- City Thameslink is one of the quieter stations located on the Thameslink core, between Farringdon and Blackfriars. Despite its fairly low passenger numbers, it is perhaps one of the most central rail stations in London.
I spent a little under an hour here but still managed to capture a huge amount of trains, and for once in the Thameslink Core, a little bit of variety - more on this later!
Enjoy the video :)
Times of filming: 12:25-13:05 approx.

387s use to run on thameslink but where replaced by 700s like the 377 and 319s the 387s where only on thameslink for a little as there was a delay in delivery of the class 700s
The person that tried to open the doors: Uh why ain't they opening
Yeah that was funny lol
I'm surprised they just used some spare great northern and Gatwick express trains coupled and then just letted it run on Thameslink
Definitely quite unusual…
ncl trains switch power at finsbury park also southern north of shepards bush i think
Southern do indeed change power north of Shepherds Bush, in between two stations. NCL trains change power at Drayton Park.

They change power at Farringdon station
Indeed - in the southbound direction only (northbound services change power at City Thameslink)
Curious. Has Gatwick Express 387s ever substituted for a Thameslink train?
Back in the day when the 387/2s were just being introduced, they actually ran with Thameslink for a period of time. It would have been possible to see 387/2s running Bedford-Brighton services at the time.
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourneyyep
Southern trains also change power on the once a hour 4-car service on the WLL, though not in a station.
Correct!
What Caused a 387 to return to the TCS?
Interesting question - the 387s with Gatwick Express are normally maintained at either Selhurst or Brighton depots, however neither of these depots have a wheel lathe. Gatwick Express (and occasionally Southern) send their 377s and 387s up to Hornsey depot, which does have a wheel lathe, to keep the train wheels in good condition.
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney Interesting, since I rarely go to London, I will have to see for myself next time I am not travelling with someone.
i watched the entire video on 2x soeed and didnt see a 387
It’s right at the very end! You may have only just missed it.
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourneyoh i found it
Drayton park
Correct!
387 what is it doing there
Not entirely sure - I believe it was visiting Hornsey depot for the wheel lathe. Strange to see a 387/1 coming from Selhurst too.
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney I remember the time I saw a 377/3 at Waterloo
Well 387s maybe coming back to service soon or idk
Wow that’s rare - you were lucky to catch that
