Pictures of the Vredefeesten Sint-Niklaas 3 September 2005. The Vreedefeesten is a hot air balloon event and a city festival in the East Flemish city of Sint-Niklaas. It is organized in memory of the liberation in early September 1944 at the end of the Second World War. What once started as small-scale Liberation Celebrations has grown into one of the five most important balloon happenings in the world.
The special thing about this balloon meeting is that the balloons take off in the center of the city (the Grote Markt), where other balloon meetings usually take off on open spaces outside the agglomerations. This is unique in the balloon world.
