- SPOILER ALERT:
Ever wondered exactly what happened to contestants that entered the Video Zone? This electronic press kit clip reveals the actual sets and props used during the Bonus Round games as they are actually being played. Quite an eye opener!
That explains why Nick Arcade didn't have the normal red team vs blue team. It was because it was blue screen in the video zone. That's why it was red vs yellow.
Well, they could have done a green screen.
@@aualga might not have worked as properly as they wanted it to. Plus you'd have to disallow people wearing green in studio. For very obvious reasons.
Red vs Yellow worked well just Like Red vs blue worked well on double dare
After All These Years, We Finally Know What Really Goes On in the VIDEO ZONE!
This actually makes it look way more difficult than it appeared on TV.
Like an even more shittier Kinect.
Was a great and cool idea but back then they made did with what technology was available.
25 years later I finally understand! Cool!
Looks like tge same concept was recycled into another game show a couple years later called Secrets Of The Cryptkeeper's Haunted House.
James sent me. Just some past memories I'm wondering about on. This was so awesome as a kid!
Billo1281
Me too. He probably sent over 24000 of us. Lol
Wow! You know, I always thought the green screen rooms were a bit more spacious than that. Between the cramped quarters and the broom-closet lighting, I bet quite a few contestants became downright terrified during their Zone runs. Definitely puts a bit of a damper on my 90s dreams, but still makes me appreciative of just how hard you guys worked to make it look fun on TV. Thanks for the backstage pass!
Benjamin Kellog Hi, Ben. Actually, they do take up quite a bit of space. As the contestants run out of the Video Zone, you can see the "Wizard Level" in the background, they just didn't make it on the day the EPK crew was shooting. That set is over 30' wide and 25 feet tall. The "Haunted Museum" is about 25' wide and 25' tall. Both the Wizard Level and the Haunted Museum are "flat" 2D type environments, so the play area projecting outward was relatively limited, only about a 10' apron from the furthest blue screen vertical element. "Snowslingers" was shot from above and covers at least a 16 x 22 feet area. The cramped feeling comes from the lighting, which had to be strictly controlled because of the needs of the getting a clean key from the blue sets and that those sets where part of the shows live action. They literally have to run, through the door, get ready on the blue set and -- boom -- go! And they are in position ready for the next level whether it happens or not. If we didn't keep those blue sets close to each -- and they really do take up a lot of room -- we would have had to done multiple edits in every show to cover the time of their movement (back then, "online" editing occurred in a big suite with expensive tape machines, something you always wanted to avoid; it is why game shows have a reality TV type look to them, they are shot live to tape to make them economical. Only major gaffs or swapping out prizes and stuff were edited out). When those contestants run, they are running to catch the show before we roll into credits. If we made the sets any further away, they may not have made it.
For Enthlevel, we are planning on the games being shot from multiple angles and even employing tracking shots for the virtual reality portion of the game. The graphics will draw from the latest video game technologies and we hope to exceed some of these effects by combining them with technology from the broadcast side of the equation. Using today's technology, will produce stunning results and we will have far more latitude in the types of games, accessories and powers/effects you will be able to deploy.
+enthlevel wow that sounds extremely complicated. O_o I remember watching this on Saturday mornings at 7 AM back in 1993-1994 but I think the show only lasted a year. How long did it take to tape one episode? Did they do 3-4 in one day like most game shows? Jeopardy does a week's worth in 2 days. I also thought they did the live action video game segment shot on another day or something. Looks like they do it all in one take when the audience is there. Is that true?
I remember seeing an article in an issue of Nickelodeon magazine back in the early 90s on how this was done.
As a kid I can’t lie I always wanted to go on the show cause I thought they were actually in a video game lol. Obviously as a young teen I learned about green (well blue in this case) screens and realized how silly it would of been to think I’d be put in a video game. I give them credit cause even though the obstacles weren’t real they managed to make it difficult to a certain degree well difficult for kids that aren’t used to playing like this lol.
this was AWESOME thank you!! this should have been released back then
Always wondered How that all look behind the scenes.. Thanks
After seeing this, that Robot Chicken skit makes so much sense now! 😂
I think phil Moore is a great host
Great compliment for the host!
OMG!! I have been wondering my WHOLE life how they pulled that off!! Thank you!!!!!
So that's how they played the video zone.
It's also how Knightmare's dungeon is done, and why that shows has the contestant wear a helmet covering his or her eyes.
Just like NIMH, we had just unlocked the Secret of Nick Arcade.
"Nickelodeon Arcade" should've returned for a third season (1993) with a new host and the same announcer. (Andrea Lively)
I had a hunch it was something like a green screen. I still rather run through Olmec's Temple on "Legends Of The Hidden Temple".
I agree
I’ve always wondered how that worked.
Miss this show😢
that's pretty awesome used to love this show
That explains why they are usually delayed to react or seem to be "clumsy" in a way.
Miss you guys
Cool beans guys.
This is why hardly anybody won. What a mess this bonus round was.
But fun. Ever see Knightmare?
I think only Snowslinger was a mess. Contestants usually didn't have that much trouble getting to the Wizard level.
@@SgtSega Oh heck yes. I saw that when it came on originally. Really clever show
This was so cool it watch! I always wondered about how the bonus round worked…
30+ years later, now I see why the Red team v. Yellow team.
I loved this show when I was a kid.
Screaming at the TV as a kid, I never realized how hard it is after seeing this.
Also Cas was on Get The Picture sadly the episode is lost
Man no wonder the kids never look excited after coming out XD now I get it.
Who was the "C. Weed" who directed Nick Arcade? My obvious guess has to be Glenn Weiss, who didn't want to use his name in the credits because he was still employed with Fox at the time working at their Washington affiliate and "Studs" in Hollywood.
I'll never tell...
1:39 Is that the promotional considferation text on the Face-Off cabinet's screen? 0 ____ 0
Damn..... Thanks for the information I guess....
Compared to other games in the Video Zone, that snowball one just looks unfair.
I agree, the ones with actual props were unnecessary
@@nostalgiamostalgia0319 yah snow slingers only had 3 wins/passes you did a video on that
So they mean to tell me that they don't know where the enemies are. They don't know they're being hit. That's bullshit.
+Shen Agüeybaná II yep i agree , seems rigged
There have to be monitors off camera (about where the cameras are shooting everything) that show the superimposed animated picture, similar to how a weatherman has monitors to the side so they can see what they're doing. That's why sometimes the kids will be looking at the camera while trying to do something.
Its rigged THE END
DUDE THE PEOPLE WERE TELLING THE WHERE 2 GO. Dont talk again .
The butthurt in your comment is quite obvious. You see the monitor in the level 2 play right next to the assistants catching the balls, so they have an idea of where they need to throw. It clearly is not rigged. And what's wrong with the host helping out some nervous kids, in the same manner as every single other Nickelodeon show involving some form of a physical challenge?
I always wondered what 8t was like back there
I knew they were behind a chroma key (the actual name of the blue screen they were behind). It's still neat.
I wonder what’s it look like for the raft the moon base the rail car the raft the carpet ride and the wizards
He told them "great job"
LOL. Liar!
Frank Rizzo Nadine in season 1 didn't do a good job in level 1, because it was wtf.
90s kid for so thats how they do the blue screen wow
It's essentially the same blue/green screen technology meteorologists use on the local news...
Man this ruined my childhood I always thought they where in a game lol 😮 it's crazy how they did this I always wanted to know this is kinda like finding out Santa and the Easter bunny aint real lol
Now i know why they were out of breath every time they came back.
Where were the things they had to avoid behind the scenes?
Would wearing green affect the blue screen?
Nope.
The only thing that would "wreck" it if you wear anything that is blue. That is why they wear different colors bands and such.
Neat-O! How did you get this?
Enthdegree is a project of Nick Arcade's production team. They probably had it in archive.
What are the contestants names in this video?
Blark Nilfog and Clane Junkins
Cas and Jeanine. The whole series, including the 20 gas skipped episodes are available on Paramount+.
The magic is ruined! But thanks for the clip.
Eh, if you know some TV, you can figure it out. When I was in elementary school, we visited the CNN center and I was wearing blue. They talked about how weather was done and asked me to come up and help show the others why people don't wear blue on a blue screen. I also got to describe the mock weather setup like I was on TV so that was cool too.
So *that's* it, huh? 🤣
Hit start
I bet they was disappointed
dude
They could only look at a small ass tv? No wonder they always sucked lol. I knew it was green of blue screen being used but I assumed they gave the kids a large projector wall to go by or something.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: For anyone wanting to watch this, it is available on Paramount+!!!
This seemed like no fun on the other side of things
The video zone is not real?!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Definitely doesn't look as fun as I once thought it would be lol.
My childhood is ruined
TheMcgillacuddy Are you serious?
Wow that looks boring. How do they see the bad guys? Just the people?
worst tv show ever made knightmare is better than this
Both shows are better than video Power that show was garbage
