I was part of the outside team that rewrote the rules for this game from the Errata and a few thousand hours of play. We really pushed hard to make the rules very complete so that things that were confusing in the 1st edition were very well laid out and explained with no guesswork... and we think we achieved it. Working to improve this game for the next wave Edition was one of the high points of my life. Thanks for this great review.
You guys did an outstanding job. Tide of Iron got me into complex tabletop games and it’s still up there as possibly my favorite game of all time. I appreciate the work that you guys put into it!
@@MrDragoon73 Also a pity they didn't release an upgrade kit for those of us who invested ion all the original boxes, and an even bigger one that they never got to release a Pacific version to complete the set
I managed to find and buy a used game of ToI and played my first game with a buddy today. I was very pleasantly surprised! It played very well and I think it has great potential for interesting strategic play once I get to know the game a little better 🙂
Nice review! I know I've been reading a lot about the scenarios, and that is the biggest thing I am curious about with this new core set. Looks like 1A did a great job on getting the core set revamped, they appear to be deserving of a cookie or two! If the scenarios are cleaned up nice, then I'd even throw in a glass of milk for them too!
I have not played through the new scenarios but they spent a lot of time going through them and working on balance and play. I'm very excited to see what comes next now that the core set is back in production.
I’m a gamer of Memoir’ 44, and I think it’s time ….time to me, to enjoy this new great set of tide of iron ! Back then, I hesitated but now… I haven’t got false excuses… I think I will not be patient to wait a French version. So, Thanks a lot Chief for this review !
How did the quality of the infantry and bases compare to the original version? I also have the tomb box and always find it frustrating to get infantry squads to fit snugly into the base so they don't fall out every time you move the squad around. Some squads didn't fit at all.
Thanks, Chief, I have the coffin box as well as all the expansions. Got my copy in 2008(?) maybe. But much fun. Considering getting the next wave edition.. damn my ocd.
I would have appreciated more info on the plastic figures. The original release of the game (the copy I have) was subject to sub-par molding, resulting in a lot of difficulty getting the plastic figures to easily snap in and out of the bases and a frustrating game setup. 1A Games says that they have improved this issue. Do you find that to be the case?
I popped several in and out. Not all by any means. I did have one guy that I almost broke the peg. It needed to be trimmed down a bit. That was 1 in 20. Not a definitive test to be sure. Chief.
Thank you Sir. The way you can customize your squads is very unique and really allows a player to create a fighting force in his style or to even try some off the wall combinations. Leaders have a lot of cool abilities. I'm a sucker for anything WW2 however. Chief
The Next Wave will be the exact same size as all the expansions. They will all store very nicely together. My two coffin boxes are crazy big and at least for me they got beat up due to their size.
Hey i seen next wave on clearance for 45 dollars. I would be new to TOI would i need to buy any of the older versions or just stay with next wave expansions only?
I am seriously considering if this game should be a next hobby mini-project of mine. It looks very fascinating :) I think I'll test the waters with some of the regular nerd gang :) Thanks for sharing :)
Not sure Tom is ready for that just yet. When he's ready I think we could come up with a system for the three HAMTAGers to rate a top 50. You just no we have to be different. Let Tom know if you're really interested in this. I have not talked to him. I'm sure he doesn't want to overload on Top 100's. A top 50 from HAMTAG would be fun. Bart
Hello Bart, sadly I missed the recent reprint of Day of the Fox expansion. I found out it existed do to the FFG holiday sale. Do you think its ever going to get a second reprint for the next wave version of this expansion? Thank you for your time!

is there a website that offers the "Core Set" for a decent price, Amazon only has the larger coffin box version for almost $100.

Well done, Chief...not normally a WWII guy, but this might be fun to add to the collection.

Wow, I've never had a first edition of a game. That core set box looks really nice and really easy to store

Great review, will HAMTAG be doing a top 50 games of all time ?

It's on sale now at Miniature Market.
@@philfrank5601 Thanks! I eventualy managed to get one copy but this prices are a steal. I hope most fans get to complete their collections.
I don't understand why they didn't add hand grenade rules ?
Is this a good introduction to wargaming for a 12 year old? Or should I look at something that is slightly less complex, like Memoir 44? Thanks.
Igo Hego, That's a character name if I ever heard one!
That would be a great BGG name. Bart
Damn! Now I want a cookie. D;
Oh boy were they good. Think chunks of chips. Chief. That little nibble I took on camera just didn't do it.
Chief
Lol on the caveman speak IGO EGO !
Still, it has hexagones, so its a bad game to me.
