Gary, this is the best, and most encouraging advice I have heard about guitar playing to date. It really seems genuine and tailored to the learner. Thanks for posting this video!
Gary, Thanks for the great advice. I appreciate the personal touch in your thoughts. Most helpful for me as an earlier intermediate player: 1) establish a routine, 2) realistic goals that motivate me, 3) have fun (it’s called playing for a reason), 4) don’t just noodle although that’s better than nothing, 5) listen to good guitar music and UA-cam, documentaries, or other content about guitar/music, 6) set limits on that content and reviews/information about gear. It’s easy to get caught up in gear or listening to UA-cam videos vs focus on playing. It get’s easier and more fun as we play more and improve. Cheers!
You are giving good advice tips to guitarist starting their journey to learn how to sing and play guitar for beginners. This is also how I started playing long ago. Thanks.
GUITAR TRICKS, make a lesson about which CHORDS and which CHORD PROGRESSIONS can you use with each MODE, like phrygian dominant mode and harmonic minor mode, Lydian dominant, etc because certain altered chords you use the mixolydian mode and certain chord progressions like I -bii or I-bII you use phrygian mode. You should go over all this in a video lesson because its a must to know when going on stage with other musicians.
True Fire is the better choice for online guitar lessons. Guitar Tricks has done practically nothing to update their lessons, many tabs or flat out wrong or the sheet music and tabs are written out one way and the video is taught in another. The videos feel dated and half assed to rush content out the door when Guitar Tricks was trying to get ahead of the crowd back in the "Hype Train" online guitar lesson peak. Guitar Tricks keeps losing more and more songs, which again are taught in sloppy manner, feel like "It goes something like this" no it doesn't. True fire keeps growing and Guitar tricks jumped the shark and began to contract after Covid. Time to move on unless they step up their game.
Thank you sir, the best intro to an instrument I’ve seen; I play piano…now because of you, I want to learn guitar too!
Appreciate the support!

Just look for the patterns of the chords. Most songs repeat the same chords throughout the song
Thank you for watching!

Great Advice. I use your program but I also look forward to the various videos you share.
Awesome, thank you!
I'm older and what I struggle with when learning songs is remembering all the chords and note patterns that make up a song.
Practice makes perfect!
