As we say in the USA: this video is another HOME RUN (baseball reference!). Your videos are always the highlight of my weekend, particularly now as we are on the cusp of spring so suggestions of new and varied ideas are so wonderful! Thank you Alexandra for another great video! 🌸🌺🌷🌻😍👍
Thank you! I have slightly painful memories of playing baseball at the American school I went to as a child in the Caribbean. I wasn't very good at it! But I very appreciate your comments.
I really appreciate you for bringing up the different needs of people. You’re not just about showgardens, you also provide useful and suttle tips for a bigger group of people.
This is definitely my favourite UA-cam channel. Always a delight. Inspiring and informative, beautifully produced and presented, a joy to watch & listen to. Thank you SO much.
Thanks Alexandra for another lovely video of ideas. I particularly like the idea of moving a small table and chairs to be closer to the flowers. We have some very tall Japanese anenomes that I tend to hide amongst! Roll on the summer. 😘
Just a little info if someone is interested. If you have raw wood logs, the insects will definitely try to burrow into it. I covered my wood with boric acid and then poured nail polish remover over it. The acetone and boric acid is a way of pressure treating your own wood. It has really worked and the wood is really holding up.
Tqtq for this lovely video with beautiful variations of garden seating....💝💐 This is my first watch.. I usually watch your videos more than once...😊, that's how much I enjoy your videos...👍
So informative and succinct as your videos always are. It’s great that you covered tips on accessibility. I missed that you had a dedicated video on that subject. Off to watch it now! Have a lovely day.
Another lovely video, Alexandra! Finally spent a few hours in the garden today to lay some soaker hose and deal with dried twigs ... so restorative! Great DIY and accessibility tips here. Thank you!
Right at the start of this video, there is a view towards a dining area; is the tree in the foreground one of your birch trees which you have washed? I saw your video on washing birch trees a few days ago, and I was astounded! I had never seen trees washed like that, or even heard of the practice. The result is awesomely beautiful.
Garden seating decisions are the most difficult for me. Thank you for the ideas and perspectives. Especially like how to use natural or unexpected materials.☺️
I'm always fascinated by that because our winters are very like yours - our summers not so much! But it's the winters that largely dictate which plants will grow well and survive.
Hi Alexandra from America😊🌷 Love all the garden topics and ideas you cover, and you include so many for those of us with frugal budgets! Creativity and love of nature can make up for limited funds. I love garden design, became partially disabled 6 years ago, but will never disconnect with my love of gardening♥️. Have you ever heard of a way to rid lawns and flower beds of MOLES in an eco friendly way? They destroy my plants😟
Oh, dear this is the question of the day! And sadly I can't answer it - as I have a town garden, I have never suffered from moles, but I have heard a lot of despairing country dwellers talking about it (but not reaching any conclusion), so sorry.
Hi Alexandra, what a good Video and so usefull! I am always thinking about seating in the garden. For one it is still all in work and the space to sit down in the garden, is more slope then anything else. 😟 because its a rental, I can not just bring in a digger and change all. By the way, what are you doing with your shady corner? have a nice Weekend and take care. 🙋🏼♀️🌻
Thank you! With the shady corner I am going to temporarily plant it up while I decide, because that's the easiest option for the time being. It always takes me a long time to work out any more major change.
@@TheMiddlesizedGarden sometimes its best to take time and think a bit longer. I am sure it will look nice with plants. You may come across some place where you see just the thing and than you know what is right for your corner. 🙂
I have some trunks around a fire pit, but I had not thought of chainsawing them flat. Thanks. I see why you ignored my great idea that you grow hanging plants behind your retaining wall. Yes, it makes for seating. On the other hand a few childing chairs are more comfortable and people can look out at your lovely garden rather than at your lovely house. Perhaps people frequently sit on low wall, but that has not been my experience. You know what is best for you, but I think I was correct when I recommended hanging plants in the garden planters. Planters look much better when their hard surfaces are dappled. Cheers.
Ah, yes, I agree, definitely they do look better. I tend to find hanging plants a bit of a nuisance to water, however, so I never quite get round to doing them, but thank you!
@@TheMiddlesizedGarden Pardon, i used the incorrect term. I meant plants planted in the ground and grow downwards over a wall like Jasmine, ivy, etc. I wanted such plants and nicer ones to hang over the wall, but not if people will sit on them.
Yes an interesting talk on seating. just at the right time for me. Im really trying to build only a n arts and craft gardens so have stone curved benches and old London park type cast iron seating but for my folly have to sort out a Lutcheon style bench. Or two Victorian iron ones each side if cant find wooden bench to fit right across the back wall. One has to commission all classical garden benches as trade with Britain EU have stopped dead with customs charges so high no one will order from UK now sadly. Trouble with being an expat this time
In the section "Take a chair ...," starting at about 2:07, with a round table with a printed red cloth in the foreground, there are three green plants in pots in the background, perhaps evergreens, with largely parallel branches sticking up. Can you tell me what they are? Thank you, and thanks for another wonderful and refreshing video.
Thank you. I'm reasonably sure that you're referring to Pinus mugo or possibly another pine, which I had in a pot but which died, and which I don't have the name to. But definitely small pines of some kind.
I just love your videos! Do you have any suggestions for creating a seating area to enjoy a front yard garden? The best parts of my garden are the beds in the front of my house (west-facing). I'd like to put a bench or a chair facing the garden, but it seems awkward -- just floating in the middle of the grass. It's a small front yard and open to sidewalk and street. Also, I think it's great that you included information about wheelchair accessible gardens!
It's a tricky one, but I'd suggest perhaps anchoring the bench with some pots on either side or planting at the sides as well as the back? And either choose a very heavy bench or one that won't be too much of a problem if it gets stolen, if you have much front garden theft where you are.
I'll check that out, it should come up in the final credits. But maybe something went wrong, I'll sort it, and I'll also add it to the description below.
I love this lady! She is so inspirational and easy to watch!
Agreed
Thank you!
I so agree!
Yes, I’m getting there too!
The ‘chair and four tables’ made me chuckle
Me too!
"Goodbye!" I always watch untill the end to hear you say that 🤗
Greetings from my german garden! 🌞
Thank you for including accessible ideas for wheelchair users.

Because of the situation of my house, I’ve put seating on all four sides of my garden, so that I can catch the sun as it moves across the sky.
Good idea!
I lookforward to your videos each week. God bless!
Thank you!
