Lightning Talk: Introverts: Speak! - Rudyard Merriam - CppCon 2023

Introverts often shy away from speaking at conferences, while conferences need all the speakers they can find. This talk will show introverts that speaking is a natural role for them.

Rudyard Merriam
Rud Merriam is a retired software developer, having lived through the spaghetti, structured programming, and object-oriented development paradigms. He's trying to figure out functional programming and keep up with the latest C++ standards.
Rud wrote his first FORTRAN IV in 1968 and his first C++ in 1990 with Borland's Turbo C++. During his career, he worked mainly with embedded systems, with one system measuring the flow in real pipelines. Since retirement, he has used C++ with multiple NASA Centennial Challenges of robotics on Mars and the Moon. He sporadically writes about C++ on Medium.com.

2:14 that "huh" was on point with the memes.
I am also an introvert. This talk really resonated with me.
Fun little talk and the core message is 100% true! That said, I'm very introverted but I do think my thinking is better if I talk it out, because it helps break down the blocks or false assumptions better than going around in loops of thought, but this is also why giving a talk is valuable, since sometimes you learn something for your own benefit from the experience!
Truth. Actually, socializing at a conference is different from socializing for the purpose of socializing. So as an introvert I have no problem with conferences and talking to people because you have guaranteed common interests.
Hilarious!
I like how this highlights that you need to be an introvert to be successful with C++.
So true
