    Hey guys and welcome to bonus video for today where I want to talk you through squalane and the benefits it can bring to your skincare routine.. Todays usual video will be coming later but I have had this one filmed for some time and couldn't find the right time to put it out so I thought why not have a bonus video for the end of the year... Happy New Year To All xxxxxx

    Great analysis again! I do think the “magic trick” to get the best from squalane is to not overdo the concentration. As our skin naturally produces the skinbarrier with only less then 0.5% hyaluronic acid it is easily understood that adding a 10% hyaluronic acid will in fact be counterproductive. The same goes for squalane. Btw, is it me or does your skin actually look healthier then a year ago and much more naturally glowing?

    • @MadAboutSkin

      Oh thank you so so much thats so kind of you to say :) ... I totally agree with you hun I think like with all things we should be using these in moderation to make sure we dont overload the skin.. Happy new Year and sending you lots of love xxxxx

      Do you have any references for the maximum concentration? I don't want to exceed it in my formulations!

    • @Inisiarev
      @Inisiarev 2 роки тому

      @@lizcademy4809 I can’t give you an exact %. Natural squalane is around 10% of the total lipids amount of the skin barrière. Roughly estimated I think the % squalane should not exceed the 3-5%, but I need to do more research and calculations to be sure and more precise.

    • @lizcademy4809
      @lizcademy4809 2 роки тому +1

      @@Inisiarev Please let me know. None of my references say anything about a maximum use ... they say to use it like any natural oil. I have some formulas that use 10-20% oils, I want to know how much squalane I can use in that oil fraction.

    • @Inisiarev
      @Inisiarev 2 роки тому

      @@lizcademy4809 My reference is naturally occurring squalane in the skin barrier. That is at peak levels, around being 20 y.o., between 10-12% of the total amount of lipids in the skin barrier. Natural lipids in there turn are approximately in the order of 35-40% of the natural skinbarrier. So, 10% of 40% makes 4% squalane naturally occurring in the skin barrier at peak levels. Other components of the natural skin barrier are f.i. Ceramides and skincells.

    Squalane is a staple ingredient in my formulation supply cabinet. Earlier today I added some to a cuticle balm I made. It's also in my basic body lotion, and an experimental face moisturizer.
    What's really nice about it is that squalane does not feel oily or greasy, even though it's technically an oil. I hate things that feel greasy, so this is perfect for my winter-dry skin.
    It is inexpensive. My 4oz bottle cost about $15 USD from a formulation supply store. Admittedly, I don't get a fancy dropper bottle, or even a plain one, but can buy those too.

    Squalane is not a new and hot ingredient. It`s just that people cannot find anything new to hype about. I`ve been using it for two years and it`s ok.... But nothing to rave about. I love it in my products, like you said in cleansers and moisturizers, not as oil, as it causes me breakouts....

    I love The Ordinary's Plant Derived Hemi Squalane. My skin loves this products, and I use it on my cuticles, hand and feet... especially getting ready for the summer! I also use TO Retinol 1% in Squalane, so my skin is getting its fair share of this ingredient. My skin does not react well to other oils, so I'm glad it can handle this one!❤️❤️

      Hi I like the hemi squalane and you never hear anyone mention it. I use it a lot as a hair oil - great to tame the frizz without being too greasy. I have super dry skin so it sinks into my skin really well and I even add a drop to foundations etc if I'm having an extra dry day. It's more affordable than the other oils in the range and I buy it a couple at a time. Best wishes.

      That’s what I love about this channel though - he gives recommendations for good products even if they’re ones he personally doesn’t use regularly as they might suit someone else. I don’t want to speak for Rob but I took the video the other day to mean he doesn’t tend to reach for the ordinary cleanser over other cleansers these days, not that he now considers it a bad product! ☺️

    I think you are using the terminology wrong. Lipids are oils, and oils don’t hydrate. Hydration means adding water to the skin, so you hydrate with water, water gels and water-loving ingredients like hyauluronic acid. Lipids lock in the hydration, ie they moisturize, so when talking about lipids (oils) the correct term is moisturize. Love, skin care nerd 🤓

    • @jackkimmerling4027
      @jackkimmerling4027 2 роки тому +4

      Dryness comes from lack of oil, dehydration comes from water.

    • @bbsail
      @bbsail 2 роки тому +2

      Lipids are a family so they can be simple or complex and not just only oils. The sub category of glycerides can have oils in them but also triglycerides. Cholesterol, cephalins, etc are also lipids

    • @PhreeSoul

      So, lipids moisturize. Water hydrates. (Hydro = literally means water)
