- Betty Boop's Rise to Fame is a 1934 Fleischer Studios animated short film, starring Betty Boop.
In a live action sequence, a reporter interviewing Max Fleischer asks him about Betty Boop. Max obligingly draws Betty "out of the inkwell" and asks her to perform a couple of numbers. Song and dance numbers from Stopping the Show, Betty Boop's Bamboo Isle, and The Old Man of the Mountain are used. In the end, Betty jumps back into the inkwell, accidentally splashing ink into the reporter's face.
Directors: Dave Fleischer, Myron Waldman (uncredited)
Stars: Cab Calloway, Dave Fleischer, Max Fleischer
It’s so cute how she calls her creator “Uncle Max”
Mya Jones I agree. You’d never see Mickey call Walt uncle Walt!
Ikr! It’s literally hilarious and soooooo cute how they have a great bond
*Not If you knew that she's actually a black woman!*
She first appeared as a Black Woman in Popeye on shore leave.
She was then presented as a poor black woman until she got popular.
This is what this about.
They changed her to a white woman. The same as they did "TOM and JERRY". Both was black before they became hits.
Both really being instant hits once revealed.
@@lonniedobbins778 Betty boop was originally a dog. I think Tom and Jerry were originally white men as well

PSYCH!
Tom and Jerry started from Jeremiah Cat and mouse. The black woman the owner of the cat.
Betty started as a Black Native Dancer in Popeye movies. No Name.
Deadpool WISHES he could break the fourth wall like Betty does.
Ikr
Lol
I can almost imagine him having a Who Framed Roger Rabbit Style scene with her.
did the pencil have a butt
yep and it was shaking it
Yes the pencil have a butt butt
Yes
pencil got more booty than me 😂
at what time?
My dad showed this cartoon to my sister and me when we were children, we looooooved it so much. We are French, the cartoon was in English with no subtitles. Now I am an adult and i better understand what's happening! Hope my future children will like this cartoon just like me
I'm a native English speaker and I can't even understand the entire "Stopping the Show" bit, so that is very impressive to me. Kudos to you lol
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS EPISODE!
Ive been looking for it for the longest, saw It only once years ago and didn't know the name of it.
The clarity is awesome.
The Old Man dancing with Betty has always been one of my favorite Betty Boop moments.
It's a compilation cartoon: segments from 3 cartoons, put together with a linking story. This method was used for the WB cartoons TV specials, which were then re-edited and shown as regular cartoons on the weekly "Bugs Bunny Show".
Crazy to think this was made before computers and animated software
💋 pure talent and patience. I love you Betty Boop.
Anything with Cab Calloway is an instant hit. His music was and still is fire 🔥
8:22 "Come on. Jump. Jump quick."
Such compelling voice acting...
7:34 Those Dancing Skills Though 👌👌👌💯💯💯💯
7:33 sounds familiar. Like from Nightmare before christmas. Hmmm......
Rhythmloid yeah I noticed that!
HOLY CRAP IT DOES
That's because this is where the inspiration for that scene in Nightmare came from.
Thats is cab calloway music no??
- InspiredByWalter - same
She is so cute especially at 2:00 when was he gets a lift from a pen and she is like real
Jesus Christ.... 1934...People think that UA-cam is old or for example Gangnam Style is an old, dead meme/joke/funny and catchy video...Noone is intrested in it anymore but
Betty Boop...Now THAT is old..Just do the math...83 freaking years!!! You can't stop appreciating it's style.
Giorgio Devez 😻😻😙😚👑
Mia McCarthy your grandma is right
Sooo Betty’s like 99..... WOW SHES OLD!?
Micky mouse is 90 years old
@@Merrispees AUGUST 9TH 2019 BETTY BOOP WILL BE 89 YEARS YOUNG.
This was my favorite Betty Boob cartoon!
*Really?*
BETTY BOOB ? Her name is BETTY BOOP and yes BETTY BOOP does have boobs. L.M.A.O. L.O.L..
Considering the entertainment people get out of this, there are some things that stand out like mild perverted moments and stranger danger moments with men and Betty. She's 16 years old in the old series, keep that in mind
It's the 1930's. Standards were different. Not to mention being 16 isnt going to keep men from looking at you. You look like and are a woman by that point.
She's 16?
This is a little disturbing now
Betty was never meant to be a teenager. She was always a young woman, in her 20s. Even in "Minnie the Moocher", where she lives with her parents, it's because back then, most women didn't move out until they were married.
OofusTwillip actually according to the creators of Betty boop she is in fact only 16
her age was changed a lot which is weird as hell
Ai think she went back to being permanently 16 tho
This episode was a special short film of Dave Fleischer and the reporter they talked to betty boop's.
That was actually MAX FLEISCHER himself.
This must've been so sophisticated to make back in the day
I wish i could tell BETTY BOOP that she is a Beautiful and talented girl.
The 4th wall was groundbreaking. They were really ahead of they time. For the great depression, they really pulled it off.
Fleischer were breaking the fourth wall with the Koko Out of the Inkwell cartoons in 1919.
People would lose their mind over that Indian bit if that was released now a days.
As they should. People then just didnt realize insensitive they were being.
Or the darkening of her skin to make fun of the Hawaiian culture.
Independent women who are pretty are unwelcome in that cult anyway.
@@kixxenwalla167 She didn't made fun though. She was just 100% in the character.Iknow being detailed and in love what you do is evil nowadays.
You ever see the whole cartoon of her dancing on the beach?
Max and Dave fliescher for life!💖
The tv industry is grateful for the creation of the clip show here.
used to watch this on vhs as a kid
In the 1940's I had whooping cough , while my sister had scarlet fever. We were under quarentee in our homes for two weeks. The local neighborhood kids dropped off their old comic books for us to read. That was my first exposure Betty Boop. I took her comic to bed with me.
Why was the pin twerking
I think the pencil was getting turned on by Betty's hula. L.O.L.
Wow! And thank you IN HD! Other Boop cartoons suffer from fluffyness.
That sure was a very young Jimmy Stewart playing the newspaper reporter! Betty got really risqué doing her hula, a few times her flower lei didn’t cover her all the way! You know the old man in the mountain was Cab Calloway singing!
Doesn't look or sound like Jimmy stewart.
David Wesley you were right, that wasn’t Jimmy Stewart, it was a relative named Dave Fleischer! Even watching again, though, I still think he sounds like Stewart in some of his phrasing.
Definitely Cab Calloway.
Betty Boop look soo beautiful
💄👛👠
I AGREE BETTY BOOP IS QUITE A BEAUTY.
I think the same
I wonder how Betty Boop would fit into today's feminist society.
She wouldnt lmao
Eh, she would. There'd be some that consider her a feminist icon because she gets her coin and she's doin' what she loves.
lmao ofc she would. Shes a woman. In a "feminist society" or so you call it, anybody can fit in, maybe you just look too much into the negative things to see the positive things now a days. Not being mad or anything, just want to point it out.
@@sophiebacklund2702 ^^^
She has been proven to be equal with men or not content with a simple life. She works hard for what she gets and doesn't apologize for it. She's a sexual icon but that doesn't matter, she's a confident, independent woman.
MAN I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Thanks!
Her body movement is so realistic, especially in the hula sequence. Did they use rotoscope?
Yes watch the cartoon "Betty Boop Isle Bambo"
Its called art style it shouldnt be always 100% right
the 4th wall things are really very well done considering its made in 1934.
What a doll
Did I just catch a reference to the Oogie boogie man song from the mountain man?
2019 anyone?
I just like it very much
Well done without high tech.
I wonder why people search always a reason to compare with something different of the plot of this cartoon in the 21 century
Love Betty Boop!
0:35 Betty is so cute
Mountain dude: "You got to ho de ho" me: "what now?"
I had this on vhs along with other episodes watched this as a child
This was on a vhs with casper, yankee doodle donkey and 1 cartoon I'm trying to look for is the factory that made babies but don't know the name.
Stork Market Screen Songs
maybe The Stork Market?
That's what I was trying to figure out
I remember something similar.... Was it Toon Factory?
I had that vhs
I got a Betty tattoo in 1965 before going to Nam
I am a fan of bety boop
Why was she changing in front of the audience especially when their all boys
Betty Boop has always been comfortable doing things like changing in front of other, or dress provocatively. She's very comfortable in her own skin and knows she can handle herself.
Betty changing 😍
She's behind screens or books or a cloth. Performers have done costume changes that way for a couple of hundred years. Even now, onstage costume changes are done behind a screen, or hidden by a crowd of other performers. Off-stage quick-changes take place behind a screen in the wings or upstage of the scenery. (I work backstage in a theatre, so I know all about this.)
Because it apparently didn't matter then

Ami : Boopie(Betty Boop) was cancelled
Yumi : She's(Betty Boop) come back in now?(2019).
BETTY BOOP set the standard for women in cartoons, just like Lucille Ball
set the standard for women in television and comedy.
Except these days, the standard seems to be Amy Schumer -.-
@?? POPEYE is the CHUCK NORRIS of cartoons.🤩🤩🤩
It was great
Love that there’s fake woke outrage directed at a cartoon classic from the 30s
Now just picture a Betty boop body with a Alice Angel face XD

Indian scene reminds me of Elizabeth Warren's 1/1024
Betty Boop about 90 years ahead of her time...
Betty Boop was for kids... right? Why is this so sexual... it’s weird really.
Ka Ge it wasn't really for kids. Cartoons were always shown in front of movies (any movie) in the theater.
You make it sexual tbh.....
Actually those cartoons were for adults.
Yeah... Let us take the Cab Calloway inspired Hi-Di-Ho's for a moment. The bit about: You have to kick the Gong, to get along with me... Is definitely not kid friendly. As it is code worded for Smoking Opium. The Boyfriend in these Songs is sometime referred to as being cokie. Which should be more obvious that Cocaine was his preferred high.
Ka Ge Betty Boop was shown to both adults and kids but because of the HAYES CODE Betty Boop became more modest kid friendly. TALK ABOUT SEXUAL how about BRITNEY SPEARS , MILEY CYRUS , MADONNA , LADY GAGA , KATY PERRY , TAYLOR SWIFT , BEYONCE ? Kids love these DIVAS.
me dio mucha risa al final
Your hat

Betty boop did,t even look like that all they did was just White wash her she was black befor :)
I ate lieing look up on you tub that a lot of Proof 😎
She wasn't. She was a french poodle first though. There was a black singer with similar style. But she was not the basis for Betty Boop at all. People just love to black wash her for some reason. It is like saying Arnold Schwarzenegger was the first He-Man or any popular blond actress was inspiration for Barbie becasue she was modelled after popular women at that time.
The hair style is famous in black women also the idea of the character is also famous among them
*cough cough* bendy and the ink machine *cough* alice *cough*
