the helmet, even though all the air ducts are closed

My wife got stuck riding 50 kms with the chin strap half way up her face because the mechanism jammed. I got it fixed, it kept doing it. Took the mechanisms apart and made sure they were synced properly, then one of the plastic parts broke. I had to take both sides apart so she could even use it, half way into our last road trip.

Good morning, what is the best modular helmet? The HJC i100 or Scorpion Exo-tech? Thanks

Are the visors all the same size for the different shell sizes?

Watch out !!! The hole or placeholder in the motorcycle helmet may not be deep enough for speakers. For example, when installing the SENA 30K in the HJC i 100 helmet. The loudspeaker is approx. 2 mm above the cut-out, the edge causes unpleasant pain on the auricles. The padding is a joke and is even more bulky. So how do I get the hole deeper? If I cut out the plastic at the cut-out and push the polystyrene deeper, I lose the possibility of gluing the speaker there. Almost nothing sticks to polystyrene crumbs. Pouring out might be possible, but with what? Styrofoam doesn't like chemicals!

      Duct tape the foam

Both mine and my wife's helmets have noticeably compromised foam in the removeable liner. We both get pain at the top, front of our head due to pressure from the hard molding.

I had the same issues with the HJC I90. Front of my head way to hard and tight, very uncomfortable. Seems like the I100 has the same issue.....

I went onto the European HJC website and on there it says its ece 22.06 compliant. I don't know if they're selling different helmets in the US and EU or if its just a cost saving measure to not get the US helmets ECE certified. I really liked the concept but I won't buy a helmet that isn't ECE certified.

I asked this question regarding the RPHA 91, and was told the following:
"The RPHA 91 sold in the USA does not mention ECE 22.06 because it is not recognized in the US.
      The US recognizes DOT only.
      The European version is ECE.
There are slight differences in the helmet due to the different safety modules...
The shell is almost exactly the same, there might be slight differences in vent placement or thickness in EPS in certain areas."
I wouldn't be surprised if the same applies to the i100.

    Is DOT only bad?

    • @shadesXL1220
      @shadesXL1220 5 місяців тому

Short answer no, long answer yes. So I'll start by saying that yes it is a bad thing to be DOT only. A DOT designation just basically means that the manufacturer has done their own in house testing and said yeah we believe in this helmet and it will probably keep you safe. Looking for helmets that say ECE 22.06 OR 22.05 it's going to be a much safer option since it is tested by an independent third party.
Now, I will say that a DOT only designation isn't necessarily a bad thing. Massive helmet makers like HJC, Arai, Bell, Scorpion, and a few others sell helmets globally. They would not stake their reputation on a sub-par helmet. I own two HJC helmets. My i70 is a DOT only helmet and the build quality feels on par with my RPHA 11(a racing and track ready helmet) which is rated ECE-22.05. Both helmets feel solidly built with the only difference being material and features on the RPHA 11 giving it the extra bump to the ECE designation. Hope that helps.

It is the same ECE 22.06 compliant helmet everywhere but in USA HJC only advertises the out dated dinosaur DOT which is really stupid and probably loses them some sales over there.
