Except if you make mistakes he can’t see you and correct as needed, resulting in the build of bad habits that could potentially be very hard to get rid of. I hope it’s not the case though
I find that vibrato is a huge differentiator. When people knock a guy for "mindless shredding", I often see that the player often has a terrible vibrato and their playing sounds hectic and chaotic because of that.
I am completely self taught and I find your videos and Ola England’s videos super helpful… I am not joining a band, but I like getting better, so I appreciate your content… so thank you! 😊

I was self taught for the first few years. When i started getting lessons i learned that a metronome is crucial for good technique atleast for me anyway. A metronome like forces me to learn good technique. I practiced sweep picking for like 6 months and hit a wall. Used a metronome and bam what a difference.
I'm going back to playing Blues and slow rock. Even recording your self playing guitar through a phone will help a lot with timing.. that’s what I do and I can really tell when I’m rushing or dragging
I remember when I first started being self taught and if I had to choose my favorite, I started doing it by accident when obsessively learning Elliott Smith songs. Later when I got more serious about my playing, I’ve always loved the neoclassical style and the phrase used was “secondary dominant”. When playing in a chord progression it’s using a major chord in a minor 3rd. A 5 v of 5.
As a self taught guitarist i just want to say, the journey has been frustrating but also an intense labor of love. I have had many mentalities on rhe instrument over the years, but the one that changed my life was thinking "i want to be able to make this instrument do what i want." While practicing.
Man, this past like...5 years or so, ive completely lost my passion for music. I am self-taught so i dont actually know all that much realistically, i dont find any new music that makes me want to pick up the guitar and try to learn it anymore, im always working and would rather spend my precious few hours of free time playing video games with my wife than practice guitar, or language, or anything i used to do. Life is just too draining and at 28, im no better than when i left highschool a decade ago..
Same here, do you play in a band? It does reignited me to get better and I can't wait to go home and play everyday when I'm working lol Sometimes had to keep myself from playing because I lost track of time.

I was you, except i quite often find music that i would want to learn to play. My issue is i severed the tendon to my pinky on my left hand, so my playing was so bad i quit. That was about 8 years ago. My solution belive it or not has been music theory. Playing fast is great, sure, but if im realistic with myself, i can no longer do that. How do i make up for it? I need to know my instrument. Inside and out. I cant play fast and technical, but i can play with soul and feeling. Maybe all you really need is a style change.

Self taught. If you do not count the 100 or more other guitar players I've jammed with. 90% I considered more advanced. I must be learning because everything you said made sense
Pro Tip: It's always better to play a little "laid back", even on super fast lines, because it's way easier to speed up than slowing down during a run.
I use your lessons on UA-cam for theory and practice. While it’s helped me improve it’s not where I want to be. 5the new course your offering is it compatible for use on an iPhone? I have no computer and use my phone for everything. I don’t want to order the course only to find out it’s incompatible with my phone. I do plan on getting a computer recording setup so I can record original material and lessons to practice but til then would this work?
only been playing about just over a year is there stuff on your patreon academy that could help me get better i don't want to be a shredder i love playing rhythm. cheers
too stupid for cubase or any daw to figure it out just by tutorials... Maybe because i dont like anything i need a mouse cursor for... God i feel old...
This is exactly the answer for those questions, “Am I too old to learn guitar?”. The answer is usually “Yes”because with age comes responsibility and working adults, with kids, have less free time to dedicate to their practice.
