This is amazing for students who are extremely passionate about the industry but won’t have the access to top notch universities and programs. Thank you so much, Dr.
Andy always has such a great balance of practical knowledge and scientific theory and evidence in his videos. So great to have this content available for free. Amazing stuff.
This is absolutely brilliant. I'm a international level fencer, and I'm seeing how assisted speed exercises could help me reach a higher top speed over the ground, while resisted work can help my CoD and the explosion into a lunge. Thanks so much for all this, and for everything else you're doing. I'm following it all! Bring on more speed videos.
There are some things here we all need to pay attention to. I followed Dr squat and his Compensatory acceleration. Fred Hatfield was one of my heroes. It doesn't seem to help much getting through the sticking point but helps make you continue to push or accelerate when the leverage becomes better. I'm 83 and still practice this. Now we use bands or chains to make the entire RM resemble the sticking point. Your videos are the best to stay on top of the latest research. I thank you.
Only really got here via hypertrophy and strength, but you explained these concepts to where I'm sure this will stick due to understanding and not just memorization. I am super interested in all the content now. Awesome to understand this so quickly I wish they went over this in track back in the day my motivation would have sky rocketed
I think a question that many people might wanna know is how can we jump higher? There are A LOT of videos out there about jumping but none of them are exactly scientific. The day you make this video, is my happy day.
Great content! Would love to see more on speed and power. How to train for max velocity and honestly metabolic pathways and fueling (nutritional) strategies for max speed and max power
Just picked up a book on a whim at a used bookstore "Training for Speed, Agility and Quickness" I'm usually a skeptic about fitness books from people I've never heard of. It's encouraging that one of the Authors, Lee Brown, is a colleague of yours!
“Taking your shirt off adds 20-30% in hypertrophy” at 14:30. Does this apply to pants too? Not sure if I am ready for naked workouts.... but if it adds to hypertrophy!
Thanks for not giving all the info just floating in easy thought and make the audience use their own intuicion...the fitness industry is in real need of it
Solid stuff. Looking to increase my agility on the dirt bike. Hip hinge and balance movements with accuracy and explosive speed (in some cases). This is definitely giving me some ideas.
Question for ya: What if you have limited availability to this type of equipment? Are there certain drills that can be done with no equipment at all that still can be beneficial?
If you have absolutely no equipment, then plyometrics (with push ups-pull ups etc) can illicit the same type of nuero muscular recruitment. Resistance bands for example are very cheap and easy to get, so why not buy some of those and use them for the same purpose?
the example you showed was for power lifting. do you have a video of practical exercises one could perform for acceleration with regards to sprinting (tennis and football specifically)? preferably exercises that can be done at home or with simple equipment. i have only a very basic gym in my apartment. just a squat rack. and definitely no 100lbs exercise bands
I would like more of these videos. I share your enthusiasm for speed acceleration. I would be interested in knowing, if using a harness to lift an athlete on a high speed treadmill is effective for increasing max velocity.
Hey Coach! Would love to see a breakdown of how you would plan and organize conditioning for a large scale team (40+ athletes)! Thanks again for all your videos!
Hey Dr. Galpin. We were incorporating the assisted jumps with some of the athletes at Ball State. The responses we were getting were mostly acute. Have you found a training method that elicits a more chronic adaptation?
The baseball bat study thing is fascinating, I wonder if any teams will take the opposite approach moving forward. Like you said, it's sort of a dogma/psychological thing so I don't see it happening any time soon.
So thats why my coach wants me to do those annoying resistance band variations of the bench press and deadlift. Thanks! Now they suddenly seem a lot more useful.
Would love to see more videos like this!! Also a question I have is is putting bands at the top vs the bottom better or worse for certain training aspects?
You mentioned how lifting weights explosively is still bad for punching due to having to slow down at the end. So would the age old throwing a medicine ball technique be good for speed and power then, and ideal?
I would assume it depends on the weight of medicine ball and the athlete's ability to produce enough force to cause it to accelerate until it leaves the fingertips. If you're throwing it up, you're going to have gravity to work against and if the athlete can't produce enough strength for the ball to accelerate, there won't be acceleration throughout the movement. Young athletes in particular would have difficulty. If you're throwing it down, there will always be the acceleration through the movement.
My only thought about a coach aiding you with top speed running is what do you do when you run 100 meters in under 10 seconds, how do you aid top speed then? you would be to fast for a coach or buddy :/
So theoretically if you wanted to train your striking speed, lets say for a punch, would using a band to pull your hand *away* from you actually be a reasonable exercise? Assuming you aren't tearing your rotator cuff in the process lmao.
Why would your body get stronger in order to jump faster or stronger and why would ure body need to adopt if you use bands especially during box jumps though?
I love ur content. You are a great person❤ do you think it's possible to add the 2b muscle fiber gene to us humans. Like I would love to do that even tho I'm not a lab rat it would be worth it.
Acceleration- run sprints uphill. Top end-run downhill
My brain gets a nice workout with every one of your vids. Excellent material mate!
More of this content please, especially in relation to combat sports. Never considered the deceleration at the end of ROM 👨🏽🔬
This is amazing for students who are extremely passionate about the industry but won’t have the access to top notch universities and programs. Thank you so much, Dr.

Dr Galpin blowing my mind as usual.
Great presentation, gem after gem. Gotta love the shoutout to Chris too
Great content! Would love to see more on speed and power. How to train for max velocity and honestly metabolic pathways and fueling (nutritional) strategies for max speed and max power
This is what I've been looking for. Very detailed speed training. Would love to see more of this stuff. Good job mate
I love the speed and power stuff. Especially coming from a fighting background. Thanks Doc for all your knowledge!
Just picked up a book on a whim at a used bookstore "Training for Speed, Agility and Quickness"

Thanks Andy, another great vid! Wish I was in your classes haha.
Thank you for this video! Would love to see more on training speed. Specifically max velocity.
EXCELLENT! Tennis-plyo's for acceleration, Serve speed, use lighter racket (like wiffleball bat for baseball hitters)
thankyou for the free education,Sir.
Great videos would love to see More
Excellent explanation as always Andy thank you for the class :)
btw. last episode on yours podcast The Body Of Knowledge is absolute masterpiece :)

Yea man we need more speed videos!!!

Please make more videos on speed training
Very interesting! Thanks Dr. G

Yes, plz make more speed videos
More acceleration content and thank you
Please do more videos like this

Awesame! Thanks for the great lesson!
Hey Dr. Galpin. We were incorporating the assisted jumps with some of the athletes at Ball State. The responses we were getting were mostly acute. Have you found a training method that elicits a more chronic adaptation?
hey Andy, would you say that sprinting down hill would be efficient in this case?
The baseball bat study thing is fascinating, I wonder if any teams will take the opposite approach moving forward. Like you said, it's sort of a dogma/psychological thing so I don't see it happening any time soon.
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the interesting ideas!!
absolutely love this video, very easy to understand even for dumb dumbs, like myself. thanks for the great info.
Love the content and sharing the theory
Awesome content, cheers
So thats why my coach wants me to do those annoying resistance band variations of the bench press and deadlift. Thanks! Now they suddenly seem a lot more useful.
Great video we need more of those😂
Bro ,make some videos on vertical jump training!
I know this is older....but golf? Any tips for golfers? We have the light speed sticks. Anything else?
Would love to see more videos like this!! Also a question I have is is putting bands at the top vs the bottom better or worse for certain training aspects?
Yes, it depends.
More on this subject for sure. So are slow twitch fibers better built through heavier resistance training? Alteast that's what I'm understanding
This is gold!
Great content, thanks so much.....would you have recommendation for a ratio of accelation vs velocity training for a soccer player (midfielder)?
Would downhill running count as assisted/overspeed training?
How in the f you have only 17k subs?!?
You mentioned how lifting weights explosively is still bad for punching due to having to slow down at the end. So would the age old throwing a medicine ball technique be good for speed and power then, and ideal?

what are you recommendations for getting faster in swimming?
So theoretically if you wanted to train your striking speed, lets say for a punch, would using a band to pull your hand *away* from you actually be a reasonable exercise? Assuming you aren't tearing your rotator cuff in the process lmao.
What and how to increase punch speed / accel?
Any ideas on how to work max velocity running alone?
Why would your body get stronger in order to jump faster or stronger and why would ure body need to adopt if you use bands especially during box jumps though?
I love ur content. You are a great person❤ do you think it's possible to add the 2b muscle fiber gene to us humans. Like I would love to do that even tho I'm not a lab rat it would be worth it.
#SQUAAAAAAD 🤓
Will this work for me? I can’t run anymore since the car crash that made me disabled (7 years ago) 😞
So in swimming training with fins will make you faster
Shit!! I am a climber and this could be a interesting thing for speed climbing look it up!!
If I could click 100k likes on all your vids, I would
By taking your shirt off you add 20 to 30% strength to the bench press?? Complete BS
My critical thinking is backwards :'( Goddammit
