Can we all just take a moment to thank Alex for another great video! Not only does he spend the time shooting these, the edits and sound effects and B-roll are all on point. He also spends a lot of time writing the scripts before hand. Such well thought out videos! Just a note, you can also use newspaper to dry out your boots over night! Try to also think of ways that your sleep system can create minimal noise as though plastic can keep you dry, something like cardboard is more rigid and less noise when you roll over in your sleep. If you’re in an echoey abandoned building, that could draw a lot of attention to people nearby. Anyway, these things can be endless to refine. Do what’s best for you but stay as light as possible for simplicity and quick mobility!

Wool blanket is perfect. In my hometown, Zamora, we have traditional ones called "manta Zamorana". Pure virgin merino wool. Great vídeo compañero. Stay safe
I’m in Ukraine right now, and have been in two other SHTF situations in Greece and Germany myself. One thing you mentioned which I consider as absolutely crucial is a physical map of your surroundings. We have a brain fog from all the Internet and GPS services. We barely know our neighborhoods and city anymore. While my dad used to know every street by name and every shop, I can barely navigate by name of the street. The first thing to go down will be GPS and Internet.
I would add two car sunshades. Find some camo netting and put it over your sleep kit. Look like a pile of leaves. I really like the USMC Bivy cover. 29 ounces. Tough. Water resistant. Folds quickly and fits a backpack. Wear warm clothes layered. A big shower curtain liner is a ground cover and tarp. I like cheap fleece couch throws. Lightweight. Cheap. And WARM.
If you find a lumber yard, look for those white covers from skids of lumber. They're Tyvek, lightweight and waterproof. They can be used to improvise a waterproof and windproof shelter. Usually they're white in color, though I've seen them in brown and black.
Tyvek can be and useful material! I didn't consider it because I've always seen it white , but If I could find it in black or brown it would be great! thanks for sharing!
@AlexWander I should have stated I already read lots of UL hiking and survival books before that ordeal. I also had some outdoor experience, but nothing can teach you about 200 straight days with no home.
Alex Wander, very good video. One thing you should consider is an Alpaca wool poncho. They work well along with military rain ponchos and poncho liners (woobies.) They add an additional layer of warmth and concealment as they don't look 'militaristic' so you can blend in with others easier. Also, combined with the wool blanket you have, a wool poncho gives you an extras layer of very warm insulation.
Absolutely enjoyed this video, a lot!! It took me a while to work out what SHTF meant. But I got there in the end. TBH I learned my lesson about city living and escaped to the country many years ago, and I am so pleased that I did. However I have friends & family in the city and one never knows if you will be called on to help in a SHTF scenario. Information is Knowledge & Knowledge is Power. Thank you very much.
City roads in shtf may be blocked so this is on foot or motorcycle can exit on railroad tracks but safety can be a concern. Outside city's there are paths a small vehicle may navigate where electric lines run. Get a map of that network now

I'm only two minutes in so far, and I must say I love your videos. This is more for if you're running scenarios in your city right now. Just wanted to point out for anyone that might be interested, cities are naturally warmer due to the density of the population, the pollution, buildings and so on. While the goal here it to leave as quick as you can, if you decide to hunker down in the city and you lets say leave a few weeks or a month after SHTF. I would account for a few more degrees of difference in temperature being colder than what you might be used to within city limits during your dry runs. TLDR; If you do test runs of this kind of thing, if you think its cold now. Without cars and millions of people, the city will be a lot colder than you're used to after just a week or two.

I don't really comment to channels but, for some reason you remind me of myself I guess. Your ideas for sleeping systems were great. For me, I made myself a wool poncho with a hood. Same size as a miltary poncho. Really warm and comfortable. I used it once in January with Temps in the 20s degrees and wind at 15 mph. I only wore a T-shirt and normal pants and with no hat. I was sitting on a chair with no protection for about 2 or 3 hours. I was very comfortable and did not feel the wind. However the blanket I used was thicker compared to other wool blankets. Very good Video. A nice addition would be a military ground sheed like the one from the german army. Very rugged and easy to carry. Also for layers a merino buff would be a must have for me.
One thing ive thought about with planning for these scenarios is health. But with a different end goal. I know many folks around my age that snore really loudly. Every one of them are overweight and/or unhealthy. Imagine finding a secluded spot to hide away only to give up your location while you are asleep and snoring. Maybe a bit random but i do think it's an element that maybe gets overlooked.

I went camping in a snowstorm. That night temperatures hit nearly 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I was relatively warm at night. I made made several layers to lay on to keep my body from losing heat into the ground. I had a simple sleeping bag, but what really made the difference was my wool blanket.
@@AlexWander i wish they were good memories , but i learned somthing about survival . The wool blanket helped him blend in or hide his shape while sitting in the trenches which helped save is life . Giving him the element of surprise ! Also I hear it can help hide you from thermal cameras .

I have been talking about thermal shield for years. I keep a piece with my hammock instead of a expensive under quilt. Put it around my torso inside my sleeping bag one frigid night. It's so versatile. If you find cardboard and paint, you can make the CB waterproof. A silk long sleeve shirt is also amazing.
I carry 3 drum liners, woobie, body warmers that's pretty much it..rain poncho for shelter or for cover..I work in cities but live in the mtns.. another awesome video.. thanks again

Great content. Thank you very much. It becomes more and more obvious that surviving in the woods is not a real option for city slickers. If there is a bug out location - great. But going into the European "Wilderness" should be the last option - unless someone is really capable and experienced. This is why a appreciate your content about urban survival.
Even in Central European "wilderness" you can disappear. Issue is food. You will just not be able to get enough from the land and there will be other people hunting. But, on the other hand, in real SHTF, 90% will be gone after first winter and the rest will keep together in cities. Surviving in the wild, living of the land is really, really hard.
I think one good idea could be sleeping on roofs although more exposed to the wind it gives a lot of advantages being able to see everything and not be seen every side is an entrance and escape if you're good at scaling and if you're at the center of the roof you can setup cardboard walls to break wind since it won't be visible
Im "proud" to say i actually have that silver liner in my ghb and 100l plastic bags, as part of my rest system too. It seemed to me the best bang for my €. And its light. My ghb is prepared to get me and one of my kids home, from the farest city i usually travel with them (normally with only one. But in case i have 2, i can make it work, and if i have all 3 i have other stuff in my car that my oldest can carry - kinda works as a modular system, because i just cant fisically carry everything for the 4 of us on my back, plus potentially having to carry on and off 1 of the little ones). By default, its prepared with my middle child in mind ( that has spetial needs). If it works for him, it works for the others too. I really apreciate your dif approuch to this subject, having the surrounding in mind - not just telling us to buy stuff -, or as we say in Portugal "desenrascando" (its kinda of a mindset that makes you make the best with what you have). I really like the fact that you mention the needs of the rest of the family too. Plus, you are in europe! Thank you!
The bubble wrap, while being a good insulator, could “pop” when the bubbles are compressed, which is concerning. It could alert others around you are not aware of in the same building/area and attract unwanted attention.
Excellent advice! I agree with the sleeping system. Clothing is very important merino wool and layer your clothing. My clothing system is merino wool and it's what I wear all the time summer and winter. Always looking to improve my clothing system.😎
@AlexWander, another option to consider that I teach my clients is to have a storage unit - not sure if you have those in Italy[?] - and to have it set-up with enough supplies to live comfortably in the event that you have to leave your house. It doesn't need to be a big unit, as the smaller the unit the easier it is to heat and cool, and defend in the event you are forced to do so. For those that have a secondary "bug out" location, but may not be able to get there immediately, a storage unit between your house and secondary location is ideal. It's also a way to keep supplies stored away from prying eyes and so others do not know what you have if you live in a suburban or urban area where there are multiple people around. Also, a storage unit is highly ideal for those living in an apartment or condo who have limited space.

Another great video! Glad you mentioned train tracks, they form part of my plan. I have 2 strong routes from the city to my secondary location (which i am hoping to change). 1 is over a small mountain, 2nd is via railway tracks. Both are less than 20 miles on foot and "easy" going. The car/van/motorcycle I have would not be a viable transport option for us from the city.

My current plan is pretty simple, get home, grab family hike to secondary location I have got set up in a small town away from the city :) I feel lucky to have the ability to have an emergency plan in place, even if it's never used.
@AlexWander yes :) some may think one plan is not enough, but once were out of the city here things get alot easier. I plan on following your lead and running a few routes to check timings and "unknown variables" along alternate paths that I have not yet tried! Thanks for the inspiration
Shipping pallets are awesome. They can be used to provide structure to a shelter and keep you off the ground. You want to put something down on top of them, because they are treated with chemicals. Don't burn them for firewood.
For such a small channel the production quality is amazing. Due to your accent, some words are a little hard to understand so consider adding uncommon words to the video description. I hope that your channel grows full of organic and engaged viewers.
From homeless here its rare to see someone by themselves, a lone tent/tarp/cardboard. If they are solo likely were intoxicated and passed out on sidewalk or against building. Tent cities as i call them start w a few then grow to many. But they never all combine...they remain clumps of tents. As much as they steal from you, others will help if they can at least w knowledge. Around the wrong people you could lose all of that gear if it appears new/attractive. Same w shelter or bunker down space expect if it catches attention someone curious will come. Camo netting or pile on junk. Noise, toileting, setting fires w propane, cleanliness all real issues will need to solve for. Homeless here ruin the natural soil, water, drive every animal away.

Now Im using Garmin instintc but battery isn't so good, and i find using GPS and other features make me blind, and I don't think what I do when I go something, because I have watch. Disagree on the railroad tracks. People will go that way. There are police that patrol the tracks. Instead I reccomend the high tension electric wire right of way. There is always a dirt road that is maintained enuff to provide concealment while you travel. You won’t likely run into anyone and there is metal gates that are locked and block vehicle access to the public. Plenty of hiding spots too if you need to sleep a bit.

Honestly our countries are made by overpopulated areas , police is not enough to control the entire population and during any possible SHTF scenario they will prioritize to keep under control the most part of it while trying to keep safe city infrastructures , the 60% of the population of a city are going to move away by car jamming every possible street, 30% or more are going to stay in their home , for the remaining 10% maybe only the 3% will take a rail road track plus we have to consider that during an emergency scenario the electricity is often shut down for safety reasons , but hey this is only my opinion 🙏🏻

Great content. Thank you very much. It becomes more and more obvious that surviving in the woods is not a real option for city slickers. If there is a bug out location - great. But going into the European "Wilderness" should be the last option - unless someone is really capable and experienced.
This is why a appreciate your content about urban survival.
Even in Central European "wilderness" you can disappear. Issue is food. You will just not be able to get enough from the land and there will be other people hunting. But, on the other hand, in real SHTF, 90% will be gone after first winter and the rest will keep together in cities. Surviving in the wild, living of the land is really, really hard.

I think one good idea could be sleeping on roofs although more exposed to the wind it gives a lot of advantages being able to see everything and not be seen every side is an entrance and escape if you're good at scaling and if you're at the center of the roof you can setup cardboard walls to break wind since it won't be visible

Im "proud" to say i actually have that silver liner in my ghb and 100l plastic bags, as part of my rest system too. It seemed to me the best bang for my €. And its light.
My ghb is prepared to get me and one of my kids home, from the farest city i usually travel with them (normally with only one. But in case i have 2, i can make it work, and if i have all 3 i have other stuff in my car that my oldest can carry - kinda works as a modular system, because i just cant fisically carry everything for the 4 of us on my back, plus potentially having to carry on and off 1 of the little ones).
By default, its prepared with my middle child in mind ( that has spetial needs). If it works for him, it works for the others too.

The bubble wrap, while being a good insulator, could “pop” when the bubbles are compressed, which is concerning. It could alert others around you are not aware of in the same building/area and attract unwanted attention.

@AlexWander, another option to consider that I teach my clients is to have a storage unit - not sure if you have those in Italy[?] - and to have it set-up with enough supplies to live comfortably in the event that you have to leave your house. It doesn't need to be a big unit, as the smaller the unit the easier it is to heat and cool, and defend in the event you are forced to do so.
For those that have a secondary "bug out" location, but may not be able to get there immediately, a storage unit between your house and secondary location is ideal. It's also a way to keep supplies stored away from prying eyes and so others do not know what you have if you live in a suburban or urban area where there are multiple people around. Also, a storage unit is highly ideal for those living in an apartment or condo who have limited space.

@AlexWander, you should always use silk as the base layer next to your skin and then merino wool over that. Much better performance and warmth factor.

Another great video! Glad you mentioned train tracks, they form part of my plan. I have 2 strong routes from the city to my secondary location (which i am hoping to change). 1 is over a small mountain, 2nd is via railway tracks. Both are less than 20 miles on foot and "easy" going. The car/van/motorcycle I have would not be a viable transport option for us from the city.

My current plan is pretty simple, get home, grab family hike to secondary location I have got set up in a small town away from the city :) I feel lucky to have the ability to have an emergency plan in place, even if it's never used.

Shipping pallets are awesome. They can be used to provide structure to a shelter and keep you off the ground. You want to put something down on top of them, because they are treated with chemicals. Don't burn them for firewood.

From homeless here its rare to see someone by themselves, a lone tent/tarp/cardboard. If they are solo likely were intoxicated and passed out on sidewalk or against building. Tent cities as i call them start w a few then grow to many. But they never all combine...they remain clumps of tents. As much as they steal from you, others will help if they can at least w knowledge. Around the wrong people you could lose all of that gear if it appears new/attractive. Same w shelter or bunker down space expect if it catches attention someone curious will come. Camo netting or pile on junk. Noise, toileting, setting fires w propane, cleanliness all real issues will need to solve for. Homeless here ruin the natural soil, water, drive every animal away.

Disagree on the railroad tracks. People will go that way. There are police that patrol the tracks. Instead I reccomend the high tension electric wire right of way. There is always a dirt road that is maintained enuff to provide concealment while you travel. You won’t likely run into anyone and there is metal gates that are locked and block vehicle access to the public. Plenty of hiding spots too if you need to sleep a bit.

Honestly our countries are made by overpopulated areas , police is not enough to control the entire population and during any possible SHTF scenario they will prioritize to keep under control the most part of it while trying to keep safe city infrastructures , the 60% of the population of a city are going to move away by car jamming every possible street, 30% or more are going to stay in their home , for the remaining 10% maybe only the 3% will take a rail road track plus we have to consider that during an emergency scenario the electricity is often shut down for safety reasons , but hey this is only my opinion 🙏🏻
