For me personally, Eddie Munson is one of the most beloved characters in all of fiction..idk how he did it, but in that short span of time he made me love him.

He could've easily saved himself but ended up giving his life for a town that considers him a villain.
(I really hope that Dustin reveals the truth in s5 so that Eddie can be realised for the hero he is. Eddie's uncle deserves to know that "he wasn't just innocent, he was a HERO".)

@@astarionposting Netflix's official accounts, Duffer brothers, and both Chrissy's and Eddie's actors considered them as middle school crush type of way so it's likely that way but it ended before it starts. Still, they were also knowing each other from their old school so ''who was never with him'' sentence is kinda wrong too I guess.
Edit: Also, In today's final interview, Joseph Quinn confirmed that his character Eddie really had a crush on Chrissy, he said yes he thinks Eddie did, and he said at least they filmed their scene together thinking there is a romantic connection and possibility here.

He felt so bad for running away and leaving Chrissy and even when most of the town blames him and wants him dead he still fought for them because he felt terrible for leaving Chrissy. You can see how guilty he feels. He is my favorite character ever and he deserved better.

He is by far one of my favorite cinematic hero’s of ALL TIME his character arc from leader of the loners to a young man who found his courage giving his life for the safety of his close friend. He knew that even if they went back through the portal the bats would get through and they’d both die, but he sacrificed himself to save Dustin and instead of dying while running away, he stood his ground against overwhelming odds. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Eddie was such a breath of fresh air for the show. A character that felt like he belonged with the group since the start even though he was new. He was the hero of the season.
it was beautiful to see how this show portrayed the 80's metalhead. it was true that most of people saw them as thugs or even psychos, denying them jobs and even school applications. My father was between them and everyone knew the great person he is right know. Metal was part of his life, and it is mine as well, and my daughters too. We are just adorable and lovely people. Thanks for bringing us Eddie and show the world how we truly are.

Eddie Munson stole my heart. He has the best character attitude. His death killed me, “I didn’t run away this time.” Broke my heart. He was the human version of

I know he is just a character in a show but he made me a better person, his character is like my role model.
Joseph Quinn simply delivered the most iconic supporting character ever: the nerdie-rocker misfit. And I couldn't relate more with him. He deserves everything!
When Eddie died, I was crying my eyes out. He was such a good person and no one ever got to see it. He didn’t deserve to die one bit. You could also see the chemistry with him and Chrissy in the beginning.

"Eddie Munson" is one of us Thrash people. Rarely is someone in fiction like this that isn't a complete joke. Bill and Ted. Wayne and Garth. Beavis and Butthead the guys from the movie "Airheads"... those types. Eddie is a fucking outstanding character. All. Time. Favorite.

Most people don't realise metalheads are some of the most genuine, intelligent, caring, witty and down-to-earth people to grace this earth, yet they're constantly judged, undermined and brushed off as just "weirdos" by people who know nothing outside of what they're told to be. It's sad that it takes a popular TV show to bring this to light but it's a start. 🤘
This video made me cry all over again. Eddie is a gorgeous human being inside and out and I wish we would've gotten to see him just a little more. He will be missed so much. It was his year.

I know this is a stretch but since Eddie's body stayed in the upsidedown, and Vecna is still alive but without a physical body, could it be possible for Vecna to possess Eddie's body and thus bring him, sort of, back to life even if just for a little while? So we could catch a glimpse of him one last time?

This, this, exactly this. Where the hell were everyone else's tears? I get that they were worried about Max being in a coma and the rifts opening up, but Eddie DIED, and that deserves to be acknowledged by more than one main character, especially since they spent so much of S4 trying to protect him and clear his name. Even if no one else knew how to respond to that loss, Steve should have; he of all people knew what Eddie meant to Dustin because he and Dustin have the same relationship. Would a Steve-and-Dustin hug have taken too much time to shoot? Did Eddie not deserve even one sentence of acknowledgement from Steve to Dustin that Eddie was far better than Steve gave him credit for?
I agree with this, they could have just added a scene about this too, especially since that wrap up at end was like thirty minutes!
I hope they'll address this in season 5, at least as far as Steve is concerned. If they don't it could be a friendship breaker between Dustin and Steve :(

Eddie is a character that is misinterpreted by his town, but to those who truly know him, know how much of a kind person he truly is.
The fact that even after sacrificing himself, the town still depicted Eddie as trouble and evil because of what he liked.
His death hit me hard because he was a character that I could see myself being friends with I school.
This video did such a fabulous job as a triube for a character that should have lived.
He's the character I had a fair bit in common with. Not part of any in-crowd. Friends with other people on the outskirts, pretty much. Into heavy metal. Rebellious. Kind heart. I could go on. I also was a teen in the 80s. Graduated in 1990.
the fact I keep coming back to this and tearing up is something else, this editor is so good at what he does. Honestly though I really wish Joseph Quinn the best career, what a great guy :)

I will never get over Eddie’s death. Ever. Hawkins never deserved Eddie anyway. He’s a real friend, a brother, a loving nephew and an awesome man. Dustin is really blessed to have a brother like Eddie. I sobbed (not cry) when Eddie died. He never got the chance to defend himself. He died a hero.
Neither will I, I get that it was classy story telling to give a more mature, not so plot armour ending for him, but I think it was a cop out. He didn't need to die, it would've made sense more for one of "main" cast to die, it would've been more surprising. Killing off Eddie seems cheap, predictable and derivitive of what they did with Billy. Bring on an AMAZING character and do away with them so quickly. Just like GoT last series, I'll forever be, to a lesser extent, pissed off at the thought of what could've been.

I'm going through a grieving process by watching this. what an unexplainably amazing and pure boy who didn't deserve any of this. eddie munson was the absolute best.
Man I got so attached to Eddie. From the first episode I liked him and really enjoyed his character and in volume 2 he became my favorite character, and when he died I was a emotional wreck. He didn't deserve to go and I at least hope in season 5, the town of Hawkins realizes that eddie wasn't a monster.

I loved his personality, and that he wasn’t scared to be different and not fit in, and I really wished I had a friend like that in high school telling me to be myself, instead of changing just so I could be more ‘cool’ and popular, I ended up being a fake version of myself because I felt the real me wasn’t good/cool enough
Hopefully. Though right now Hawkins has a bit more to deal with, like the literal demonic invasion from Hell that's just begun.

I Fell in Love with this Character.
He was with us for only a season, but it felt like we'd had him all along. When he died, it broke me. I broke even more seeing Dustin's reaction to his death especially when he talked to Mr. Munson about it.I cried for Max until Eleven saved her, but Eddie couldn't be saved. :'(

One of the purest and most unexpectedly amazing characters I’ve ever experienced. The fact that they killed him off is so predictable and almost feels like they’re laughing at us tbh. I just don’t understand why characters like him don’t get to have their real chance
To be fair, in the story it just fits too well to make him dead. A person with a million struggles, finally breaks the cycle of "not being a hero", however in doing so has to die for it

Just watching this would make you think it was a show about him. It really shows how many different story’s the writers are able to put into the show without it feeling like its too much.
Every season they do this, a new side character slowly becomes very fun and important to the fans but we all knew this would happen. It hurts but that's the show and that's what keeps our heart still attached to this show

To those saying his death was pointless...
One, its possible that Dustin would have died if they had both fled the portal. Unlikely as we see how quickly they are killed when Vecna is almost killed, but maybe.
Two, Eddie killed a good number of the bat swarm, and only moments before Nancy and Steve had talked about how "stepping on a vine or a bat is like stepping on Vecna himself." Thus Eddie also contributed to weakening Vecna for Eleven
Three, Eddie had so much guilt for leaving Chrissie. It does a good job of bringing it all around, he dedicates the song to her, he talked about running when she died with shame and regret, and he decides he won't run anymore. Largely because of the trauma he had when she died even though he couldn't have done anything to stop it. So this time, even though it might not have done anything, doesn't matter. He couldn't live with running again if it meant someone else died.

Eddie's purpose was to stand up and protect other outcasts who couldn't protect themselves. The brothers accidentally stumbled upon an iconic character and the casting director hit a HR with Quinn playing the role. He's arguably one of the greatest one season side characters in pop culture history.

I really liked Eddie enormously as a character and I think he's one of the best new additions in season 4.
That's probably why his death really annoyed me. Eddie's death had NO other reason than to close his story arc (the "I always run away" part). Eddie's decision to fight the bats instead of just running away from them didn't help ANYONE. Technically he was not even "running away" but was luring the bats away from Dustin. So why fight them instead of luring them away further?
It was completely unnecessary and just a completely pointless decision that didn't make sense on any other level.
I wish they would have found another way to close his story arc instead of giving him such an unsatisfying, useless death.
I feel like it was necessary though because if Eddie didn't distract them for longer, the bats would've either gone after Steve's group or gone through the portal and invaded real Hawkins.
I have seen some theories out there for possibilities to bring him back as a character. My own would include some sort of time travel, because I have no idea how Eleven should be able to close all those gigantic gates that we saw at the end of the season. Also if I remember correctly Vecna talked about the end of the world when the clock strikes 4 times. It did, Max is alive but in a coma and probably paralyzed and blind. We have seen many clocks used as symbols during season 4, also the upside down being stuck in the past. Maybe that means something.
Another thing I read that the Duffer Brothers use DnD terms and indeologies, the names, Demogorgon to Vecna. And in DnD has a henchman called 'Kas', who happens to be a vampire. And in some fictional works People can be turned into Vampires by getting bitten by a bat. The problem there is, that Steve also was bitten by the Demobats and seems to be just fine. Still it could be Vecna who changes Eddie, turning him in somekind of a henchman for him. The bats only being used as a symbolism for the DnD character Kas.
Also that would mean that he would return as possible antagonist if there is some truth in this theory. On a wikia site an article also says that Kas eventually betrays his master (Vecna). Since I don't have any deep knowledge of the DnD lore I will now stop theorizing.
We can hope and dream.
Yeah, that was my issue with this too. He didn't need to buy time for the group inside the Creel house because if Hopper, Joyce, and Murray hadn't been successful, then the vines would have just killed them anyway. Since they all are connected through the hive mind, half of the bats could have gone back to the Creel house after the vines detained Steve, Robin, and Nancy, if that was their purpose. But the bats weren't an important factor inside the house, and it was the group in Russia that killed all the bats anyway.
The exact timeline of how this all went down is a little fuzzy to me since the story necessarily has to jump around and show concurrent events serially and the events inside Max/Eleven's mind don't have to coincide with real-time at all. I don't know if the vines that had the team inside the Creel house were actively trying to strangle them, and only had them for less than one minute, or if they were merely toying with the group and letting them live for longer, but suffer (letting just a little air through). So that whole thing may have lasted several minutes and may have only been ONE minute in real time. I believe it was several minutes as the confrontation between Lucas and Jason's group was introduced and would have taken much more than one minute, in real time, AFTER Max was already inside the Vecna trance.
MAYBE he needed to prevent the bats from traveling through the portal, but I think if they could have then they would have done that before. The one portal was inside a trailer and the other portal at the bottom of a lake, but what was stopping them from going through the 3rd portal, in the street?
Ultimately, if he hadn't died he would have faced prosecution for at least 1 death, maybe 2. I think the writers felt it was better to give him this character arc with a heroic death, than to take it the other direction.
What do you mean it was pointless? He lured the bats away so they wouldn’t follow them or go back to the house where Steve & them were at. You can be upset but his death was hardly “pointless”.
@@joshuaphillips1081 Eddie had no way of knowing that. How was he supposed to know what everyone was doing or going to do? In his mind he didn’t want the bats to follow him or Dustin and he didn’t want the bats to go back to the house and ruin the plan potentially so he made a decision to lure them away long enough for the plan to succeed.

I didn’t think that the show could make me cry over a character they just brought on this season and we didn’t get to spend much time with, but I was in tears during his death scene. It seemed unexpected. I really thought Steve was going to die because of the monologue he gave to Nancy about his dream to have a life with her. I remember thinking “Oh shit, they’re doing this to set up his death so that it will be more emotional given the life he wished to have.” In a way, I’m glad they subverted the typical “Man I’d really hate to die” death like they did with Bob Newby in season 2.
Made me cry twice in a matter of minutes.
I had a feeling it would be Eddie to die from the start because he was the one character I didn't want to.
