The upside down method for lighting a fireplace

A sustainable and eco-friendly method to light a fireplace. It is moreover a very easy method. Many people think that the fire burns from the bottom up. They therefore lay the lighting material (sticks, blocks and paper) at the bottom and place the logs on top. Swiss research has shown that there is a better combustion of the firewood if the fire is ignited from top to bottom. This causes heat to rise quickly and to warm the flue. Sorry for that, we will see if we can improve the video. We light the fire with a fire starter and matches.

This fire place is not setup correctly , take the front measurement , the back wall measurement , then front to back measurements, then minus 6inches from all three , u want 3 clearance all the way around..

Why would you want that? This is a 300 year old Dutch fireplace with a very wide chimney and perfect draft.

Does not make sense to do this and then put a big log when small wood is lit!

I don't understand your remark? Why doesn't it make sense? By the time you put the larger log, the chimney has been heated and a good draft has been initiated.
