    I don't know what happened to your family (yet), but my condolences.
    I don't think you should ever stop doing these videos. Adjustable dumbbells are obviously in high demand, and so your channel is just gold. Also, it's very satisfying to watch you disassemble, assemble, and share your expertise and knowledge about these dumbbells.
    Truly an excellent channel. I hope it blows up and that your business is successful.
    Thanks.

    Arm chair entrepreneur here but I really hope you just cut out the middle man yourself and make your own high quality adjustable dumbells from scratch. I've just found out I bought fakes from one of your old videos and I'm not sure if your upgrades will work so I may be out of look. I've spent a lot of time trying to look for a good pair of adjustable dumbells but they are all cheaply made for the price so I might have to buy normal dumbells instead. I think your channel and business is really great! Have a good day.

      Hey hey David, thank you for your kind words man, I appreciate it. Ultimately, my own adjustable dumbbell design is the plan. But the investment required to R&D new dumbbells will likely exceed a couple hundred grand. Jigs, tooling, materials, machine time...it all adds up quickly. My current fixes are stepping stones to get there. I hope you'll stay tuned! My fix fits quite a few knockoffs. Statistically speaking there's an excellent chance it'll fit yours...but as I have learned these past several months, I cannot guarantee they'll fit every single dumbbell out there. Too many variables.

      Hi Daniel. Yes, my kits fit most but not 100% of OEM and fakes/copies/knockoffs. Generally about 1-2% of 1090s and 552 Series 2, and about 5-ish% of Series 1 don't like the tighter tolerances of my discs. In those cases customers either DIY tweak (i.e. sand/file/grind) my discs and pins a bit to fit their specific dumbbells and weight plates, or return the kits for a refund minus shipping/tax/processing fees.

    How do we order the kit? Do you have a website or do you sell it on Amazon?

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  4 роки тому

      Hi Hector. I don't sell on Amazon or eBay. And while I am working on a website, I'm finding that this sort of product isn't the type of thing I want folks adding to a shopping cart without speaking with me first. I want to help my customers order the correct parts for their situation and not order things they don't really need (unless they just want to, of course). Send an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for ordering info. Thanks man!

    Hey quick question I bought a second hand selectech 560 with the selector in the middle (the actual handle is the selector) selecting weights is difficult because the selector is somewhat stiff any ideas?

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  4 роки тому +1

      Hey IA, so the 560 is nothing more than the same basic design wrapped in a different shell. They moved the "selector dial" inward next to the grip. They used this weird arrangement of double-sided retainer discs and what can only be described as dividers between the weight plates. Then they slapped a sensor on it talking to a phone app. My guess...something is dragging/catching/pinching. The challenge is to find it by process of elimination. Remove all of your weights from the base. Put just the handle on the base and twist. Still stiff? If so, I'd put my money on the problem being inside the assemblies on either side of the grip....maybe something to do with a ball bearing/spring/washer. Though there are other components inside that assembly not found on the other SelectTechs. If the handle alone twists fine, begin adding one pair of weights at a time into the base. Return the handle to the base each time and twist through all of the weight settings. At some point, with one or more of the plates you're going to feel the stiffness you described. When that happens you know that it's a specific interaction between a plate and one or more of the discs on the handle. Something could be warped/cracked/fractured....possibly one of the discs. Good luck man. Let me know if you narrow it down.

      @@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC I’ll try that...I’m a somewhat afraid to take it apart because there is nothing online on how to disassemble the 560. I’m hoping is similar to the 552..

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  4 роки тому +1

      @@infamousaesthetics Hopefully you won't have to disassemble it. It's not impossible, but it's not as simple as the others and there are quite a few little parts. One of the reasons I have no interest in making a 560 Disc Fix Kit is the complexity of the installation. The first time I disassembled one I immediately knew it would be a customer support nightmare. One of these days if I have the time I'll make a 560 disassembly/reassembly video. If you decide to take it apart, put a towel underneath to catch any loose parts.

    Hey Joe, when i try to go to the web site i get a message saying its a dangerous web site ?

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  3 роки тому

      Hiya C, I don't know the underlying reasons, but some of the alleged security apps out there suck. As a former software dev myself many moons ago, all I can say is that some of the programmers developing these apps don't know what the heck they're doing. I've had maybe 3 or 4 customers over the past few months mention that they're getting a similar message. The most recent was from a customer using Eero wifi.
      My site is a single pager...meaning quite literally a single page of HTML backed by the bare minimum js and css that I personally coded/vetted. So whatever those potato-heads developed they're misidentifying secure sites as threats. I did check the virtual server (it's a shared host) just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I didn't.
      Sorry man, I don't know what is triggering the alert. It's definitely not on the server side that I can tell. Thanks for letting me know though. I appreciate it. If you don't want to access the site out of an abundance of caution, I would be more than happy to screenshot pricing and such for you. Just shoot me an email.
      [UPDATE] Tech support at the web host confirmed what I thought...no server side issue. Everything looks good including my site's SSL cert. Their only guess is that anyone accessing the site with an older OS or browser *could* potentially have an issue that would misidentify the site as a threat. Other than that. we just don't know why, but it appears to be a client side issue.

    Hi, I am trying hard to turn the bolts on the end of the 1090 dumbbell handles and they are totally stuck. It feels like they are impossible to turn off. Have you encountered this issue before? Thanks!

      Same thing happening to me

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  4 роки тому +1

      Hey BigEth, new or used? New then you're likely fighting the factory applied thread lock. Used and you're either fighting thread lock or someone previously reassembled the handles and cranked the nuts way too tight. If the dumbbell shaft is still full assembled, try two longer ratchets or even a breaker bar. Longer lever arms will generate the force you need to break them free.
      If the shaft is already out and you just want to take off the second nut....my first question would be "Why?". I really can't think of a good reason for taking the second one off. But if you want to remove the nut, then place the shaft in vise grips or a vise and use a long ratchet or breaker. Don't worry too much about the amount of force...it'll take it. Good luck and happy new year!

    Hey joe, I was putting a repair disc in and my dad took over, he probably thought he knew what to do and now the bolt isn’t coming out, no matter how much I twist it it won’t come out, I need to take them out as the ball bearings fell out some how, is there any way I can take the bolt out? Every time I try to take it out, instead of the bolt coming out, the shaft starts coming out the other side. Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks.

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  4 роки тому

      Shoot me a video or link to a hosted video at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com. Easier to tell you when I can see what you mean. Without seeing a video of the exact issue...here's my take. With a ratchet on each end you can almost always get one nut/bolt to break loose and come out. You might have to fight the factory thread lock, but one of the two should break free. Even if you have to use longer ratchets or a breaker bar. Once the shaft is out completely and you're left with just a bolt/nut jammed on one end, the best way to get it off is with the shaft in a vise or vise grips. Though I rarely see a need to take off the second fastener. Try not to mar the shaft...even a tiny burr can make reassembly a pain in the butt. If you do create a burr on the shaft you can file it off. Good luck man, and Happy New Year!
