- In this video I will show you one of my new ant colonies. I will do a Messor barbarus setup and show you how I will keep the ants until the colony grows bigger. The Messor barbarus queen is very sensitive to light, so I tried to not exposer her to much in this video.

Nice, if I were you I would definitely make the length of tubing shorter. the reason you should do that is because you don't want the test tube to be at an angle so they can move the seeds further from the cotton and can have the eggs closer to the humidity
ah! i see! I will keep an eye on it so they don't move the eggs! So far they just stay in the test tube! :)

Wow, didn't expect you to do this type of video, but anyways congratulations on your new ant colony, hope they continue to grow well. I actually don't know much about messor babarus because I never experience keeping them, but I would say when it comes to feeding, you could also feed them fruit flies and other small insects as well but make sure there dead because these ants love to scavenge for dead insects, but of course they love seeds the most. Any more questions feel free to ask because I might be able to answer them. So glad that you decided to keep ants.

Thanks for the tips! As of now they have shut the entrance to the outworld multiple times after me trying to unblock it. So I guess they are not ready to live the test tube just yet.. :)

@@JohanExoticGlobal that is because they just do not feel comfortable enough yet to forge in the outworld, they do this sometimes for now you may want to just keep and feed them in the test tube until the next batch of workers hatch.

Wow Ants ? They are kind of creepy to me lol. But my son had an ant farm when he was young he entered it in a science fair lol the title was “ Why did my Ants die “ and he made a shoe box for people to put their comments in lol. So funny 😂 🤣

Sorry, it’s kinda a late reply, but how do you keep the ant formicarium moist? (I believe messor barbarus do like some humidity in their nests, but I could be wrong). Also where did you get this ant setup from? Or did you make it yourself :)
Thank you for you comment!! :) In the test tube there is water, and should be enough for the ants until the colony grow bigger. Now that the colony is bigger and have moved into the new nest I will apply water to the right corner. The formicarium is specially made to apply water to the nest there. I got the ants and setup from a polish website called AntCenter. Have a great day! :)
