Just bought an x model in 360. It’s for use here in Florida where the term “thick woods” is a vast understatement by the power of 10. Seldom do I get a shot of 100 yards so I have no need for a credmore. Launching a 200 grain bullet at 2000 fps plus almost guarantees I won’t have to track a critter for 2 hours with a machete in my hand.

As a reloader the 360 Buckhammer makes a lot of sense: It outperforms the 357 max and 35 rem at all distances, better performance than the 30-30 up to 200 yards (great for woods), inherits the wide bullet variety in shapes and weights in 35 cal(mature, tested, bullets designs), straight wall means longer case life and ease of reloading, and can easily convert 30-30 brass. If you think about it, even if the cartridge stopped being sold and supported overnight; you would never run out of reloading components! Another advantage for these kinds of restricted cartridges is that some places like MI have so many deer they are allowing straight wall cartridges during muzzleloader season, so you don't need to purchase and learn a new platform if you already have a legal hunting arm.
That's not to say that the 360 is going to be the end-all-be-all deer cartridge, people keep taking deer with all manner of cartridges even some that haven't been in production for a hundred years. Use what you enjoy and have fun. I just built an SSK-50 contender clone and got me a 360 buckhammer barrel, I'm betting it's going to be great this season. When this cartridge was introduced it was hard to find on shelves but now I see it at many big box stores, hopefully they keep up production for the hunting season for those that don't reload.

I bought a Savage .350 Legend a year or two ago. I haven't killed anything with it yet. But I just bought a Henry .360 Buckhammer last week. I did this for multiple reasons. First is because in all the ballistic gel tests I've seen, the .350 legend bullet does not mushroom. A .360 Buckhammer does. My .350 legend only holds 5 rounds, vs the 7 rounds of the Buckhammer. Follow up shots are quicker in the Buckhammer because your trigger hand goes right back to the trigger after completing the reload cycle. There's only two movements in the lever action. Down and up. Versus the 6 movements in a bolt action.
    1) Move hand from stock to bolt handle.
    2) Lift bolt handle.
    3) Move bolt to the rear.
    4) Move bolt forward.
    5) Lower bolt handle.
    6) Return hand to stock.
Granted, it's only fractions of a second for each movement, but all those actions add up. A lever action rifle is just much faster for follow up shots. If needed.

I certainly hope not. Thankfully we don’t have straight wall laws in TN but as is now, though, we can’t get the Remington 200 gr Core-lokts to reload the 35 Rem OR the 360 BHR and so if anything that makes them both sort of dead in my mind. Still, my 35 Rem Marlin 336cs is my favorite deer rifle for the woods.

I honestly think 350 legend is an excellent cartridge and I will continue to use it for hunting but I feel like 360 bucket is gaining steam, slowly but it’s gaining. I live in Louisiana and here we can use a .35 caliber or larger center fire in a breech load rifle with an exposed hammer for primitive season(nothing primitive about it). Most people here use .35 whelen but ammo is really hard to find and very expensive. The 360 is another option for primitive season here. I have one in a Henry single shot and it shoots well and doesn’t have near the recoil as the 35 whelen.

From my experience of hand loading or many years, the rimmed case with a capacity nearly 40 grains behind a premium spire point around 200 grains which should produce nearly 2400 fps…..? Here in Delmarva, which legalized the straight wall parameters, the scenario is thick woods and grown cutovers, plus open flat crop fields, the possibility of a 200 or so yard shot occurs. In addition the necessary punch to anchor the animal so it doesn’t make it into extremely thick cover, which becomes very complicated around here! Until the approval of these cartridges it was shotgun or muzzle loaders only. I have been using a custom Contender rifle in 357 Maximum for several years with good results, but I like the idea of a little more horsepower and range along with the accuracy I demand from my rifles. There is no handicap using a single shot firearm hunting in my experience.

These guys have been shooting 12 gauge slugs their entire life and now that they can shoot a rifle they want less recoil. The 360 BH is the straight wall reincarnation of the old 356 Winchester, now defunct. It seems that .35 cal. rounds do not catch on in the US and Canada which domed the 360 BH to failure. It's best chance was in Alaska for bears and moose but the 30-06 has a flatter trajectory and the 45-70 has better stopping power on the big bears. The 350 Legend rules in the straight wall states, available in cheap but accurate bolt action rifles. It is a good deer harvester and nothing more powerful is needed. RIP for the 360 BH.

The 350 Legend has identical ballistics to the 35 Rem. which has been a better stopper than the 30-30. The 350 Legend is the most popular cartridge in the straight wall states because it is effective, cheap, widely available and doesn't kick much. And it is available in bolt action rifles which cost half of what the price of lever action rifles. That is why the 360 BH is doomed to failure.
