We take the Roamer 1 to the hottest place we could find. Las Vegas. After doing an in-house test for over 10 days, we decided to push the bar and take it into the heat of the desert, reaching almost 108 degrees farenhiet. How long can the Roamer 1 go?

I’m a Roamer with a Conqueror UEV-490 living in AZ. The UEV-490 gets so hot in the sun, you have to wear gloves if you’re going to touch the trailer. I found a solution for this problem. I sprayed Lizard Skin ceramic coating on the top and front of the trailer. The top was sprayed with white and the front with the black ceramic insulating coating. It has made a huge difference. The inside of the trailer gets warm, but not nearly as hot as before. Before the Lizard Skin application the trailer got so hot the window on the UEV-490 deformed. I had to get it replaced. We were traveling through Laughlin, NV around the end of July and it was 123 degrees outside. I was able to put my bare hand on the part of the trailer with the Lizard Skin applied without burning my hand. This stuff is amazing at mitigating heat transfer from the extreme heat outside to the inside of the trailer. Great video Shane and the ROA team. I appreciate your team doing these experiments and testing the trailers in real life scenarios.

There are solar ports so you could add some additional solar as well. Not sure how much that would help in this case.
You should have pointed the temperature gun at a white area in the field instead of on the black graphics. I have experience in this and noted 40 degree differences from black to white surfaces in direct sunlight. Nothing gets hotter than flat black. Only thing cooler than gloss white is a polished mirror like surface. Regardless that camper is obviously well insulated. Thanks for sharing.
Well said. I live in central america and walking bare foot on concrete, the difference between nice white concrete compaired to even light grey. The grey will burn your feet but not the white.
I love the grey colored trailers but I would rather have a white walled trailer for the hot climates.
I wonder if Nomadic 12V cooling solution would work better. Designed to work in AZ heat (120+)
I'd be really curious to see how that would hold up down here in Florida. Because 15% humidity is basically spring. Our summer months are about 104 with 80% humidity. The humidity in my opinion, is the difference maker. And I'll be getting a roamer 1 someday. So I'd Love to see it. Thanks for the videos. Great Content. Love yalls trailers

So the biggest thing I am grateful for is the expectation management that you did. The video did a great job showing me what the capabilities of the trailer can do.
It also helps to better understand what the different challenges the PAUSE goes through in that environment.
Did you have the additional solar panels out also? I don’t recall hearing if you did.
BLUF….. still love these trailers. Leaning toward the PAUSE still due to its size.
I purposely got an extra alternator in my truck so I could charge the trailer anytime we drove it. How much I can push to the trailer is something I need to ask experts.
Anyways…. Thanks for managing our expectations. It hasn’t changed my mind about getting one at all. But the video does minimize future frustration because now I know what to expect.

Can PAUSE consider doing thicker panels like the roamer?
Imagine is you could make the solar panels detachable or where they can raise up a few feet so you could put some sort of canvas between the panels and the trailer to get some of that direct heat off the trailer.
Maybe quick detachable panels with long enough cords to put under the sun while trailer is in tree shade.
What about changing the color scheme so that it doesn't absorb all that heat?
I’ve seen living vehicles have solar panel “awning” I think that would be a super cool upgrade for the roamer1
Thanks Shane. Good to know video. I am a Zoner (AZ) myself (Currently in SOCAL) and hope to be a ROAMER soon. I can never get the misses to set the home AC below 75 (even living in AZ at 110+ temps) so it should last a bit longer for us even setting the AC at 70, plus we have a 2000watt Champion generator for just incase to try and keep toped off during early evening when the SUN is below the horizon.
Also 97% once you hit Vegas, is there a way to have the trailer get a full charge from the tow rig (Sorry if dumb question, never owned a RV/Trailer before).
Thanks for the comment. Yes, you can install a DC-DC changer and change way more from the Truck to the trailer. If it had this set-up we would probably got to Vegas at 100%
For heat and cooling, even in 120F heat, you want a DC or AC 12,000 BTU mini-split with heat pump, 1.5-2kw solar panels, 10+kw battery. Mount mini-split on the trailer tongue with 5-7" U-bolts or on the back of trailer.
That is the most efficient way to be off-grid for weeks at a time and you don't have to use propane or gas generator at all. Every 1kw solar will generate 4-6kw of solar power, give or take. 4kw solar generated for every 1kw of solar panel per day. So 100w panel, generates 400+ watt of storage on an average day.
This is the way to save money, be frugal, and generate heat, cooling, and even **gasp** water.
How long does it take for a generator to charge the batteries from empty to full?
Would a residential-style inverter AC work better and be more efficient? They could use a cartridge type inverter for this RV. I feel like the 12V Dometic AC on this unit isn't efficient enough for this RV.
Do you guy have a bunkhouse in the works? I love the trailer but we are a family of four.
Are the Nomadic DC units and the Dometic comparable?
I wonder why most trailers don't come with built-in generators like Class A, B, & C RV's do? I'm guessing it's because most RV trailers aren't driven around to non-RV park locations like motorized RV's are. Too bad.

Yes. It is always recommended to have the awning out in those types of heat. It can help a lot. We just decided to do it with it in. It should preform better with the awning out. 😀

I was thinking the same thing; with awnings all the way around would assist with the thermal barrier I think. - I mainly camp away from people as it is, so I don't have to worry about neighbors when setting up the awning on the other side.
how big of a generator would you need to charge the batteries?
He was pulling 47 amps during the day and I imagine less at night. RV parks supply 30 amps and run systems like this all the time. So I am guessing a 4k generator would be about right?

Any 2000 watt generator is fine. The ac pulls only 600 watts
@@nathanoldroyd3798 That has the Dometic RTX 2000 and pulls, as the name suggests, 2000 watts. I am sure there is a surge on start up too. To stay in the conditions shown it would have to run nearly continuously to keep it in the 70's during the day.
@@rb2712 True. But the figure shown was his depletion rate AFTER solar gains. The AC pulls 2000 watts.
If your batteries have enough ah, you can enjoy long periods of air conditioning.
