Hi lisa! I’ve been on oral minoxidil for a year and is fantastic for regrowth but if you want to get the shedding under control you would need to add an anti-androgen like finasteride, spiro, dutasteride or bicalutamide. Obviously you would need to ask your derm about this but an anti-androgen is as important as minoxidil since it targets the thinning process itself so don’t forget to ask about this on your next visit :)
Thank you for the update Lisa! It is possible to have both telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia at the same time. For me it was a big telogen effluvium that unmasked androgenetic alopecia. I ve been having quite a few such episodes since. I hope all goes well for you! ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience, your openness is truly inspiring. I found it really informative and now feel more educated and aware about this than I did before. Your insights have made an impact ❤Wishing you continued progress and strength in your journey!
Hi Lisa, greetings from Romania (Europe). I've been looking your videos related hair issue since long time ago (since your first ones). I found you, because I have similar problem: something called Chronic Telogen Effluvium - which now seems to affect visible temporal areas (temples) - probably known as triggered AGA (but it's not certain). I've been to many dermatologists, endo and hematologist.... the only diagnostic was: diffuse alopecia and iron deficiency (low ferritin under 70ng/ml) and low vitamin D3, and quite in lower end vitamin B12. I've tried different iron pills, different D3s, anti-hair loss supplements, no improvement at all. I quite wonder how I still have any hair left!?🤭I am happy that you share with us Minoxidil Journey. I didn't tried, yet, but some hair-loss tonic from Biotrade Sebomax HR, Neoptide Ducray, Rosemary water spray, Aminexil ampoules, nothing worked 🙂. I decided to follow hematologist advice and take 2 months 60mg of Sucrosomial Iron/day then followed by 2 months 30mg/day... Plus, added 200 mg Magnesium/day for vit. D3 absorbtion ...and 10.000UI/day of vitamin D3 'cause mine was 20ng/ml in March 2024. Everytime I go to test my vit. D3 is low: 20 or 30 ng/ml. Unfortunately, my job = don't get in the Sun too much, despite I have a garden around my house and some nice/fluffy rabbits. Was wondering how your vitamin D3 level is? How your Ferritin level is?. I am part of FB Group called "The Iron Protocol" and the another called "Nutrient Teams: Improving Health with Magnesium, Vitamin D & Their Mates" and many others called "Female Thin Hair & Hair Loss Solutions" and "Telogen Effluvium Support Group", due to the fact I do not know what to do more.. :-) Exactly like in your case my friends and family says I have a nice hair, my problem is long-term shedding which will eventually go show bald patches (already on temples, and is worse month by month). I even called(it's free to write them and you'll have a phone chat with them) one Trichologist Team from Dr. William Gaunitz(check UA-cam channel) and speak with and send them pictures of my hair/scalp. They said "Telogen Effluvium" and they gave me 10.000UI vit D3 and a lot of Iron intake from supplements. Probably all of our problems, started since 2020, since pandemic hit; cause C-virus use a lot of nutrients from our body. I am a Pepsi (soda drinker) - which, probably, do not help my gut flora and steal nutrients, as well. Btw, do you drink by any chance sodas or caffeine? I am glad you said that we are not alone. I feel it. 😘
I have the exacte same case , since octobre 2022 i had covid and after that TE and now its chronic , sometimes it decrease but before my period its increase
I tried everything and visited 8 dermatologist ( in my country its not expensive ) but they can't understand the case they said its probably went to androgenitic alopecia but for me its diffuse i start losing from the back 1 year ago but now its general
I’ve had shedding from telogen effluvium a couple years ago and it hit me like a brick this year, seeing a lot of my scalp. I’ve been convinced I had pattern baldness. Considering your ongoing and over four year journey, do you think I will be fine in a couple months? I’ve never experienced this much shedding ever. I feel like the intensity is alike to chemotherapy. I’m treating it very seriously now. Thanks so much for posting!
Hi thanks for the update! I was also diagnosed with AA and I use foam minoxidil daily I had good results. My dermatologist wanted to put me on oral minoxidil but I know it can lower your pressure and have other side effects. Have you noticed any after taking?
Hello, new subscriber here. What blood work did you get done for androgenetic alopecia? My hair fall is exactly like yours like losing more than 500 haur strands everyday.
Hello Lisa, i have been experiencing excessive hair shedding for 11 months now. I am 21. 3 months after I stopped birth control my hair started falling out. My dermatologist told me its just probably stress she didn’t even want to see my scalp. This whole year has been so stressful for me. Googling infos online just makes you feel you are chronically ill so you stressing yourself even more. I just want to ask if you were shedding very short new hair as well or only long one. Thank you for your video
@@LisavanWyk_ But how is prevention possible without treating the cause? For example: Minoxidil does nothing to prevent hair loss in men, you need a 5ar inhibitor for that.
Any update on the oral minoxidil? I'm in the same boat! Started using topical minoxidil but now its not as effective anymore and I'm shedding bad! Looking to start oral min next week!
Doctors say that medication during pregnancy is dangerous! How do I continue the routine if I become pregnant or should I stop if I am planning to become pregnant?
I've been taking oral minoxidil for over a year. Plenty of hair thickening on my head. Minor to no hair thickness increase everywhere else. My eyebrows are slightly fuller, but most other body hair as been the same. Minoxidil alone is not enough to stop hair loss from androgenetic alopecia. It will only help mask it by thickening your hairs, but your hair follicles will still eventually die. Most people will take an anti androgen like finasteride or spironolactone, but these may cause birth defects if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant.
Love your videos I’m 48 yrs old been losing my hair gradually in the last 2.5 years. Been to 3 doctors who all tell me my blood work is perfect so must be andro alopecia I started minoxidil one month ago and bought elite irestore hoping I see a change soon. All my hair lose is sides of head yet when seeing pictures the andro genetic alopecia seems to present itself in the pair line scalp showing. Any comments ? You don’t have this problem. Is your hair shedding all throughout?
To be honest it’s hard to answer this because my hair overall doesn’t look “thinner” per se. It’s just falling out a lot more than it has been previously!
I had very mild AGA, I took Spiro and it ruined my gut. I was shedding while I was on it and even after. Chronic shedding since. Took topical minox for a year - net differenc wasn’t great. I even lost eye brow hair while I was on it. I also suspect something else causing the constant shedding.

Potentially! I actually don’t know. It’s a good question!! ❤️❤️
We literally have the same experience :( I'm worried about getting pregnant in the future and all my hair falling out
I know … it’s scary but beyond our control ❤️
Elevated female hormones during pregnancy hopefully help not to led to hair fall .

Hey for how long have you been facing this problem@@inesovayavratch6876
Looking forward to your next update. I was prescribed oral minoxidil for TE last month, but too scared to fill the prescription...
Will definitely update you guys on what happens ❤️

I haven’t personally yet! But to be honest I have such a low dose (1mg) so I can’t imagine it’ll do anything crazy symptom wise. ❤️

Blood work and a biopsy! I’m so sorry. I definitely recommend going to a dermatologist. Changed my life

Minoxidil is a growth stimulant so it's surprising that it would minimize your shedding
It also elongates the anagen hair growth cycle leading to less hair shedding :)
@@CoFGillesdeRais Correct, but wouldn't that just delay the shedding? Since it doesn't address the root cause of the shedding
The root cause of the shedding isn’t something I have control over so I need to prevent it
