In this lesson we will be looking at The Who's hit song, "My Generation"!
There is a fundamental part of the song that most people miss -- this track was actually recorded with the guitar dropped down a whole tone! This is the way to play the song in the correct, original way.

What’s your favourite Pete Townsend riff?
This is in my top ten! Pinball Wizard is amazing as well!
This and Pinball Wizard … especially the acoustic intro
So many! Pinball Wizard takes some beating!
Can't Explain - simple and hooky
Ok, so not a guitar riff exactly 'Won't Get Fooled Again'
Absolutely fantastic playing!! Thanks for the great lesson Jamie!
Thank you kindly Warren!
Fantastic video Jamie!
Many thanks!
Just found this fantastic video, woodshedding now
Glad you enjoyed it
Top job and great tone
Thanks Shirley!
People always throw shade at Pete as a guitar player, but I find his stuff mysterious and hard to figure out and play correctly while I've mastered certain other guitar players music fairly easily.
This is an iconic riff
@@SixStringAlliance absolutely...and I think Pete never lifted licks or phrases like so many before him and after him...very underrated and a totally original musician
Well I’ve been playing wrong for about 25 years! Thanks mate
Go get some rest and feel better soon Andy!
@@Producelikeapro thanks so much!
@@TheGuitarGeek hope you feel better!
Haha we all have Andy!
Haven't we all Andy? LOL
The sound and your playing kick ass, sir! 🙂
Thank you
Great video and info Jamie . Thanks mate 😊👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Craig!
You mean to say I’ve smashed up loads of guitars and amps over the years and been doing it wrong all this time??? Bugger!!
Hahaha sorry about that
Nice!🎸🤘
Thanks Daniel!
to save you tuning down if you only have one guitar for the nights gig, use
1. F sharp open E string, 2. G sharp to A flat chord at first fret with F sharp bass note 6th string & F sharp 1st string. 3. A with G note bass. 4. B chord 4th fret open A string bass.
Should get you by.
This and Pinball Wizard …. Especially the acoustic intro !
Now that’s a great suggestion!!
My favorite Pete riff? There's to many riffs to count.
The Who , like the song says, Long Live Rock!
Saw them in '75 in Philly-Yeeeahh!
I need to look at some more who riffs!!
Just about anything except Squeeze Box
Jamie's a legend, I remember him from Musician's Channel on SKY TV, riffing away on his musicman, learned alot from him!
Haha wow, that was a VERY long time ago. 😊🎸
favourite riff by the who there quite a few off them but go with won't get fooled again
I love the Van Halen version of won’t get fooled again, how Eddie did the keyboard part on guitar.
@@SixStringAlliance to be honest learning van halen music is not that easy note for note
@@martinpiper-ku3vi I know only too well!! I have 5 Van Halen DVD’s released with Lick Library which were very challenging, plus I’ve done quite a bit on EVH here on my channel
Keep Rockin' Mate
Cheers Pete
I feel like when I play this for my self, the power chords just sound so off
Surely you have missed a bit out in explaining the intro. When you demonstrate for first time you alternate between hammering E (open) and 5th fret then next time hammer 3rd to 5th fret . This is not in the slowed down playing Am I right or or is my brain tricked by the rhythm. It is the best explanation I have seen but still confused.
I think a made a bit of a mess up when I edited it.. sorry about that.. I really hope it didn't take away from you enjoying it. sometimes things slip under the radar and i think this was one of those time.. apologies.
@@SixStringAlliance It made me more determined to work out what is going on. It is the best tutorial I have seen. If I am right live at Leeds is in standard tuning?
