all of these low scores is exactly what makes Silverton such a gem. give me deep pow, good vibes, and a hot dog and beer any day over a $25 cheeseburger, crowds, and I-70 traffic
@@doyouevennaturebro4593 I like to ski 1 day before Silverton to get use to the elevation. Arrive early. Pick a group that matches your speed and ability. I personally like the slow groups. Bring snacks and water, beacon shovel probe. It's a great time, just get ready to work.
Johnathan you should go checkout Purgatory ski resort near Durango CO. It's often overlooked because of telluride, Silverton, and the epic pow of wolf Creek. They don't always get the most consistent snow but when it's good it's fun. No high alpine bowl skiing but some good stuff off lift 8 and the grizzly lift. Their terrain parks are awesome, and they have very cheap lodging and lift tickets if you plan in advance. It's where i skied my first double black when i was like 11, my brother took me down one of their steepest double black mogul chutes, lower bull run. I'm going to Wolf Creek February 11th and purg march 1st + 2nd. Hoping it dumps.
Follow the storms for Silverton, and expect to crap your pants depending where you go. Last time I went it was $99 for one heli-drop; expect an expensive day. Amazing if you catch the snow right; otherwise go to Telluride.
How do you get into the private ski hills? I grew up in Waukesha and I know Ausblick, Wisconsin, was close to where we lived but my buddies and I couldn't get in because it was private.
It's one chair so they don't want it to ever be crowded is why it's private. Suburbs of Milwaukee can charge a steep price just to make sure you can ski without waiting in line at all, It's a strange business model but elitism makes it work. I'm from the LaCrosse area, Aubslick is essentially a country club for skiing instead of a lame game like golf. Apply for a membership, wait for a long time (or know somebody), pay a fairly steep season pass price for that mound, then dodge children and geriatrics. I had a friend who was from an old school slalom racing family and his father was a member... If you go ripping it up at a resort like that, you'll get a talking too. I skied the moguls with my buddy normally for most the day, as we were going to leave we decided to embarass his dad with some hotdog shit (or everyday skiing to me), and got a tounge lashing from a manager or something for throwing safety grabs and shifty's in what was more or less an expert mogul area. Talk about inspiring the next generation, make ski racing a chore instead of igniting a passion for launching yourself off of shit.
he doesnt base it off just the price you pay, he bases if off how much you pay for the experience youre getting, and i’d say a 4 is good for heli skiing at $1200
Breckinridge, keystone, vail, beaver creek etc in the middle of the season cost just as much if not more on some days. Excluding the heli price, of course.
@@iMiike69 just saying it’s comparable in price - they should have 20+ more for the amount of people on the daily. 219 seems more justified for insane backcountry style drops with no crowds vs half a day in a lift line

I think there’s a better way to do lodging and food, like mayb easily accessible food option, big snow got a zero cuz there food sucks but it’s obvious in a mall u have lots of options right outside. And lodging hyland got a zero but it’s in a major city so it’s obvious u can get something decent near.
@@JohnathanBuckhouse tru I understand u brought out the mall but I guess what I’m saying is to just adjust the category to include “quality n prices of easily accessible food options” instead of food directly served at the place and having it affect the overall score. I guess the perspective I’m looking at is when a place is given a lower overall score but it’s bcuz of things that r easily solved it throws off the judgment of the place. I just watched lee canyon thanks so much I’m a park rider from Hawaii so cheaper west coast park options is what I’m looking for.
Why do you cover views and ease of access (things the result can’t control) but not snow conditions? It seems a bit silly considering these reviews are generally meant for travelers who want to find a resort to book a trip a trip at in advance, meaning snow consistency will be an important factor. The fact that snow conditions are left out makes these reviews less useful, imo.
If he were to cover snow conditions it would be completely inconsistent. Say he goes to a ski resort on the east coast right after a lot of rain In the late season obviously the snow is gonna be way worse. snow conditions all depend on when u go
It’s the inconsistency. It depends on when you go and whether or not it snows recently before your trip so there isn’t really a way to accurately judge that
Because good views are always gonna be good views and a long drive is always gonna be a long drive. But snow conditions vary drastically from one season or even one day to the next so you can't really compare 2 resorts unless you ski both of them many times

The skiing looks epic, but I'll take 70 min on I-70 over a 7 hour drive
100% the best ski area I've been to. Worth every penny.

Hyped for march 8th Purgatory to see what you think of our mountain!
I am stoked!
so exited to see your new vid drop tonight

I have been trying to go for years and every time the trip gets canceled 😂 Hope this season I can make it happen!
Last time I went to Purgatory the lady at the counter asked me why I wasn’t shredding at Wolf Creek with a base of 90” 😂
Can’t wait till you come to Greek peak in NY
Cool Vid you should try the resorts in Calgary & Banff AB sometime.

*when I said "crap your pants"...terrain is less scary than the port-o-potties at the base haha!
Unguided season pass is only like $190 which is a steal.
Sick!
