Body momentum is downward and didn’t survive the ground. If you count this as a catch then every week there’s fumbles just like this. Players catch it get 2 feet hit the ground and drop it , or catch it with 2 feet and get hit and drop it. So all of those must be fumbles too. It’s either incompletions or fumbles. This happens every week. That’s why you don’t catch the ball on the sidelines and toe drag then drop the ball.
I feel like the NFL intentionally posts videos like this to bring out the Cowboys haters in the comment section.

XLQUARANTINE 1 the thing is. If you change the catch rule. Then there’s going to be a lot more fumbles and turnovers. And I’d rather have my team throw a controversial incomplete than turnover the ball. You see, if you change the rule so that you don’t have to establish as much possession, players who “catch” the ball under the new rule and then drop it will have fumbled the ball, whereas in the old ruling it would have just been called an incomplete pass. People think about the catch rule really only in the context of touchdowns but in open play it means WAAAY more fumbles

the game vs green bay was there for dallas to take. there were 2 HUGE opportunities for dallas in the first half, and they didn't seize them:
1. fumble by green bay on a kick return following a dallas td that james hannna somehow didn't secure deep in pack territory.
2. coming away with no points on the final drive before halftime.
and say what you will about the 2014 dallas o-line, which was tremendous, but demarco murray was sensational that year, as well.
Love the "What If" video, but hate it as well. I remember that year every game of that year Dallas went undefeated on the road and Romo got second or third place for the MVP. That was Tony Romo's last full injury-free season and it was DeMarcos last full season as a Dallas Cowboy.

A few years ago , my Houston Texans had a touch down in the end zone, ruled as an incomplete pass, because dude had "no control" of the ball (but he came down with it). The next day..Steelers make SAME catch, SAME spot, SAME lack of "control"...RULED A TOUCHDOWN ! Inconsistent, and we needed every Win to get into the playoffs.

As frustrating as the no catch was, the fact that Tyrone Crawford tipped that last pass probably frustrates me more. That ball went right to Cobb. Had it gone in another direction, it's an incompletion or Orlando Scandrick picks it and goes down the sideline for an 80 yard pick-six.

Put it this way, Bryant caught the ball at the 5 went 12 feet with possession of the football, hit the ground, then fumbled, recovered his own fumble and scored. That should have been the correct call.

We watched Football for decades without wondering what was a catch, pass interference, roughing .. Now over the past 5 years nobody knows WHAT THE HELL is a call or not?? This is why i stopped watching and most of all caring about the NFL like i used to. Sad they have RUINED the game. A game we all used to love.
Me and my family have been diehard packer fans all our lives, but Dez damn well caught that. It's sad how much of a morale killer it had to be for him the rest of his career

Let's not forget the fact that the Cowboys defense couldn't catch a man playing on crutches all game. But, that must be Romo's fault also.
Even if you use the old rule, it is still a catch… the new rule just makes it easier to interpret that.. he got three steps down (runner established) then he dives forward to break the plane. The ground cannot cause a fumble if you are being touch down by the opponent. If they want to say he didn’t “control” the ball in its “entirety of the catch” that rule is obsolete because he had came down had three feet touches, so now he’s considered a runner. Even when you look at the ball hitting the ground, Dez maintains control of the ball… even using the old catch rules, by the sequences of events he nullifies the arguments made against it not being a catch. It was a catch. Once he takes that extra step he isn’t a pass receiver catching the football, he is a runner diving into the end zone

A play not talked about much is that damn 3rd and 11 Green Bay had at the Dallas 35 with about 2 min left in the game. Rodgers's pass is tipped and somehow still makes it to the receiver. They don't make that play, they settle for a long FG on 4th. Totally changes the complexity of the ending. The Boys may have been afforded a chance to try and score again w/ say, 1:45 or more left on the clock.

I remember the moment this happened , it was 2014 of course I was a 7 year old child it was me and my father at my half brothers house I stayed the weekend with my bro and brought my 88 jersey cuz I never knew where I was gonna watch the game so I take it every where each sunday, anyways I believe it was probably like 7 idk but my dad came to pick me up he was in his Romo jersey he decided we will just stay for the game.my brother is a fan but not a die hard like me. Why are we acting like the Cowboys would have won this game? They would have still LOST! How do we know this with certainty? Because after the Dez catch the Packers march right up the field on the Cowboys to the 25 yard line!!! And you may say, but they didn't score a touchdown. But MOST teams wouldn't seek to run up the score in the Packer's position. They typically will run the clock out just like the Packers did. I still don't think it would have been a catch. There is no clear evidence that he reached for the ball. What was clear is that he was still adjusting the ball high for possession and he fell while the ball was still high in the air. He didn't raise the ball or reach for the end zone.
Momentum carrying you forward while you are still in the same position you are in when you supposedly made a "catch" is not a football move.
This video is torture. Regardless of what anybody says we had a great chance to win the SB.
We already were given the answer to that with the 4:30 left in the game. Green Bay drove (not "would have" but ACTUALLY DID) doen into FG territory. They took a knee, but "if" Dez had caught that ball instead of bouncing it off the turf and given DAL the lead, Green Bay simply would have kicked the game winning FG and beat DAL regardless. Watch the rest of the game. We all saw it

It WAS ruled a catch! The ruling was overturned, which makes the call even more unbelievable.
